I enjoyed watching. I am a 1966 grad. Our varsity cheerleaders were exhilarating. If I only knew that those were going to be the best days of my life.

That's the year I was born. I suspect that you are like me, and when you grew up and left and actually saw the rest of the world beyond your hometown, you were in for a huge letdown...

It sounds like there are fewer dads at home in 1999 than in 1966...

I just watched this and the full 1966 movie, I thought both were fantastic! A lot people make fun of the classic Tv shows like Leave It to Beaver, but I thought the 1966 movie was a lot like it! Be sure to see the Patty Duke show to see what teenagers were like in the 1960’s 😃

If you have a decent IQ, high school grades don’t matter at all. I graduated in ‘95 with a 2.3 in high school because I didn’t care about grades and my parents didn’t care about my grades. I took 5 years off after high school to do road trips. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to college. But after 5 years I went, never having taken any SAT test, but took a placement test in a community college. Started there and then transferred to the state university in 2 years, and graduated in molecular and microbiology studied hard and graduated first in my class with a 3.9. I was then accepted to my first school of choice to get my doctorate degree (PharmD) because I applied myself. So you don’t need to take high school too seriously at all... it’s just a holding tank for teenagers really.

That is the worst message to send to kids. Great that things worked out for you, despite you and your parents not caring about grades. That's going to work for everyone else. Most people don't have a lot of money, so they cannot afford to let their children fool around and not care about schoolwork.

@@vrinda5303 I camped/slept in a van during those road trips. Neither my parents nor I ever came from money. I worked my way through college, also received Pell Grants, Scholastic grants, and loans. I’m fortunate I took that time off after high school in order to get to a place when I knew I was ready to go to college and do the long haul. If I’d been forced to go right after high school I would have burned out fast.

      Good for you.
Excellent. However i do opine that you were fortunate to discover your potential so successfully. Many of us fall by the wayside.
Your surname implies possible Jewish ancestry? Possible high regard for education and a profession?
(I listened to a Long Isl. 16 yr old who left home and became a Mistress practicing S&M for several years. Not a good idea.)

      Ok. Brag. You succeeded.
Just do not shove your hard work and good fortune in the rest of our faces.

And if you find that you don't want to enter a profession which the government has decided requires a college education, then post HS, along with HS, education no longer matters as well - a huge burden to be relieved of...
School isn't for everyone. I resented school because I was forced to go. And then my parents wouldn't let me drop out in 11th grade like I wanted...

Sophomore...you must have been Class of 02...I distinctly recall hating Steve Gee, hockey player in class off 02. I got a really fucked up story about him and what he did to me.
