The Surprising Origin of Dog Tag Silencers

Dog tag silencers are great but a lot of us took it one step further. Cut a piece of OD 550 cord to length, strip the guts and thread the chain through it. Not only do they silence the chain, they also prevent the chain from yanking on chest hairs if you are so gifted or cursed. Just take a match and melt the edges to keep it from fraying.

@@Mydogtags I have had one on my dog tags since the mid 1980's. When it gets stiff from sweat, I just stuff the tags and chain in a blouse pocket and toss it in the washer.

We used OD Green duck tape around the edges of our dog tags to silence them when I served. What we soldiers call adapt, improvise, and overcome! 😁

i was in the army from 1968 to 1971 with one year in vietnam....always wore my dog tags but never knew about silencers....

As per the video Dogtags were never officially issued by the military, you had to either make them yourself or buy them from the PX
