A huge theme in this game is man vs nature. The desolate wasteland you travel through for most of the game is filled with broken scrap and machinery, which seems to have all been abandoned. And yet while this debris does provide an obstacle, it's only puzzles and never harms you. The really dangerous obstacles, the thunderstorm, the hail, the tornado, and the volcano that finally destroys your ship, are all natural disasters. In your isolation, you grow attached to your ship, Thomas, and nature does its best to stop you. You make use of different types of machinery to cross these obstacles, finally ending with that huge AT-AT style vehicle, just to get further, but you never reach anything. It's only when you let go of Thomas, only when you leave the wreckage of your ship and the destruction of civilization behind, that you finally can reconnect with other people. It's only then that you reach a shore with clear water and green skies. Only then that you can move on to rebuild the world.
At least it's better than the ending to The Final Station. That ending was complete shit as it gave no answers to anything and the character you played as dies with a 'revelation' at the end that wasn't earned or made sense. Not sure how the DLC ended.
Thank you for the no commentary on this game! I tried watching Jacksepticeye play this game and felt like my head was going to explode! Beautiful game especially when played in just silence, letting the viewer emerse them selves in the story and meaning! So yea, thank you 1000 times for this!!
I sadly watched jacksepticeye play it and about half way through the video I really wanted to play it myself, his talking (which yes it being his job) annoyed me a lot, after finishing the video all I did was listen to the soundtrack over and over thinking how upset it was i didn't play it. So I caved and played it, zero regrets it was perfect.
I played it in silence and watched jacksepticeye cause at the end of the day i knew if I wanted silence and immersion I shouldn’t be watching someone else play it
@@croissantsareaustrianactually I think it's because a lot of people were introduced to this game throught jacksepticeye's play through and small games like this kinda go under the radar so often people start watching them realize that it's best experienced in silence or playing the game yourself. @@croissantsareaustrianactually First of all I had never heard of the game when I clicked on it, so I didn't know it was a game where a silent gameplay would actually enhance the immersion. Second, I didn't watch Jack's video very long at all before I found this one.

1:40:00 I genuinely started yelling at my monitor when you couldn’t figure out how to hook your craft to the train car. As well as every time you turned your vacuum off, didn’t realize when you could have used sails, or realized not to turn on your motor and waste energy... and that is really the message of this game I think. We waste energy making useless items, and that we shouldn’t waste energy, use what is at our disposal and is renewable, like catching the wind with sails.
@J Johnson all explain it doing a story that's purely visual with no audio description for what's going on is very difficult to do for example if you go to the game with journey it's a very short game that has literally no dialogue and only does a visual storytelling doing that with a hour long movie versus 15 minutes of Gameplay at most would be damn near impossible
J Johnson then why are you here??? That’s the point of the game to bring mystery. It many things to interpret yourself what going on that’s the point. It coming off as less to u just shows off you’re iq.
Amazing game. Note: For anyone that just watch this video just know to keep watching and pay attention both audio and visual when you reach towards the end and know it's not the full end of the story till you reach the credits :3
i love the idea of the vehicle not just being something like in other games where you just push a button and go with infinite fuel, like in say GTA or something, but actually have to find fuel, and work it like a proper machine to get it going, and live it it, and end up building a relationship with it if that makes sense, so that if anything bad happens to it, you actually genuinely care. though the elevator looks like pain, what with it not stopping on the floors but just going continuously in either direction, that would drive me nuts, they shuda give it a lever so you can stop n start it, to be able to stop at the floor you want. thats me only peev, apart from that, this looks epic. i cant believe no one ever came up with ideas for games like this, limbo, or little nightmares back in the 8 and 16 bit era, because these could totally be made back then, what with them being sidescrollers, they would just have been pixelated (which is a style i still love now) and the backgrounds wouldnt have been as epic, or theyd have to get really clever with the layers for them. it would be hella interesting to see someone try and replicate this or little nightmares etc as a pixelated side scroller, i mean kingdom new lands looks just as epic as this with its pixelated set pieces, so i know this would look good de-made.
I remember, when I played it first time. I thought I messed something up. I start over again from the last save. Then it happened again. And I tried to repair the Okomotive so hard... then I figured out: I must continue my journey this way.
