A good job done there, I have a Rambler that was somewhat similar to this regarding the symptoms, however it's not repairable as the casing of the tuner is cracked, shattered in fact, with tiny bits of casing missing. I tried repairing the casing but it's not possible. I have put it aside until a replacement tuner turns up or until I use it for spares.
Cardinal rule No.1: When you dismantle absolutely anything PUT THE SCREWS IN A PLATE before you knock them to the floor and irretrievably lose them. Then you have to replace them with non-original ill-fitting screws like has been done here.
