A lot of great advice in this video! My favorite trips are solo. Nobody whining, puking, or asking when we are heading back in. I do enjoy going to boat shows to see how crazy expensive new boats have gotten. They're not any better than what I've got now but they sure look good under the lighting and that curing fiberglass smell, ahh....
Captain Matt, your my hero. Force 1988 Bayliner center console used,… buyer 2019 summer. Just before COVID. (Then “They” closed THE OCEAN! During COVID) Upgraded from a 12’ Nourvania Poseidon rubber boat 18 hp. So,… I so got the boat addiction. And boat “boat stuff is a “little bit more expensive”!! Hilarious. Bring another thousand for sure. Bayliner parts used are expensive too! But I know how to remove and replace EVERYTHING! Thanks for your hard work to provide this valuable input. Just sayin, I would have liked to have found you before I purchased this boat though. I’m now looking for my retirement boat for San Diego Bluefin fishing. Peace. Subscriber now.
Having space to store a boat and you need to keep it covered to protect the expensive upholstery from UV damage. Also important to inspect the tires and trailer bearings. Just because the tires have lots of tread doesn't mean they're not ten years old, dry rotted and about to blow out. People also need to think about having a proper tow vehicle. Being a truck driver I say summer starts when you see somebody on the side of the road with a blown out tire or an overheated engine. I see it every year. People loaded up with the family on their way to go camping or boating broke down on the side of the road. Be prepared so it doesn't ruin your weekend.
What most boat owners need , is, Where do i scrap my boat and how to go about it. ????Like Wa, state, if you just drop off your boat and discard it, no matter where you put it, its a derilick vessel and the state can take your bill out of your bank account, paychecks, retirement funds, stocks and so on.
Fork out the survey cost! It will save you so much stress and money down the road. The used market is stuffed full of hurricane damaged units this year. They’ve made it into markets far removed from the gulf coast, east coast FL, and even the Caribbean islands after being “repaired.” If you have little experience with boats, you probably won’t know what to look out for.
@@BoatBuyersSecretWeapon I ran across two in northern Alabama last fall. One was a beautiful looking SeaRay deck boat that I had to pass on because I noticed irregularities while doing the tap test. When I pulled open the anchor locker and forward starboard hatches there was blown out matte in the freeboard and a sloppy patch job visible through the inner hull.
@@BoatBuyersSecretWeapon , I list some. Some of these can buy at auto store and as good as pro versions some you’d need to order online from detailing websites. Polish Pads- Lake Country Microfiber Cutting Pads and Buff&Shine Uro 50:50 Pads Compounds&Polishes-Koche Chemie Cutting Compund, Finish with Xtreme Solutions Ice Polish or LVR 403 IPA- Gel better than car clear coat as far as forgiving just mix rubbing alcohol with distilled water to remove polish residue Ceramic Coating- Starke Thor Coating marine specific. Sealant- use on top of coating or as coating The last Coat Version 2, Adams Graphene Spray, Xtreme Solutions Poly Sealorder only. Over the counters I like Griots 3in1 ceramic spray, 303 Graphene Spray. Daily use- I love Meguairs Ceramic Detailer my favorite quick detailer and I have some very pricey ones, ONR 32oz bottle can be diluted and goes a long way for daily wipe down to prevent swirling gel, also spray down with Diluted ONR over coat with Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Wet Wax as drying aid and wipe down. Plus turtle wax is cheap. You do these steps and you’ll never need to deep clean and last step if you have a pump sprayer may add 30 seconds to wiping down boat, but keeps oxidation completely away.
Interior I use two products regularly. Cleaner- P&S Interior Cleaner Easy on vinyl. Protection- Lithium’s Inner Space, absolutely blows away all these boat companies protection, smells great and environmentally safe.
People buying there first boat don't realize you have a cost to register your boat, then you have to get license plates for the trailer, then you have insurance, new buyers don't understand these costs when buying a boat. After they buy the boat you have additional cost, life jackets, anchor and rode, EPIRB, VHF radio, ect.
There are not a lot of fresh water options on VanIsle. Clutesi in Port Alberni, and possible sites in Courtenay and Campbell River are the only ones with ocean access. You might find space on one of the lakes.
What about relatives, friends or that acquaintance or neighbor who you don't really talk with who all of a sudden when they see a boat in your driveway want to borrow it not go out but borrow it like a lawnmower. And they know everything there is to know about boating and when you hesitate to say yes or you refuse they become indignite and get their feelings hurt because you don't trust them. And if you actually fall for it and do let them take it out and it comes back unscathed you let out a sigh of relief BUT then you take a closer look and the interior is trashed and they made no effort to clean the melted chocolate bar that got everywhere. Or your fuel tank/s are dry as a bone ir they complain they had to buy 6 to 12 gallons of fuel and try to get you to reimburse them. While I've never owned a boat they are out tbere. Choosing beggars they are and careless they will be IF you let them "Borrow the boat".
@@BoatBuyersSecretWeapon While working at that small Midwestern lake. I spoke with a guy who had his family out for the weekend. During the conversation he told me that he had someone cut between his boat and the skier he was towing he didn't tell me what he did but he enacted revenge. The bad part he was downing beer and he saw no problem with drinking and operating a speedboat. Shudder! So yes I know why you included *some "boaters"* One of the biggest reasons, I'm a big fan of jet boats. No prop to tear up the body of someone like a downed skier. Getting run over by just a fast moving hull can still kill but props ca do a real number and almost guarantee a grizzly death.
There is absolutely no way I would hand over the keys to my boat to anyone unless it’s going in the shop or being sold. Letting a buddy, neighbor, or family member take your boat out is asking for trouble.

Simply insure it so that no other drivers can use it on their own.,

Tip #69: Never buy a pro bass anglers used tournament boat. These things have been beat on, ragged out, put up wet and beat on some more.
