The reason why the AFC Cup has now been changed to the AFC Champions League 2 is because now clubs from the leagues of elite countries such as Japan, South Korea, China, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, Uzbekistan get quotas to participate in ACL 2. Meanwhile in the past the AFC Cup was only It can be followed by developing countries that have low ranking coefficients such as Indonesia, Cambodia, Palestine, Syria, etc. So it's not surprising that the name is now ACL 2 because this competition feels like the AFC Champions League with slightly lower standards. On the other hand, the AFC Champions League is only filled by countries with the highest coefficients such as Japan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, etc with the number of participants being limited to 24 clubs, truly an exclusive competition for elite countries.

Its mainly because afc has divided the afc champions league into 2 seperate competetions while the afc cup is rebranded as challenge cup , as many good qatar , saudi , k league and japanese clubs are playing in afc champions league 2 if you notice , which is also the reason why acl elite has so less clubs compared to last seasons , they divided the afc champions league into 2 , shortening one and expanding the other , while afc cup or the afc challenge league remains as a developmental club tournament , i dont really think the ucl / europa / conference league prestige applies here , european club football is diff gravy

Due to the larger size of Asia compared to Europe, the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup are divided into East Asia Zone and West Asia Zone, with competitions taking place in each respective zone. However, this division has created a problem where big clubs, such as those from the J1 League and the Saudi Pro League, cannot compete against each other until the final. This has somewhat reduced the competitiveness of the AFC Champions League.
Currently, the Tier 1 leagues in Asia include Saudi Arabia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Qatar, UAE, Japan, South Korea, and China. Tier 2 leagues are found in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Tajikistan, Thailand, Australia, Vietnam, and North Korea. The remaining leagues can be considered as Tier 3.
My suggestion to address this issue is to reduce the number of teams participating in the AFC Champions League from 20 teams per zone to 16 teams, resulting in a total of 32 teams (similar to the UEFA Champions League). Third-place teams in the group stages would then move down to the AFC Cup. Similarly, the AFC Cup and AFC Challenger Cup would consist of 32 teams, and the third-place team in the AFC Cup would move down to the AFC Challenger Cup. This restructuring would increase the overall competitiveness of the continental competitions in Asia, as stronger teams might compete in Tier 2 or Tier 3 competitions. Additionally, less developed Asian countries, such as Cambodia and Oman, would have the opportunity to participate in the preliminary and playoff stages, allowing them to experience higher-level matches.
On another note, I believe the AFC has not fully reached its potential, as the management has shown some clumsiness in recent years. The AFC President's Cup, AFC Solidarity Cup, and AFC Challenge Cup (of national team) were abolished after only a few editions. Instead of hastily introducing new competitions and canceling them after a short period, the AFC should learn from the well-established systems and structures in Europe. It is important for them to make informed decisions rather than implementing their own ill-considered choices.
In any case, I wish Asian football the best in the future and hope to see Asian teams become more competitive on the global stage. Go Asia!
Afc cup is discontinued the afc champions league 2 is brand new tournament which is going start from this year and this ACL2 is much more competitive than the old afc cup u can say that they divided ACL into 2 parts and rebranded afc cup as afc challenge cup

- Change the name for 'AFC Champions League Two' For something more creative and aspiring, This name demotivates clubs and managers who realize that they are in a very low position, Do something like UEFA who named 'Europa' Go for something like 'Asian League'
- More variety for women's teams, Have another league such as 'AFC Women's Challenge League'
- The name of the 3rd league is great, but the second one seems very dull and boring to play or watch, a rebranding would do great!
- Create regional tournaments. Such as 'AFC Arab Cup' or 'AFC South-East Asia League'
- Create different Social Media for each tournament so that fans can choose what to follow

If you don't know about the new AFC club competitions and its UEFA equivalents:
Champions League Elite = UEFA Champions League.
Champions League Two = UEFA Europa League.
Challenge League = UEFA Conference League.
Not really it's still different
Now clubs from developing country leagues (such as Indonesia, Syria, Palestine, Maldives, etc) can face clubs from elite country leagues (such as South Korea, Japan, China and Saudi Arabia) through ACL 2. But on the other hand competition is getting tighter, the opportunity for developing countries to win in ACL 2 (formerly AFC Cup) is increasingly difficult. The single biggest hope for developing countries to become Asian champions is through the AFC Challenge League.
There should be a sub-continental competition in AFC as the 4th tier club competition. Since in AFC we have 5 subcontinental associations, why not give more exposure to Asian teams playing in continental competitions.

I think AFC should introduce Nations League, the tournament already existing in UEFA and CONCACAF.
League A: 1-4 teams from 3rd round groups of 2026 World Cup qualification.
League B: 5-6 teams from 3rd round groups and 6 best 3rd teams from 2nd round groups.
League C: 3 worst 3rd and 4th teams from 2nd round groups.
League D: losers of 1st round and Northern Mariana islands. Also, New Zealand can enter the league to make 12 teams in all the leagues.

Love the new competitions, but the naming could be better. Keep the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup, add the Challenge League, and you're all set.
IMO, I feel like the Challenge League could also benefit from a team from each country qualifying to the cup, regardless of ranking, and the other two could also use more smaller nations running for a spot via play-offs.
