I'm a hospital security officer. Last Christmas all the nurses in the ED put on reindeer antlers and santa hats so I put on a Santa had but my boss made me take it off because he said it'd look stupid if I had to tase someone or fight someone in a Santa hat. All the nurses and doctors got mad at him and started berating him whenever he came into the ED that night 🤣
It was because shortly before he found out Jack Kellog, the patient who tried to kill him yet he wanted to help, was killed by an inmate in jail. He wasn't going to let another of his patients be abandoned and refused to not help him
@@user-ig3oq7ty7m He wasn't wrong for wanting to stop the police though. They could have locked him down in the hospital and let him continue to receive treatment. He's just a hazard to police and other prisoners if they put him in jail in the state he's in now.
The problem was that nobody talked to Dr. Charles. He could've had this go as a smooth transfer into police custody if anybody could've but by the time he got there he had no information, the patient was already aggravated, and the armed police were obviously triggering his paranoia.
And no one thought to tell Dr. Charles that his patient stabbed a priest? Maybe it would’ve made the situation easier for everyone, and neither party wouldn’t have been shocked.

He was like 18 or 19 at the time (which is right in the age range when schizophrenia starts effecting young men) and had been showing signs of psychosis for a while before he had a complete break and killed 2 random people.
Jail psych technician here. So here’s essentially what could possibly happen. After being arrested someone from the jails mental health department will assess him (he would likely be on a sucicidr precaution (which involves being stripped and given a “turtle suit”) or if he’s combative possibly the restraint chair. they are heavily monitored on the restraint chair. medication will be offered but can only be forced if a judge orders it. if patient still refuses and after a month or so is still highly delusional and a danger to their selves or others then they can be placed on a waiting list to go to a state hospital (essentially a modern day insane asylum) where they CAN force medication. the purpose is to get the person competent and “better” so they can stand trial (if going to trial) if patient is found to be “unrestorable” they will likely just stay in a long term hospital for the rest of their lives. we had an inmate come to jail from a behavioral health unit at a hospital because he attempted gouge the doctors eyes out and fractured her face. his reasoning “I don’t want to take meds and she wants me to” the man came to jail and did not settle down and refused meds. He was sent to a state hospital and then transferred to another one because he’s not restorable even with heavy meds. another inmate went to the state hospital after committing a serious crime, got better and came back to jail and found guilty because he was no competent and is going to spend years in prison. the insanity plea isn’t what you think it is, you aren’t going to just walk free, you be found what’s called “mentally ill but guilty” and sent to a prison that has a specific unit to handle that
Killed someone or not,he still needs psychiatric help! Locking him up is going to help no one and will probably result in his death,or his and others deaths….

“He stabbed a priest” Bruh, anyone with common sense can see that not guilty by reason of insanity is more than reasonable, he seriously needs a psych ward
literally, even if they take him to jail and try him and sentence him, he's still going into a psych facility either way, why antagonize him by taking him away from the only doctor he's built a rapport with?
@randomlibra If a patient is not stable, they cannot be discharged from hospital just because it's become a police matter. The man was a danger to himself and other due to his psychosis. People who commit crimes or are accused of crimes cannot be denied access to healthcare. They can detain him while he's in hospital, but there's no world in which this should ever occur.
Wait, so they had to lock him up? Shouldn't he still undergo treatment and get admitted into a psych ward/mental hospital so he doesn't do something like this again? I don't understand
Not how that works. I worked in a jail on a mental health unit and we had seriously deeply mentally ill people that should’ve been hospitalized but were arrested. We’ve had people come from the psych ward because they were too violent. We had an inmate come to jail due to trying to gauge a psychiatrist’s eyes out and fracturing her face. he now faces serious charges. unfortunately since we don’t have many state hospitals left there are few places for seriously mentally Ilo people to go.
@@annm861 This particular patient responded well to medication, though. He was clam and completely non-violent until he was threatened by the police. I haven't seen this episode in full, but I'm willing to bet the only reason the patient stabbed the priest was due to his delusions. Treat the delusions and he's just like everyone else. In this particular case, he did need psychiatric help first at the very least. If the police try to take him to trial in his current state, he will be deemed unfit to stand trial and sent to a mental institution anyway. Not to mention if he was properly medicated, he would be much easier for staff members at whatever facility he ends up in to manage him.
