Pity there's no commentary. Dreadful result for Ireland - arguably ending their hopes of qualification for Spain. That Belgian side was very good; but there were some serious questions asked about the Referee and his performance. Did he give them some much needed assistance in a crucial qualifier? Not shown is the free kick given after Eric Gerets's ridiculous theatrical dive right on the 18 yard box. That free kick led to the Belgian goal. Irish fans often bitterly complain about being "robbed", but they had a strong case in this game and an earlier qualifier in 1977 against Bulgaria. Ireland missed out on the WC in 1982 by goal difference, losing the runner up spot to Platini's France who would go on to reach the semi final. That was a fine Irish side.
The referee was a cheat. Years later, he contradicted himself when trying to explain the reason as to why he disallowed the goal. 'We were absolutely robbed. I think the game stunk, that's all I would say,' Mickey Walsh said later.
Why did you not show the disgraceful dive by Gerets to get the falsely awarded free kick at the end. That was the highlight of the match. And the disallowed Stapleton goal was a disgrace. The referee got in the way of the belgian. A total cheat result
A great Irish team that.. Horrible how they were cheated to let Belguim and France through to WC 1982.. I still hear of that Stapelton disallowed goal the referee paused and waited for the flag for offside and the belgian diving also.. Horrible cheats
Disgusting bent refereeing. To say Ireland were robbed in this game is a massive understatement. Nazare was the referee's name and he was a fucking cheat
Good night. Watched and enjoyed so liked. Thanks from Baku city

Hat was the Ireland goal disallowed for? Definitely not offside and didn't look like s foul even
Corrupt referee and linesman. Never offside.
The referee was a cheat. Years later, he contradicted himself when trying to explain the reason as to why he disallowed the goal. 'We were absolutely robbed. I think the game stunk, that's all I would say,' Mickey Walsh said later.

Referee and linesmen built fine houses out of the proceeds soon after. ""If Ireland score raise your flag."
