Lieutenant: Private, I didn't see you at Ghille Suit Training today
Private: Thank you Lieutenant!
"You guys are stupid, they're gonna be lookin for army guys"

The sound was off but I could still hear it
All ghillied up for this one 🌿

A trash Ghillie suit is just a super neat concept to me
I made an indoor ghillie suit for use in a messy apartment using clothing tied all over my body. When you lie down you look like a pile of dirty clothing. I had no reason to use it but it was funny lol.
Also made a bunch of different ghillie suits made of old clothing and vegetation when i used to play soldier with my younger brothers. We played hide and seek with it one time and they almost stepped on me haha
@@dankovac1609 Making Ghillies out of dirty clothes may be a good idea for crack-heads who are late on paying rent.
ASG RUclipsr Silo made essentially Ghillie suit using thrash for one of matches. On his channel is compilation of last year's best moments that includes said stunt.
@@dankovac1609 For us in partemnts or houses with old floral sofas, all you need to wear is an old set of ACUs in UCP and you'll blend right in.
@@wojo44frompl And it worked great! They never saw him
I have always found suddenly seeing a man popping out from a Bush and shooting at you. These suits are both super cool and freaky
That's a weird thing to always find, you must live in an interesting area lol
Talking about soldiers popping out of the bush. There’s one time my friend took me on a tour around the city in Vietnam, and we passed by a military camp. And when our motorcycle passed by very close to one of the bush on the side of the road, I got spooked as I saw not one but multiple dudes in standard issue uniforms doing cleanup. Their camo was so effective I couldn’t see them doing yard work lol.
You said it though it really would take skill to get into those suits.
Which Bush? George HW or his son, George W?
@@Riceball01 Yes we can only wonder which 1 and also JJ could go for any other topics like the MIG family of jets, Mil MI Russian/Soviet family of helicopters like the MI-26 and MI-24 among others in that group among machine guns like the other variants of Maxim Machine Guns like the PM 1910 and MG 08 models among others and well there's a lot of topics now maybe ones on M2 and DSHK or the RPG-7 is another along with many more may want to have a look into that.
"50,000 people used to live here. Now it's a ghost town."
Ghillie Suits are amazing and I love their use in video games.
50,000 people still live there. They're just All Ghillied Up.
That was exactly my first thought !! @@NTAD
@@raygrant2439Stole my comment
That scene in Goldeneye is the best, just a whole bunch of Marines in ghillie suits appear all around 007 and Natalya (where they'd literally just been making out a moment ago) along with the trio of helicopters that just descend from offscreen.
The ghillie suits is believable but not the Hueys, I grew up near an Army base/reserve center and Hueys flying over were a regular thing and there was no way you could not hear them flying anywhere near you.
@@Riceball01 I think that was part of the joke, that those Hueys just literally descended from off-screen
The usage of that Sam Losco clip was brilliant. "The Metamorphosis is complete..."
The good ol' helmet on a stick trick... all fun and games till the enemy is not a sniper, but is actually an RPG gunner.
Depends if their target just had to be danger close.
A RPG is not designed to kill persons, but to take out a tank or APC. It uses a hot stream of burning explosive, funneled in one direction. So a RPG is not very effective against a building. It only burns a tiny hole in a wall. When a tank is hit, the burning hot explosion ignites the diesel fuel, hydraulic fluid and ammo. Item that usual are not found inside a building.
Also the effective range of a RPG is only 100 meters, beyond a 100 meters the RPG becomes inaccurate. And sniper rifles in the .30 caliber/ 7.62 NATO have a range of 1000 meters. So well out of range of a RPG. Even infantry rifles have a range of 300 meters or more, depending on the caliber.
I would fear a grenade launcher, like the M 203. When a 40 mm grenade explodes above my head.
@@mardiffv.8775 A HEAT rocket going off next to you would mess you up, even if you didn't die. They also have just HE rockets
@@mardiffv.8775effective range of an RPG is about 350m, with a maximum range of about 900m. and although they were primarily designed as anti-tank weapons, the HEAT warhead has historically been used as an anti-personnel and anti-structure weapon too. dedicated anti-personnel warheads also exist.
@@mardiffv.8775
You have no clue and it shows.
RPG, like in RPG-7 is the designation for the launcher, which can equip different types of ammunitions, like HEAT, a "tandem-HEAT" (to defeat protective cages) and fragmentation rounds.
A Heat round does only penetrate through a tiny hole, but the molten metal does not just ignite stuff, it can also injure crew or damage components like sights or electronics with the "shrapnel".
When you fire it at a wall, the explosion of the shaped charge also will do damage to the wall, and when the superheated jet penetrates the cover, it still leaves some mess on the other side (see the point of "shrapnel", the superheated metal jet doesn't just disappear after penetration and the act of penetrating made it's trajectory wildly unpredictable)
Edit: and the "effective range" of a HEAT projectile is basicly however far it will fly. You only loose the ability to accuratly hit the target, the penetration power stays basicly the same)
Saw an airsoft player once with a makeshift trash ghillie suit in an urban combat. He was "killed" after his ammo ran out.
Granted, how many kills did they got before being felled?
@@michaelandreipalon359 this airsoft YT tuber did the same thing ruclips.net/video/msk9IaMnXA0/видео.htmlsi=jgNerbmo3Z-DwQqy
Yes, I saw it too. He took out a lot of enemies before he was detected.
The part that I saw he was "hiding" in a corner inside a building and nobody recognized him as a player.
This would only work once of course, when the match rests, everybody knows there's an enemy dressed up as a pile of trash, so they're not getting fooled again.
The uniforms used for ghillie suits were often flight suits because they were a single piece garment so the wearer was less likely to drag sticks and rocks into the trousers like could happen with a 2 piece garment. They also tend to cut out pieces for ventilation, along the back and in the hat.
Tom Berenger often performed nice military roles. Even as an elite Marine in "Born on the 4th of July" addressing a school class was epic.
Great actor! He also did 2 WW2 movies. 1 named "Battle of the bulge" / check it out Paul!
the trailer park boys clip lol
Dirty old Sam Losco...Quest for Fire cave teeth lookin mawfka, knowmsayin?
Go brush your teeth with a log
Using your helmet to get the enemy to shoot at it was not knew. In the past a soldier would place his hat on a bayonet and raise it up. The problem with this comes about if the enemy soldier is aware of this trick because if he did not see a head underneath the hat he would not fire. British soldiers got around this by first placing a loaf of bread on the bayonet and then the hat. From a distance the bread looked like a head. This was called using you loaf and is now used to tell someone to think. So instead of telling them to use their head they would be told to use their loaf.
Excellent info. I almost can make a video on just this subject.
@@JohnnyJohnsonEsq It was some time ago but I think it appeared in an episode of Sharp.
They didn't get everything right in the TV series. One episode had a man from Liverpool with a scouse accent. That accent did not appear until the 1870s.
I hope you never ever run out of content to make!
My favorite usage of a ghillie suit - hands down - was in the Ft. Myers, Florida episode of "To Catch a Predator".
Dutch: "Billy, what the hell is wrong with you"?
"There's something in those trees". Ccccrrrrrrr.
Weird to watch a Johnny Johnson video that's just nothing but landscape shots from movies.
In the Royal Marines we generally use the ‘head and shoulders’ the smaller ‘mini-ghillie’ suit that is good for wearing on recce’s and more practical than the bulky full sized one as you mentioned. But the snipers still use the full sized ones
Also, "scrim", burlap etc tied to a helmet net and around parts of a rifle, to break up those two most distinctive silhouettes
"The metamorphosis is complete. Sam is now an actual caveman."
“Stay low and move slowly, we'll be impossible to spot in our ghillie suits.” - Captain MacMillan (Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare)
I love that mission
Same. Still my all time favorite mission in Cod 4. I wish we got to see more of MacMillan.@@Ernesto87
Ice spent years making ghillie suits, it has to be my favorite hobby, just laying around in nature and being a part of it is a feeling I live for now.
I have so much trouble finding information on trash ghillie suits so I made my own, for anyone wondering, they get so much hotter than a regular ghillie because of the plastics and insulating properties of cardboard. But holy cow a trash ghillie is a weapon to surprise metal gear, wether your in a city or the bottom of the ocean, there's trash
Caveman Sam Losco! Haha I love how Johnny finds any reason to throw In a Trailer Park Boys clip 😄
Actually in our day and age no one would suspect a sniper in a suit of trash even in a wide open field because we’ve become desensitized to seeing trash in the wilderness
Extra emphasis on "wilderness".
Me a sniper crawling through the streets of India, San Francisco and Toronto covered in my poop ghillie suit
Love the mention of yowie suits
3:07 was not expecting Trailer park boys
The Trailer Park Boys are like the Spanish Inquisition. Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.
Great topic. I enjoyed Your presentation calm and clear without any need for flash boom bang. Thank you for your time.
The Ukrainian film "Sniper: The White Raven" has a scene of a sniper hiding in a trash heap, but I don't remember what he was wearing. Worth checking out if you like modern war films.
And if Johnny ever does the SKS rifle, there's a scene where our hero is issued "Simonov's semi-automatic carbine" when everyone else in sniper class gets an SVD rifle.
The WW1 ghillie suit in my opinion looks very interesting
I suggest videos on:
M-16
1903 Springfield
M1911
Mosin Nagant
Colt Peacemaker
1875 Remington
1851 Colt Navy
Sharps Rifle
Baker Rifle
AK-47
Glock
I wouldn't worry. Johnny really knows his stuff and if he will cover more obscure stuff im sure he will do more common ones like AK. In fact, it would be hard finding the most appropriate clips since weapons like that simply appear so much!
He has one on the Krag i really recommend also
Cant believe you just uploaded a video of just scenery.
Talking about the use of ghillie suits reminds me of a biography of a former Navy Seal Team Six member (One that also been part of Battle of Mogadishu) He went in depth about his training to become a Seal even a Team Six member. One of the points was about the stalking time where they needed to move to somewhere and "kill" someone in a certain time frame, without being detected. It is quite interesting to read
The British unit that first used these was the Lovat Scouts, whose C.O. was Lord Lovat, Simon Fraser. There is family connection between Lord Lovat the Commando founder and David Stirling the founder of the SAS, they were first cousins!'
I knew someone who loved using his grille suit to scare people on halloween. It was very effective.
I'd like to thank COD4 for teaching me and I'm sure most of us who are my age, what this neat camo technique is called
I like that out of all the shows you couldve showed you showed the scene in trailer park boys where cave man sam i discovered living in the woods
Love it! Saw Sniper when I was 8, super cool, then that summer at Church Camp, we made ghillie suits for playing hide and seek in the woods, super epic summer.
hehehe , That Hot Shots scene always get me
That scene from Goldeneye. I remeber when I first saw this, I laughed so hard :D . Also, tank chase scene, that was amazing :D
Your research is tight! And appreciated. Sam the Caveman was a walking Ghillie suit. Hard to believe Barb was into him at one point. But then again who wasn't she into? Ricky, Julian, Mr. Lahey, even Randy.
The caveman always gets the girl
Babe, wake up. Johnny just uploaded a new video.
Deerstalker gear was a staple item of clothing up in Lochaber...mind you never tried to be a tree..although my delivery can be a bit wooden sometimes...😊😊...a ghillie suit might be handy stalking the herd of Haggis roaming free here in the wilds of the wirral peninsula..E...
An event I remember from my time in the Finnish army was a ghillie suit contest between snipers from different countries. The finalists were the Finnish and Estonian snipers, and the Estonian one ended up losing only because he hadn't put ghillie fabric on the bottoms of his boots.
Watching this, I couldn't help but think of Monty Python's How Not to be Seen skit
Sad I forgot it 😢
It's nice to see you branching out, leafing through the facts and fiction of this thorny subject. Here's hoping the video sticks out. Sorry.
Looking forward to the followup on the ultimate piece of urban survival equipment, the Urban Ghillie suit!
I saw something about an urban camouflage scheme for a tank. It was painted in a weird pattern of grey and tan, large rectangles and squares, just to break up the silhouette and blend in with the perfectly box-shaped world of a city.
@@JH-lo9ut Ah yeah, you're thinking of British Army Berlin Brigade tanks, there are many vehicles that had that pattern, I even got a model land rover aa a gift in that camo for someone a couple of years ago, but there's many pictures online of Chieftains in that camo, significantly fewer pictures of Challenger 1 in it but they also exist aswell.

I would love to see Katyusha Rocket trucks in movies
Absolutely will make this
A friend never remembers what they're called, so he just calls them "fur suits" to everyone's amusement.
Dads army…legendary, just saying
Without having an actual name for it, I used a hessian "viper suit" with vegetation to hide my scent and scrim blide for deer hunting. I positioned myself on the sunny side of a valley where the sweet grass was, and the warmth of the sun caused an up current of air. This took my scent away and I waited for the deer to walk up to my hide. Between 1400hrs to 1500hrs the temperature started to lower and the air would drop back down the valley, so that was time to pack up and slip over the ridge through the forest, if you didn't bag one. 🦌
That was great. Thanks for another interesting video.
Captain MacMillan:"Stay low and move slowly, we'll be impossible to spot in our ghillie suits."
Peter Ghillie suit from the Gillis camping.
Huh, never knew that a "ghillie" was an actual thing and not just a random name/word for the suit itself. Scottish attendant/guide of sorts apparently.
Billie Turf suits are army uniforms from Goering officers.
Thanks again, Johnny.
I can say good video here JJ and really tough for a sniper or special forces especially the dangers of that suit and also what not to do in snipers and who knows what next for some other idea look into these Russian helicopters like the MI-24 Hind or this other like the MIL MI-26 or any others in that family as well as look into other variants of the Maxim Machine Gun and Vickers like the PM 1910 or MG 08 among others.
You missed a prime, Monty Python opportunity with the Flying Circus sketch “How not be seen.” Loved the video, regardless.
I know... sad I forgot that one =/
time to watch White Feather! never heard of that one
Showing the august Caveman from Trailer Park Boys literally made me spit out half a chicken sammy onto my screen out of surprise. Kudos!
I was expecting a Ghillie suit clip from “Delta Farce”. Apparently, seems homemade.
Though this is technically not a Ghillie suit, there is one suit in “The Master of Disguise” where the main character blends with the grass.
Awesome video like always.
Great trailer park boys reference
During his military draft service, a friend of mine was assigned to a sniper squad. His first task was to prepare camouflage suitable to the present conditions. It was winter, so he went to other company barracks and stole a white sheet from the bed (bunk?)
I read 'chilli suits' on the thumbnail and though 'that's gonna be one spicey dad joke at the end'.
Shout out to the "moving bush" Japanese Army and Vietnamese-style ghillie (numerous movies/TV shows)
I am disappointed there was no reference to Monty Python's "How not to be seen" sketch. But then... maybe I just didn't spot it.

Runaway slaves and Maroon warriors in the Americas often used vegetation in the woods, Jungles, and swamplands to hide from bounty hunters and slave catchers. It’s a famous guerrilla tactic used by queen nanny in Jamaica and Black Seminoles in the subtropical regions of former Spanish Florida.

Wait who the hell is that vc general ? The only one who actually died in that time was general Nguyen Chi Thanh but he died because of an heart attack 😂

I misread the title as Chili Suits or Chillie Suits. So I visualized formal wear to a chili cook off. This would include a too small unbuttoned tuxedo jacket with the arms unevenly cut off at the shoulders. This vest like jacket can be either faded black or dingy white depending on if the time is before or after 17:00 hours. Under the jacket a white cotton T with several errant chili stains at the front is worn. The stains can be either hematochezia red or duckshit green depending on the chili preference. The T ends 1 1/2 to 2 inches above the trousers exposing just a touch of rounded over abundant flesh. There is no cummerbund. The black tuxedo trousers with the satin stripes are cut off just below the knee. The outfit is completed by a pair of flip flops on otherwise bare feet.
I just thought they were applied camouflage; Never knew they had a name for it. I have heard of "Gilly Juice".
another good video
I thought I saw a new episode posted. Huh. I guess not. Take care Johnny, see ya on the next one. 🙃😉
One upvote for including dad's Army.😁
Can an infrared camera pick up a sniper even if wearing one of these?
Not effective much in these era due to thermal scopes
Back when the Singapore Armed Forces was just founded, it was recommended to soldiers NOT to use the simpoh air leaf (AKA the CB leaf) as part of their camo since these leaves comes in group and the leaf associates with...cough cough* a female body part if you tear the leaf in the middle.
Is a cardboard box an urban ghillie suit?
Medieval hunters use a suit made of grasses and leaf to hunt deers
More Dad jokes please. 🙂😉😛
HAHAHA Sam Losco Super Pimp!
Dad’s Army 2016 wasn't bad for honoring the show and old movie.

If the US is ever at war, I'm making mine from trash bags and cardboard.
Why would you drive a jeep on the sniper range
Not exactly made on location. That would take too much time. But, if you ghillie your suit up to a certain point, you can add stuff from the area. This is called vegging your ghillie.
I thought that was kind of obvious as to what I meant, but I should have worded better like you did.
