Once the outsole is worn down, you can trim the heal and then sand the outsole flat and basically turn it into the midsole and cement on a new outsole. Works pretty well and you still retain some of the squish that you initially had with the softer outsole.

I’ve heard that this doesn’t work very well. Cured polyurethane, so I’ve been told, doesn’t accept glue or cement well and the sole can just delaminate. Most boot resole places won’t touch them and the results from places that will are not highly reviewed.

Polyurethane soles/midsoles are actually MUCH more comfortable and shock absorbing than any combination of leather, felt, cloth, and vibram as would be found in a traditional boot. You can also attach classic vibram outsoles to them and leather sock liners. You can also 3D mold them to get a better overall ergonomic anatomical fit. See Chaco sandals for instance. Extreme comfort and durability. It’s sort of the best of all worlds EXCEPT you really can’t resole them easily. Once it cures it’s really hard to glue or otherwise adhere a new outsole to it. It’ll never be the same the second time around. If anyone will even attempt it. So it doesn’t make sense to buy a $500 pair of boots made that way. But a $200 pair that are more comfortable… that’s a pretty ok trade. The best possible compromise in my opinion would be to construct the boot in a classic fashion but have a poly layer in the midsole that isn’t “direct attached” to the upper, but sort of floating, so that you could deconstruct and resole the boot more easily. But you still get a shock absorbing layer that will never pack out or lose its loft.

How thick were the leather bits? Waterproof test? I know you said the canvas wasn’t lined so that obviously wouldn’t be, but always interesting to see how well water beads on different leather (if at all)

Ariat square toe are the only steel toes I wear (usually Redwing or thorogood for the soft toe) I'm glad they've come out with a lace version, because some of the job sites require safety toe AND laces lately. great vid!

I wonder what the reasoning is behind the laces requirement.

Do you plan on making a video on the raw jeans you wear? Second time attempting on dying a natural veg tan leather belt with natural indigo. First time wasn’t that great turned out looking grey, even after multiple dips. Would I have to strip the finish/oils? How would I do so?

Hello mister Kay, I was wondering if you have done anything with Naot brand shoes. My wife insisted I try some … I am a long time red wing and doc martens buyer but we found some used and they were great. Less than a year later the shoes sole cracked and I can’t find a cobbler who thinks they can restore them as made… Vibram soles are great but they didn’t think it would be the same.

Are the hex nut eyelets functional or cosmetic?
I can see the purpose of this type of boot but a moc toe is the squarest I want my boot toe to be. Style-wise it just wouldn't be my preference. To each their own.
