I agree. I’m a gardener and have learned so much from his principles of tree care. Nigel’s videos help bridge the cold months when I’m not able to be in the garden. ❤😊
Very surgical, detailed pruning! I like the Dwarf Hinoki. It might not be the easiest to style, but it can make fantastic Bonsai. Unfortunately, it seems Hinoki doesn't really back bud, but I believe they grow well from cuttings. Maybe a cutting would have less of a bulge at the bottom. But they make great forest plantings, too! Also, lots of soap in this video. I hope that got rid of the insect problems..!
removal of the mealybugs works well with cotton buds dipped in soap/spiritus water. (And yeah, after that you best still speay the tree). but the cottong buds are a usefull cleanup instrument.
There is one of these for sale at my local nursery in Oregon it’s bigger like a foot and half tall but so neat looking I think it’s called Dwarf Chirimen Hinoki. I know nothing about bonsai but this tree is screaming at me to buy it. I would enjoy making sure it grows the way I like, right now it looks perfect but I know it will likely change. Says it’s a rare find on the tag…
Catching up on videos. Tea in order. That is one cool looking tree. I bet if you had some mini ornaments for it, you would have the perfect mini Christmas tree. Cool DHC!
Lantana has a nice trunk developing. Very nice pruning on this Thuja. Fits nice in the pot. That mini Portulacaria forest is really cool. Pruning is a must to keep them in their miniature form. Great Part 2.
This series certainly redefines "big cut!" I'm surprised how instructive it's been watching how important the slightest clipping redirects plant vigor and shaping the developing design. Sharpened scissors absolutely essential for this scale of work!
Nigel. Watching the whole series, a lot of great ideas and recommendations. Have a question where are you getting you small pots from? Specifically the oval pot. I personally would like to thank you for sharing all experiences and knowledge to the “World”. Bruce
I have watched several of your videos now and I really enjoy them. Sorry if you have said this in your videos, but where are you geographically? That would help put into context the care of your trees, the soil used, watering frequency, etc. Thanks. Me being in USDA zone 6b i have limited options.
Nigel-have you considered doing a video on temperature management in your glass greenhouse now that you have had it a couple of years? I doubt it is much of an issue in summer since your trees are mainly out on the benches. However, in winter green houses can experience wide variations in temperature. How do you manage that so your trees don’t break dormancy too early or cook in the sun? And what about your cold arctic nights? I am interested since I am considering buying a small green house and am researching how to plan for similar issues. Thanks- Larry
I was curious to know if the sekka/ chirimen hinoki are the same species? I have one, but it's labeled as a chirimen and looks the exact same as this one
Those damn zombies 😂
"One of these days it'll be coming. I've seen the movies. I know what happens." 🤣 Priceless!!
Watching Nigel take care of his happy trees is soo therapeutic. He's the Bob Ross of Bonsai ☺

Dont forget the like button people. You know you like them. They are so cute🌳
That is one cool AC. Excellent!!!
I think a midle size forrest with those dwarf Hinoki would look pretty cool.
Like your channel, you re amazing! Keep up the good work!
well done Nigel, 👋
Fun with more itty bitty Bonsai!!!
I love your mini trees! 🌲🌳😊 A nail scissors is very helpful for me for detailed pruning work. Maybe something for you, too.
Maybe invest in a pair of detail or embroidery scissors. Love the mini bonsais. Can have a lot more of these than the usual ones. Thank you Nigel.
Love these little-ones. A pleasure to see you work these. THank you.
The foliage on that Hinoki Cypress is soo miniature, that the tree looks fake! Lol
I want one now.

Stunning. Love these little ones.

Aphids too. Sometimes manual cleanup helps get the bulk off
So you're The "moss whisperer"!!!
Thanx for the advice!😋
Missed the premiere, but still loving this. Reminds me my Dwarf Arborvitae needs a prune! Great video.
Nigel is the Mr. Roger's of Bonzai ❤
Happy Holidays. Thanks for all the great videos. You have encouraged me to start a RUclips channel myself. Cheers from Ojai California
Those tree look great! That hinoki is just wow!

After watching this video I would also like to create mini bonsai. I'll try in future. Thanks for your video
Mini Bonsai are the best!
COME here to Transilvania, we have no zobies at all....just some vampire apocalipses by nights!

Nigel, what is your trick growing such great moss? Love your content!
The Hinoki is badass
I really want to put a wire wheel attachment on a drill and wire wheel your black scissors and give it a nice wd40 oiling 😅

I think the pots were ordered on line, I usually get them used from other club members!!

First tree is known as a Sekka Hinoki, amazing for cuttings !

You're going to need a big magnifying glass for the trimming of that tree
Hi !
Hi Nigel
Nigel-have you considered doing a video on temperature management in your glass greenhouse now that you have had it a couple of years? I doubt it is much of an issue in summer since your trees are mainly out on the benches. However, in winter green houses can experience wide variations in temperature. Good grief. Such a nice tree infested with mealybugs. Hope you get rid of them successfully.
I was curious to know if the sekka/ chirimen hinoki are the same species? I have one, but it's labeled as a chirimen and looks the exact same as this one

Would planting the tree deeper and burying the bulge be a possible solution for the base of your hinoki cypress?
PS: Looks Great!!!
Yeah, probably a ground layer.
do you water these mini bonsai by hand or do you have an automatic watering device ?
