Rafi Saheb though a very good singer was over-praised, over-publicized and over-popularized by the Muslim brotherhood with the help of underworld and film mafia for the obvious reasons and oblique motives.
Whenever Kishore Da sang with Rafi Saheb it was Kishore Da who appeared better than Rafi Saheb.
He always surpassed Rafi Saheb and was liked and loved more whenever sang together and/or rendered his voice for the same lyrics.

Just wanted to share a story behind the song you might find interesting. In this song Manna Day who has given voice to Mehmood loses the singing battle with Kishore Kumar. In an interview he said that he was very reluctant being a highly trained classical trained singer to lose the battle with Kishore Kumar who isn't classically trained. It took lot of efforts to convince Manna Day as no one else could have pulled it off. When final result came even Manna Day was highly impressed by talent that Kishore Kumar showcased.

1. The bald guy in the movie was supposed to play the lead role. But no other main stream actor wanted to play bald on silver screen that time. So he decided to do it himself and give the lead role to someone else. It is one of the best performance of Mahmood
2. Manadey the singer for the bald music teacher actually didn't wanted to loose the song battle because he was a classical trained singer and Kishor Kumar didn't have any formal training in music or singing. But during the recording of the song he was so impressed with kishor kumar skills as a singer he accepted to loose to Kishor Kumar.

India have many States-different philosophy of lyrics, jonour of songs, melody, old music industries, both old genre new genre proficient passionate singers with musical knowledge;variety of male voices deep bass, heavy, husky, sweet etc.. etc..
There are many regional male singers who have much deeper voices..
I agree many regional singers all over India aren't as popular as Rafi Ji, Kishore Ji etc. etc; but do you think fame popularity are the ultimate measure of art and music?
In this regard it is unjustifiable to come at immediate conclusion that this that👆 voice is the ultimate, best, king voice..
One more fact- there are some other jonour of regional songs which some legend famous Bollywood singers sung;
they failed to bring the essence; but singing the same song the regional singers brought authentic essence..
My point is that-just XYZ singers are good in singing ###songs and ABC singers failed to sing the same ###songs doesn't necessarily mean ABC singers are average singers;
similarly ABC singers have ability to sing***** songs; which XYZ singers can't do properly...

Kishore Kumar was and is the Renaissance Man of Bollywood. His voice, his songs, his acting and his overall persona is to this date unmatched. amazingly, the one man who I think matches Kishore Da's quality of voice and singing is the son of his opponent here (Mehmood, another gem of Indian Cinema and I will always cherish Kunwara Baap) Lucky Ali who is yet to disappoint me with a song. He's THE one singer I have waited and waited for the next release of. Between Sur, Kaante, Yuva, Anjana Anjani and Tamasha and his Albums - that man makes you wait like a sage on meditation. Unmatched gems all over, and people call me biased towards Hollywood. Shame on them.
You must watch "Kuwaraa Baap" for Mehmood. The bald guy teacher. Kuwaraa means unmarried and baap means father. Really a very beautiful movie.

Movie Padosan was released on 11/20/68. One of the most popular, comedy film of its time. Kishore was only 39 when this movie was made. He died in 10/13/1989. He left too soon at the age of 58. The guy in the cap is Sunil Dutt, father of Sunjay Dutt. Sunil was also a legendary actor of his time. And Saira Banu, my all time favorite, is in the green saree that plays the girl next door. You guys are right about only select few were singing in 50’s thru the 80’s, Kishore Kumar, Lata, Asha, and Usha, all three sisters, Mohammad Rafi, Manaday, Mukesh, and Mahendar Kapoor. But back then, songs were poetry and music was melodious. Unlike today’s garbage.
