The most soothing thing you can tell her is, if the motor dies, the pilot floats gracefully to the ground & a slow jog keeps the pilot on their feet. Tangling cords woudl scare me more!
The motors we use in RC airplanes are made in the same factories, in Taiwan or China, and they are quite reliable. I know of one similar size motor that has lasted 10 years. There's no reason that your AliExpress motor should just fail from use.
Taiwan kind of, China not so much. China is capable of good quality but the issue is they also put out more junk than good stuff. Since branding isn't really a thing in China it's a toss up if you get a good product or not. You can buy the exact same product from the exact same seller with a few weeks in-between orders and the product you get can be completely different.
With as much content as you've made with it, the AliExpress paramotor has been a very good value. I guess we all like rooting for the underdog to succeed. 🙂
"because it's an RC engine" really grinds my gears :) ...it's a DLE 175 engine isn't it? DLE is a quality piece of gear. The biggest wear factor is that you're more likely at the top end of the throttle for longer. DLE do however make a setup for paramotor which includes a reduction drive (200cc, better mufflers, etc), shouldn't be much more expensive than this one, and I'd expect a lifespan no shorter than any other two stroke engine. There's also some guys that have upgrades for most RC engines, like better rings and such.
@@TuckerGott , not to be difficult, but the feeling is based on? :) ...from pics I could find, the case molding look pretty well done, proper walbro carb, etc. So few things can go wrong with them that they're also easy to overhaul (rings, reeds, etc). What's the time before overhaul that would flip the switch from hate to love?
@@abates3747based on the previous videos this engine has already had numerous mechanical failures and even pieces of it falling off in just the few hours it's been used. That doesn't seem like quality/reliability to me. 🤷♂️
@@abates3747 Well for one thing, those are proboblt waIbro carbs, not real ones. it's from aliexpress, copyrights don't apply in the CCP, and if they do... they don't
@@TuckerGott Well, your title for this video said you were flying it until it "explodes", yet you didn't even *try* to fly it until it gave out. You'll need to do a proper long cross-country flight and see if you can get it to break if you want to do a title like this.
I live in 🥶, I have 4 of the bunk heaters I use in my shop. They are the tanks for the heaters, and they will eventually leak on the seal where the fuel line hooks to. Keep an eye out for that. 👍
Dude that things does not suck, its started right up and sounded pretty good considering the exhaust output. Curious if there would be any way to muffle that exhaust a bit more?
I have been a paramotor pilot since I was 22 (I'm 41) when I built my first team with a 125 cc two-stroke karting engine. The Ali Express paramotor brought back memories! that feeling of not trusting the setup and the doubt of staying the night in the forest... What good memories!!! Also, I have followed your channel since the beginning and I never noticed those biceps.
Be safe man. As long as you don't prove us right and youre being safe and keeping a check on things I get it. Beautiful view up there nice smooth landings. Take care man.
That's only *after* you've made all the changes he's done - most important is replacing those carabiners, but also remember the piping he had to replace and the exhausts he had to deal with just to get it to run. And even after all that, the leg strap clips are still really dodgy and dangerous. (He also did another video where the AliExpress carabiners were tested, and they failed way earlier than they were supposed to...)
After all the abuse its been given so far it doesn't seem that bad and its still going as it should. I would love to see if you could get up to cloud base or a least what is the max climb you can achieve on a full tank
Don't retire it. Rebuild it! Do a video of a tear down and then build it up with proper internals and make it a legit paramotor! What would it take to make it awesome! Do it like those guys that build up Harbor Freight Predator motors! I'm thinking bore over, better exhaust, better internals potential carb tune. Then upgrade the harness to make it safe. See what it could become. What upgrades would you put on it to make it more legit?
considering the exhaust outlets had not been decked, there's probably gross machining errors internally, or at least it was probably full of grinding grit
You should try seeing how much extra power you can get out of it by upgrading the piston rings, exhaust, & propeller. You could get 25% more rpms, and it will sound better.
Great little flight. The colours of the trees in Autumn (sorry, your FALL) were beautiful. Picture postcard stuff. Maybe the AliExpress Mobile is going to surprise us all. "I think I can, I think I can."!
I don't get it when people watch videos like this and accuse you of being irresponsible, as they seem to not understand you're taking precautions and know what you're doing. You have amply demonstrated that. I think it's an excellent thing to document and demonstrate how this performs to destruction because there are going to be those out there that seriously consider buying a motor like this, and hopefully this should caution against it. Maybe people shouldn't go all Dunning Kruger and assume that you don't know what you're doing.
Have you thought of base jumping, letting your shoot dangle and jump over it, with the AliExpress strapped on and then flying away? Not sure if possible but would be pretty sweet.
Rc airplane engines aren’t junk. Maybe that Chinese one is but most are only subject to your maintenance. Being two strokes they’ll need proper oil and you’ll have to replace the plugs, rings and bearings every so many hours but outside of that they’re bullet proof and don’t fail.
It's weird how thrashers you expect will die horribly and quickly will perform nicely until you need or get comfortable with them, then they fail spectacularly. They just know.
Im really considering getting this setup from ali express. Which mods and improvements do you think i need to make to this to make it as safe as possible? I know its not the best decision to but the price is what i can afford. Thanks for any help.
You can find used packages(wing/paramotor/helmet/reserve) from people getting out of the sport all the time. The lack of climb rate along with many other reasons would make this setup much less fun than a real setup.
200 hours is the normal top end rebuild. Typically, there are a few minor issues here and there before then but you can theoretically keep them running forever if you keep up with the maintenance.
The truth is if you actually do all the proper updates you can run it until the pistons & rings wear out which actually can happen.. China metallurgy can be a nut and bolt copy of known premium brands, eg; Honda products. But it won't last as long by miles...
If I want to get into paragliding myselfhow should I start? what wings would be optimal for beginner and If I wanna get into paramotoring what motor would you advise?
Like everyone says, do the training first, then look for gear. Training will save you money (less equipment damage), injuries and you'll connect with other pilots, which for me is a big part of the fun in paramotoring!
I don't think you'll be done with that damn Ali motor until you've reached the clouds with it. And that's my challenge to you. To get it out of your system. Reach above Cloud level. Be safe.
Let subscribers take a guess at how high a full tank of fuel will take it. The winner gets the used Ali express unit and a discount on a decent wing and some training as a prize. I'd fly it. Old man with little left to lose 😁

The build quality is questionable. If everything internally was built to spec then yeah it will probably last some time. If not? It's gonna blow up :D
I bet you could get a better voice to noise ratio processing your audio with a sound cancelling plugin like Acon Digital De-Noiser
Is this how you fixed the audio on the tf2 stream 😂
I freaking love the fact that you watch paramotor content lmao.
not if he uses this 180dB nightmare motor from hell

What if you tried some upgrades to the engine? A better exhaust, for instance, might yield both less noise and more power.
Would love to see you fly an electric Para-Motor and give your thoughts.
The worst thing that could happen is that it catches on fire. :)
had that happen to a balloon friend, Jamie Bickett. RIP Jamie, you were a good guy.
I think it's time to invest in some more silent exhaust, it deserves some upgrades, see where you can push this engine and see if you can improve it.
Descend a mountain using the aliexpress, a BASE chute, and a snowboard?
Honest question, is it possible to catch fire and burn the ropes and chute while in flight? Like a malfunction?
You should always carry some jb weld. It's saved me a few times.
TL;DR The paramotor is just fine, didn't explode.
I’ve biked to Frenchtown many a time from Washington’s crossing or New Hope. From the river the banks look more steep. Looks flat from up there
