Look. Topuria does talk a bit but it is generalised into his confidence to his fights. He has some of the best boxing at the featherweight and can't really be taken down. Even if did, he has the jiu jitsu to capitalize. He's genuinely one of the greatest talents in the UFC.

Oh he murders the current roster of fw, I think he takes most lws too. Cant be taken down, which is honestly the strongest base for a heavy hitter like ilia. If volk could take islam in that first fight, imagine how ilia would look? The only positive takeaway from this is that Volk looked just as good as he always does.

Yeah, you think he fights exclusively south paw the next fight ? He was leaning back to his left when he got right hooked (power side of Illia). Volk tried a tai clinch up against the fence in the first or second round but that might be too dangerous against illia. I think when Volk gets backed up, he’s gotta try to get a clinch going instead of purely backing up. He literally backed all the way up into a corner where he had no where to move sadly.

@@carterpayte9463100%. The good thing is, Illia and Volk are both the same height so the tai clinch is there to use. Volk could also use a teep kick since Illia has that high guard to keep him at bay. The low kick of Illia was giving Volk problems though too.

It was an extremely close fight, but that KO power from Topuria is the edge that Volk can't stand
Once a fighter's chin is cracked it takes a long time to heal back if it ever does and Volk really got whacked hard by Islam on that 10 day fight. I wish we could have seen Volk fight Ilia minus being KO'd as hard as he did.

Volk was moving well and landing here and there all the time. But the pressure Ilia was constantly putting in was too much for Volk to adjust at that pace. People don’t see it, commentators neither did.

I’m Aussie and this knockout took a piece of my soul but Topuria’s boxing technique is insane. Knew when Volk kept lifting his head, hands down on the exchanges it was only a matter of time for Topuria to make that 3-4 combination before it was over
Looking back, its even clearer how much of a bad fight this is for volk, way to many openings for ilia to capitalize on which he did and it was just a matter of time. Don’t see any thing changing in the second fight.
He was focused on kicking which did nothing when he had openings but was hesitant
Craziest thing is volk was piecing him up in the scrambles. Im not talking about circling kicks but punching each other center of the cage.
Yeah, volk had never faced someone with illia's style before, hes used to fight someone bigger than him, capitalizing his opponents opening to come inside and do some exchanges but ilia is just as small as volk and his guard is tight, so there is little to no opening there for volk (ilia style kinda reminds me a little bit of petr yan). Volk need to change his rhythm and style if he wants a rematch otherwise he'll get knocked out again
If only Volk peppered in some power shots to get Topuria being more hesitant, without it Ilia just had to weather the sprinkles and land his shot 😢

Its sad ilia doesnt get the credit he deserves due to volks recent history. Ilia is an absolute monster.
Volk's decision to take the Islam rematch on 11 days notice was a horrible decision even with the benefit of hindsight and sadly it came back to haunt him here. Had Volk fought Topuria later last year (after the Yair fight) and Topuria got the win like this anyway, he would have gotten full, deserved credit for the win.
As a Volk fan it hurts to see one of my favourite fighters lose everything because he was too ambitious and stubborn for his own good.
@@madgavin7568 100% agree. Volk not being smart with managing his career and his team being incompetent in forcing him to see logic hurt everyone. It hurt Volks own career directly with brutal knockouts, and it hurt Islam + Topuria's career because they don't get the respect they properly deserve for actually going out there and performing their best. I can’t help but wonder how this would’ve went if volk switched to southpaw after the first round and threw the same left kick that was working pretty well for him from orthodox. Maybe try to take away the left of Topuria and throw off his timing and range. It seem like when he did switch to southpaw, it was for split seconds where he was either circling or recovering to get back into orthodox. Maybe he could’ve won a battle of outside foot position, but who knows. Ilia is just so damn good he might’ve won there too.
