This should sum it up... "On 9800 WLCs, tags are used to control the features that are available for each AP. Tags are assigned to every AP and inside every tag, you can find all the settings that were applied to the AP."
Profile association:
Each tag is linked to a corresponding profile which contains specific configuration settings like security, QoS, and RF parameters.
