they used the same bats in this game as they used in aladdin
even as a kid i was like "how the fuck can a bat kill a fully grown lion?!"
Oh my God, as soon as I Just Can't Wait to be King started playing, I got literal chills from the nostalgia.
I played this game to death when I was little, I used to love the music on the first level and still do!
The one bit that I always used to struggle with was the waterfall log section in the hakunamatata level, I think I would still struggle with that bit now!
And the GRAPHICS! I LOVE BEING TAKEN BACK IN TIME!!!!
This game was like the epitome of my childhood; I used to sit at school thinking about getting home to play this game almost every day, it took me forever to get past the stampede level!! Thanks for posting =]

such a great game, the music, characters and scenery all transported so well from film to game, remember this game so well thwt when watching The LIon KIng today it made me think of how great this game was! Timless game.
Oh to go back in the DAY when all we had to worry about was: school(as in GRADE school...homework was fairly easy), occasional chores (clean the room, empty trash, help with dishes, every now and then mow the lawn) and playing GORGEOUS games like THIS, ALADDIN, X-MEN 1,2, TMNT: the arcade game, EARTHWORM JIM 1,2, BATMAN AND ROBIN (tas), etc.) as well as staying up (chuckle) "late" on Sat to watch SNICK (Ren and Stimpy!, Are you afraid of the dark?!, Doug!, Rugrats! and watching Sat morning cartoons (Batman TAS, X-Men, Spiderman, etc.)....now we gotta go to work at a job we don't particularly like (for me: customer service), living paycheck to paycheck BARELY paying the monthly bills and rent and having enough food to eat and gas in the car, doing chores EVERY SINGLE DAY even on day's off because they never fucking end......all the while awkwardly trying to find that special someone because no one knows how to talk to eachother anymore (thanks Internet, texting, etc.) and blah blah blah!!! ahhh! ...sorry......*cough*...I..I love this game

It was always a good day when I could get past "King", I really loved the stampede level. So it was always worth the effort to try to get to it.
"Be prepared" was the furthest I ever got, I actually popped in a VHS tape to record the level when I did it. Sorta as a "I'll never see this again" moment.

Very nostalgic. This game came with the Genesis we bought back around 1995.
This was my favorite game as a kid. I used to pretend to be Simba when my cousins andI played Lion king so to actually be able to PLAY as a real lion well...I could barely contain my excitement when I got this game. Screw mario, THIS was the game that made me into the gamer I am today.

Isn't it a wonderful game. I enjoy playing old arcades, fighters, scrollers and even text adventures. it's some kind of my hobby. But this one really takes me back to my childhood. Just the game of remarkable kindness and peacefulness.
well, during the stampede stage, Simba must have a tremendous amount of energy if he can run THAT long!
I actually think games like this are a lot more challenging than the ones we get now.
This was back when western developers hated their fanbase, making their games stupidly hard, instead of a gradual learning curve, and teaching you the basics as you went, then eventually making you learn all the basics they taught you over time in a game. Nope, not with those guys, it was good luck passing something stupid we placed in an inopportune place, enjoy.
Wow, this sounds much better than the SNES version. The music sounds more crisp and is more catchy, and the sound effects actually sound like something that belong in a game.
I love The Lion King movie and game. I wish this would get released on a Sega Collection for the PS3!:)
I could never get passed the "Be Prepared" level as a kid even at 25:20 - 25:22 I always used to keep missing that rock part as a boat

I loved this game as a child and I still do. The ending however was a little disapointing but that will never ruin the nostalgia of the game.
Bond memories :( i used to play it as a child, still remember how hard was for me the combination of the monkeys in the second level :S Good game, it was one of my first games, i really enjoyed it.

Level 4 the stampede for me is very difficult, because it's like a race, you have to reach or not let you to catch up to you something.
I'm about to cry lol. I remember playing this game when I was 8 years old but I've never beaten the final level. My mum finished this game completely and I'm a bit envious 😄

While you're running towards the hedgehog, you should've pressed down. When you do this, you'll spin on the hedgehog and it'll flip upside down, just like when you roar at it!
12:22 If you play the Pink Floyd album Darkside of the Moon and the Wizard of Oz at the same time, the sound will match at some parts. Something simular happened while filming Danny. The following audio was recorded while Danny was cussing out people on the phone. It is being played over some clips from the Lion King.

this game and so manny others bring back alot of great memories(jurassic park,shinobi 3,phantasy star 4,sonic & knuckles,)and the stampede section of the game is forever burned into my mind from being punished by it haha,i miss those days because all game developers care about now are gaming fads like multiplayer and first and third person shooters and graphics (almost everything i dont give a shit about) i those days renting games was fun,now i have to worry about red and yellow rings of death?

I played this game on PC, it's exactly the same. Only the music and sound FX are different. The music is ScreamTracker modules (including digital samples from the real OST) and all SFX are digital.

I remember being a kid and getting to the last level and never really figuring out how to do the flip. I only ever did it on accident, so I'd spend a very long time mashing buttons hoping to flip Scar off. ( Ha ha.)
The booklet that came with the game lied to me or I was doing it wrong.
i noticed that when you where on the level called "Simba's exile" and was chased by that boulder. you didn't roll. To do a roll you must run and while running you press down. By doing so you won't get hurt by the porcupine. :)
also, I'm judging by the "Simba's Exile" level that you never learned how to do the roll move with little Simba? ....... it would've really helped you getting past those porcipines!

Good Gameplay! However, I like more the SNES version of this game. The sound, the music and the self control is better on SNES.

This game was savagely hard when I was 7 and its no better now, still ace though but for a kids game it was damn hard
I remeber playing the jundgle book god I love dinsey style 2d games there so fun and the art aways comes together like a painting something I dont see in other games :3

I literally have not played this game in 20 years but I still have the cartridge… I'm thinking of hooking up my SNES to try again and see how I fare this time around because I gave up on this game as a kid... I couldn't even make it past the second level without getting lucky lol

I love this game.
This game has some interesting Difficulty differences, it's not like other games where if you set it to "Easy" the game itself becomes easier or if you set it to "Hard" the game becomes much harder, no, with this game, no matter WHAT setting to set it to, the game always remains hard due to the design of the levels and the enemy count always remaining the same. The only difference with Easy is that you get 8 lives and the enemies take less hits, but it's still hard as hell. I have full respect for the person who successfully played through this longplay without getting a single Game Over. I bet they could've even played without losing a single life, had it not been for the part at 12:56. Very confusing part, I thought I had to take a hit in order to pass that part.
A lot of games that came out during this time were like that...The actual game difficulty stayed the same but you got more or less lives depending on the difficulty

Man. I got to the fight with Scar waaaaay back when I was 5. I got my butt kicked, and a few days later, the game stopped working correctly and glitching upon startup. I was very sad I had to part with such a fun game.
the only problom with the mega drive is when simba gets hurt he sounds like adalt simba when he gets hurt. and the only time he says ow as a cub is only in the stampede levle
hate the stampede level! even 12 years after playing this for the first time i stuck playing this level.
To think the people who helped make this game make smartphones now...
In my 30 y.o. I fully realize that any good game for16bit consoles is way better than any newer game. The main point is controls. You can't have solid controls for 3D world in 2D world's joystick on the 2D screen...

I think the dude playing doesn't even know Simba can roll by pressing down while running lol. It can be used to turn the hedgehogs and to access some secret items.
