I remember seeing this when I was a teen. I was not a fan of any westerns at the time. As I watched it expecting to walk away from the TV at anytime. I found myself glued to the TV and I found the movie to be very suspenseful. Yul Brynner was awesome. Then without knowing it I would see The Terminator without knowing I was watching what Yul Brynner had been in Westworld. I was blown away when I found out Arnold had studied Westworld and based his Terminator character on Yul's character The Gunslinger.

This is one of my absolute favourites since first watch at 10yrs old on TV in '78. At first I was disappointed that there was no final gun duel, but since late teens I appreciated much more Bryner's nuances; that dawning of awareness on his face when the gunslinger finally gets to fulfill his programming, actually shooting his opponent Brolin; the confusion on his face at Medieval World, a habitat not in his programming at all... wonderful! And see how the scorched gunslinger isn't trying to choke Benjamin right at the end, he's gesturing in an IMPLORING way, as if just right before his "death", he has achieved consciousness and is confused and frightened? Bloody brilliant... Terminators 1 and 2 have much better visuals, but they have nothing like these moments for me.

I understand that mr. Brynner's eyes were also affected by the Contact lenses he wore. They gave him eye drops to help (one drop per eye) and it felt so much better he tried using 2 drops per eye. His vision blurred and they had to wait for the drops to wear off before continuing to shoot.

This is one of those movies where I can't help but pick at all the whys? hows? and what abouts? of the world. Do the guests know they're being watched? What if a woman or child wants to be sheriff? Do they get to spoil the illusion for everyone else? Why would the robots need live ammunition? What if a guest is hit, stabbed, blown up, or assaulted by another guest thinking they're a robot? (the technicians react to the snake bite like a guest injury is extremely rare)
Also, the irresponsible use and reliance on science is a much more visible theme than greed.

Westworld is a damn good film. This is why I was really hoping that the Westworld series had been a genuine sequel, where Delos had (somehow) survived the original android rampage and returned with a "bigger, badder park". But, alas, it was just another reboot/reimagining.
Unfortunately, despite Brynner's very odd return, Futureworld came off as a big-budget TV movie rather than a theatrical film. I like it for what it is, but it was definitely a step down from Westworld. The whole replacing world leaders with lookalike androids plot was a bit too obvious and on the nose for such high-concept material. Blythe Danner was pretty hot, though, and reminded me of Margot Kidder's portrayal of Lois Lane.

J.J.Spliffstar the 1984 book Carnosaur is interesting, it introduced the idea of dinosaurs being closer to birds and being warm blooded. In that book the scientists clone the dinosaurs and fill in the gaps of dna with chicken DNA they grow the embryos in chicken eggs which makes a lot of sense. I think the Jurassic novel ,even though it’s a rip off,is a more fun read and more suspenseful

I saw WESTWORLD after its release and thought it was innovative. I was curious to see Yul Brynner play the part of a robotic gunslinger gone haywire. I had seen him in THE TEN COMMANDMENTS as Pharoah Ramses opposite Charlton Heston as Moses and he was brilliant. For a movie star whose only script word was “Draw!” his role was iconic. “So let it be written, so let it be done!”

70s SF was highly imaginative and far more so then the stuff in the 80s. Once the PC came out, SF was all about computers and electronics, but 70s SF had more to do with the future world we would be living in.
I understand that the third season of the HBO series may draw from Beyond Westworld.

In the film, there's meeting where they discussed the growing anomalies in Westworld complex and one recollected that they really didn't know what a computer that built/programmed other computers like in the Gunslinger might be doing. Indeed before the film, 2001 Space Odyssey explored what an advanced system might do when it began to become conflicted about it priorities is called called a Möbius Loop and in Westworld the Androids overrode there safeguards and began to act as if there roles were real.

As I said not to be too nitpicky but that is a very big oversight.
