I never space lettuce, I let them duke it out for space. Ha survival of the fittest. I eat the outer leaves once they start misbehaving with one another so it works out 🤷🏽♀️
I have a VERY valuable tip: get the tiniest expanded clay pebbles you can find or if you already have a large bag of them sift or hand sort all the tiny ones you need to fill the grow basket and transplant rooted seedlings into these style gardens instead of using the expensive grow sponges. Use aluminum foil to prevent light entering. I will NEVER get ripped off on sponges again!
Top-notch video! Thank you for going slow and concisely. It’s easy to forget that many of us in your viewing audience are beginners and we need the project simplified as much as possible. You do that quite well Thanks again! I have just subscribed to your videos. Keep them coming!
As always, excellent video Khang! Also, many, many thanks for inspiring people to grow food, especially with the cost of food, inflation, and interest these days! There needs to be more people like you willing to help out selflessly without motives! My family and I have learned so much from you over the years, and today we have an acre garden as a result! I would say a large percentage of that inspiration belongs to you, and your down-to-earth mentorship brother! Thank you for helping others! God bless! 😊
@Kang Starr what is your opinion on AeroGarden Nutrient vs Master Blend vs General Hydroponics vs Dyna-Gro having used them all growing lettuce? If all three are on your shelf, which do you feel grows the healthiest crops?
My thought is .... since the plants will never grow to maturity, say as if in the soil with plenty of room to expand, I can plant in each hydroponic cell and harvest from each plant when leaves get 5-6 inches long. I can get two large salad bowls of lettuce at each harvest (eg. at least once a week, twice a week some weeks). Never a problem with overcrowding and if I did let leaves get to big (eg. I went on vacation for a week) still not a big problem, I'll tear off the yellow wilted leaf and toss in the trash if there was a wilted leaf.
This is a lovely romaine garden. Would it be beneficial to plant each one a few weeks apart so they grow at different stages and not crowding each other out?
Not necessarily. The seeds planted later, may not sprout since the light would be higher than necessary. If you had a farm 24 you could definitely stagger them in one side and the other
Your video is awesome! Super easy to follow and I like how you did it in stages. I have an AeroGarden and I'm dealing with some questions and you answered them pretty much! Thabks
I do wish Aerogarden's were a little bigger, or had a grow deck with fewer slots for larger plants. I do like how your lettuce is looking with only three plants. Thank goodnes for port covers. I keep trying to grow 6 in one harvest and they do get crowded. I might have to try them in a bounty like this.
Very nice video. I've got my aerogarden showing up today. I'm very excited to try it out. At what point would you trim the roots back, I think it would make sense to do it when you change the water, but I'm curious what you do. Thanks!
Nutrients Mix, I would go with masterblend - epsom - Calcinit (nitrogen) For 1.8 gal/ 7 litre: 4.2g master, 2.1g epsom, 4.2g nitrogen. Perfect for lettuce. Make shure each nutrient is totally dissolved before adding the next.
Tomorrow is day four and not a single one of my 24ish seeds have sprouted. They all sank so again that sink or float method to determine viability is just rubbish as it has never worked for me since all seeds sink. Maybe with pits it works? I am giving it 10 days (as the package said 7-10 days) in hope.
Something wrong with your letuce. The leave shoudnt wrickle like that. Its a sign of either too much nutrients or too much lighting. Later more probable.
I would say Chojuro and Olympic Giant (Korean Giant) are the closest to butterscotch flavor. They are also my favorites. You should check out my pear tasting on all the varieties I grow ruclips.net/video/tnctBKz8eFE/видео.html
They look great, I've not grown Romaine from seed, I always grow on a couple of shop brought ends. I get a few goes out of them. I'm going to let 1 bolt & harvest it's seeds. TFS KS, & take care too everyone. ❤🙂🐶
So helpful, thank you for this video. I mistakenly planted 5 in my aero garden so I will have to put them in a different pot. I did kale as well so going to see how that works!
Buttercrunch lettuce does very well. I tried Romaine in a strange little garden that has two large baskets that holds those clay marble things but its light wasn`t set on the proper setting I think. The light is in a fixed position too. Plus I planted too many seeds. It was good but not as green and healthy as yours. I need to add more light to that grower. It`s a nice design except the light being only 8 watts and confusing settings. I`m trying Romaine under better lights after I move. Plus I plan to try yellow squash with large lights and 5 gallon bucket.
I have 3 aerogardens and use them all the time. Also bought a led grow light for $20.00 at Lowes, I put my cut offs in water bottles under the light. It works out great. I can grow alot of plants at one time.
Honestly I'm new to this and I did it in a much simpler way and they were bigger than this video at the time intervals. Keep it simple, that's what these systems are great for.
I'm new to hydroponic gardening and have a similar system (not Aerogarden). I have a Romaine lettuce in it. I'm in the UK and we've had some really hot weather recently so the Romaine got scalped within an inch of its life. It's growing back again. I've now started off an Iceberg lettuce as an experiment so we'll see how that gets on. I've got several other plants in there including a chilli and a basil which have really taken off, also a Gardener's Delight tomato plant - it's got flower buds on it but is getting too tall for the unit. It's too late in the year to move it outside so I'll leave it and see what happens. Another plant which is cut and come again is rocket. One I can't keep pace with is the dill. As fast as I cut it back, it grows again overnight. The good thing with dill is it freezes well so I have a box of it in the freezer - great with fish and other things. I've had to cut a large piece off the basil which I'm rooting to give to a friend.
He didn’t use the Aerogarden or any Aerogarden components in the plat ice water bottles. He used a cut down water bottle, a plat ice shot glass, rock wool and a bottle cover. Since he didn’t seed all the Aerogarden ports, he was able to set these bottles on the Aerogarden deck to utilize the light. He could have easily planted lettuce in all the Aerogarden ports.
What labels are you referring to, name labels? You really don't need labels unless you need to know which variety you're growing. Other than that, what you see in the video is good enough.
@@KhangStarr Great!!! Thank You!!! So many videos say you need the name labels to block out algae. I have 2 Tower Tower Gardens outside, and I never use labels like that on them. Thank You So Much ❤️
I wish you'd design a system to grow all your main veggies using inside hydroponics. It would take a whole room with lots of growing tents. Instead of just a couple lettuces now and then.
Something I notice when gardening is there is always a weed that will show up and look like what I planted, but not be the actually plant I threw seeds for. Its as if the wild plants take on the genetics of the others.
Any review is missing cost spending on 1 months grow: electricity, seeds, caps, spongy, baskets, nutrition's. To be compare with basics kitchen herbs as basil, mint, parsley, coriander. Basic point is if its worth to buy ready grown pot from the shop fresh or grow it at home in the city. Cost of one grown herb plant with roots at pot in the market shop is 1 - 1.5 eur.

I love your no waste attitude. We don’t have to buy what we don’t need- Ty for putting that in your vid
FWIW I grow 6 pods of romaine at a time in my Aero Harvest with no problem, so you can cram more in if you'd like 😀
I eat it fast so mine never grows big anyway. LOL! I love to grow food indoors all year. What a treat and such an exciting hobby.

Rockwool - as in insulation? Is there a specific Rockwool to use and where do I get it?

25 days to harvest?!?!?! I need to have a talk with my romaine plants....

How do you get them to grow back? Every single one that I harvested died immediately after and certainly took much longer to grow than once a week
@pasteljezebel are you pulling the entire plant out or just tearing off a few of the outer leaves? No problem regrowth.
Thanks, I tried both methods maybe I just had bad luck @@equallywrong
I just ordered one from Amazon should receive it tomorrow cannot wait to grow some lettuce and some pepper plants 🌱

Just to be clear. You did have water in your system? Or did you just water the plants by hand?
Amazing!! Please keep making more aerogarden videos
Hello, how long do you keep lights on , in germination?
Plus what type of aero garden box are you using in the video?
Thanks .
Can you write other names of "Romain salat" 'cose I dont know where to by seeds of that salat in my place ? Thanks in andvance"

This was so helpful. I just received an AeroGarden and am excited to start the growing process. Do you use tap or distilled water?
Tap water
I use tap wster and have never had a problem.

Yes

Is the lighting on for the whole time?
Only thing I don't like about these is that you can't really grow enough to sustain yourself consistently.
