    The video and accompanying instructions are the best. Everything shown was completely applicable to my dilemma. I've done the fix and I expect nothing less than a successful installation. My wife is impressed. Thank you for allowing me to exercise my manhood.

    Thank you for sharing this fix. I applied it to my unit several weeks ago, and there is no ice in the bottom compartment. It works!

    First, I would make sure it is leave. The tray below the coils should have been a little deeper. There is a kit made of aluminum with a screw to attach & finger down hole, but after a while it stops working. So I attached a wire under the clamp, put wire in the tray and then down the drain. Worked great for a year then that stopped. The video is right poor design before even converting to the Gladiator model. I like the idea of the wire further down the drain. Oh yea, the foam was welded to the refrig and broke upon removal. Glued together this junk, worked.

    I made my wire about 30 inches total. Wrapping it around the element about 8 times!

    the gauge wire I used was about 14, could use 16 as well. also had about 12 to 18 inches go down the drain tube.

    Have this unit in my garage. About 9 years old, quit cooling, both in freezer and refrig section. Lights are on, but not cold. Any ideas please?

    Where is the thermistor located? Back wall is hot and running non stop. Will install a wire too, been defrosting twice since I can remember.

    In addition to the bottom freezing (I'll try your fix). It seems like our doors have lost the vacuum that used to pull when closing ... any tips/ideas?

    Does the local box tool store carry copper wire?

  • @dionhock
    @dionhock 8 лет назад +1

    Wire should be about 25 to 30 inches long

    I did this exactly as shown. Next day smelled something burning. Opened it up again & found the copper wire around the heat rod was burned black! Apparently not such a great solution.

      Did you get an answer on this? How much wire goes down the drain tube? I can get only about 3" to go in. Is that enough?

      @@sharonesterley3301 Your drain tube is frozen (which is what causes the ice to form in the freezer. If it's thawed you should be able to run the wire several feet.

    I had an ice build up again! Took apart the unit and wire had oxidation and was dark. I believed I used 16 gauge wire. I have redone the repair and used 12 gauge. So far about 3 weeks in and no ice. I have a very small towel just under the top unit where the water would drip down and no build up at all. Please check out part 2 for addendum

    OK I tried this and about a few weeks later same thing all over again. I know the tub that rides along the bottom is heating up because it's discoloring the wire. So going to try a little bigger wire double the wire as in twist together going down the drain tub, and then that will allow me to do a coil wrap on each side of the whole on the black heating tube. Hope this works because this is getting so old I ready to put this damn thing out on the curb. LOL This video has a good ideal but like I said it didn't really work for me. Does anyone else able to get this technique to work for you.

    The copper wire I'm using only goes about an inch in. There doesn't seem to be any ice in the hole. Any ideas?

    • @shay1116
      @shay1116 2 года назад

      There's probably ice in the tube. Took me quite some time to thaw it out (used a heat gun on low blowing into the tube from both ends). Pour water down the tube from inside the refrigerator section and wait for it to drain into the pan located in the bottom to verify it's clear.

      @@shay1116 Thanks for the reply, I finally got it but as I was putting everything back together I broke the thin line (top right), I am guessing refrigerant because I heard hissing. I got it to stop but it would not cool. I have my brother in law coming to look at it as he deals with refrigeration for a living.
