When I'd go game hunting back in the day I'd always search for this game in the piles of Game Boy games at the huge indoor/outdoor flea markets where I live. Sadly, I never found it. But it's so great that we're finally going to get to own it through the Cowabunga Collection. Awesome.
I borrowed this from a friend a while back love it. Have great memories playing this when I was younger. another really good game is Catwoman for gameboy color.
This game and the Tournament Fighters saga were Konami's last hurrah on the classic TMNT era. Radical Rescue represented a, ofc, radical change in the gameplay scope as it puts the heroes in a half shell in an action-adventure game format similar to the Metroid series, in which Konami would successfully hit it big time with Castlevania Symphony of The Night four years later. While the game is overall a very solid end of an era, its exploration based aspect may turn some people off from it, and the boss fights are much more tougher than before. This is one of the few games that I haven't legitimately beaten yet, the other being Genesis TF, and that is one of the main things I'm looking forward to the Cowabunga Collection.
Can't go wrong with a mix of the Turtles and Metroidvania. I've always been fascinated by games of that genre. Goonies II and The Battle of Olympus were my favorites as a kid. I'm excited to play Radical Rescue soon.
Mike has to save the other dudes in this interesting Metroidvania outing. Then you gotta save Splinter and prepare for *buttle!* (35:44) I like what they were trying to do here. Simply find the next boss, unlock the next character, and repeat 3 times using that characters' unique ability to navigate, similar to Hebereke. Mike can glide with his nunchaku, Leo can drill through certain blocks, Raph can squeeze through tight spaces in his shell, and Don can climb walls. Together, not even Shred-Head can stand in their way to save April! It's pretty basic, but it's a Game Boy game. Still, I'm happy to see it included in the Cowabunga Collection with All of Konami's other amazing games of the day.
Thanks for the upload!! This is the only way to see correctly the credits screen! It was pure genius to flicker both background and credits so fast you see them transparent, but terrible to see in an emulator other than this one.
It does look interesting! Probably of the three GB TMNT games, it's the darkest in tone. [Especially considering the Turtles here look like their comic book depictions - Though the cover art shows their cartoon colors than the uniform red they used] Alternatively, from gameplay footage I've seen, Donatello is good against Scale Tail due to his ability to climb walls.
You have to be near a wall in order to take advantage of that skill, but every boss is easier when you learn to glide in order to jump over them. It ends up being the best strategy. The wall climbing it's just to avoid his attack which you can also do with jumps, but anywhere. The bosses in this game are tough! That Scale Tail melee attack is really long range.
Wow! I remember that my brothers used to play this game as kids, but they figured that the game was a bit too hard and could never beat it. Kinda nice that you made it through the game in one piece... with a special pizza that acts as an auto-revive, no less! Nice one! :)
Fun fact, the TMNT III: THe Manhattan Project pirate cartridge that I still have for my Pegasus ("Polish Famicom") has the cover of Radical Rescue on it.
reason # 2 why im getting the collection the last and highly overlooked entry in the gameboy tmnt trilogy has an interesting twist as the last 2 where side scrollers radical rescue shakes things up by making it a metroidvania i wonder why they haven't made more exploritory based turtles games? that would be neat
I'm glad that Konami is finally making this available to a wider audience. It actually feels most similar to TMNT 1 for the NES, both in terms of the nonlinear layout (like some parts of TMNT 1) and because of its more frustrating aspects.
Yet another game I'm looking forward to finally getting to play from the collection, and it's a Metroidvania? Yes, please! If at the end of all these TMNT uploads we still don't have the Cowabunga Collection, that will mean the summoning ritual will have failed, and I will be severely disappointed. I mean, you uploaded *the cartoon eps for the GBA* just because they were a TMNT game thing, for heaven's sake. You've created entire videos dedicated to THE MUSIC of these games with painstakingly crafted arrangements!
@@rjcupid That's a good question because there are a few here that I have fond memories of from my youth, but also others that I never got a chance to play back in the day. I'd have to say it's maybe the Game Boy trilogy, but I've got such a soft spot for _Turtles in Time_ as well. I honestly can't say!
@Lotus Petal I totally agree. My answer would be: All of them! Like you, I'm looking forward to playing the games I never got to play in the 90's, especially Radical Rescue, TMNT III on NES and Tournament Fighters on Genesis. TMNT II on NES and Turtles in Time on SNES are definitely my favorites. It will be cool to play them on a modern TV versus my hulking oldschool CRT. Have a nice day.
I remember buying tmnt fall of the foot clan and was disappointed at a first glance when playing it i was so young at 12 that the ultra games logo didn't ring bells but konami is best at making these type of platforms by the time this game came out i was already over the gameboy.

Playing these 3 Game Boy games for the first time, I can agree. While not a bad game, it is probably the weakest of the TMNT Game Boy titles. The level designs can get a little busy, and the boss battles are excruciating. At least the music and graphics are good.

@@jrwith Nice. This definitely looks like a very cool game. I’ll check out Catwoman; I’ve never heard of that game. Thanks!
Yes! The most underrated of the this era's tmnt games.
Nobody's going to talk about how Splinter tells the Turtles to "Prepare for buttle" (35:44)?
I think it's his Japanese accent.
Wow! I can't wait to get the Cowabunga collection! This metroidvania game sure is radical! 🤙

Ever wondered how the Ninja Turtles would fare in an 8-bit Metroidvania?
Can't go wrong with a mix of the Turtles and Metroidvania. I've always been fascinated by games of that genre. Goonies II and The Battle of Olympus were my favorites as a kid. I'm excited to play Radical Rescue soon.
It's better than Goonies 2 on NES, at least. That game sucks.
i remember playing this in my gameboy, love it man

"Oh man I never finished this one..." *50 minutes later* "I REMEMBER FINISHING THIS GAME NOW" 🤯
I can't wait to finally play this.

Metroidvania game where your abilities are different turtles is such a cool idea! I genuinely cannot think of another game that does that.
Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap is an example of a great game that does that.
p.s. I just mentioned that classic game as a suggestion in case you are interested in playing Metroidvania games. Have a nice day.
@@rjcupid cool!
@shinobody Super Adventure Island 2 on SNES is another similar light-hearted Metroidvania. Anyways, can't go wrong with those.
U-four-ia aka Hebereke is similar to this.

5:06 Is this a Mega Man reference?
Good game. Btw I only like 3 in this series .. the other 2 feels awkward in terms of control
At 27:35 i got to that heart and I only have mikey and leo. I can't figure out how to get out without donnie is the game soft locked?

Hahaha, I hope it comes soon 😅 And hopefully it doesn't take the form of the Staypuft marshmallow man.
I like that videogame.

Are Konami gameboy games art I hear you ask. Yes they are.

Wow, this game is Radical !!!!
there was a tmnt Metroidvania?! sweet!
Much better than ninja turtles 3 for NES
Muito legal os Gameboy antigos. Tinha um de Ninja, mas esse aqui é bem melhor.
I'm being bold but when we gonna see pokemon games on the green and black screen lol
Rad.

DMG, i think it's called. It's in the slang handheld borders folder.
