Tina, I don't think I have the words to tell you how much I appreciate you sharing this with us. Your vulnerability in this video made me feel like I've known you for years. When you talked about "I'm an artist, and I can't make money off of my art..." and then later how it feels to be in your twenties, I thought YES I'm not the only one. I felt a piece of me in each of your experiences. Your words at the end "everything is part of your story", ahhh thank you thank you so much. Your spirit is such a bright and beautiful light in this world. I haven't been journaling that much lately (in the form of just writing thoughts and words) and you have inspired me to get back into it, so I can look back years from now and see all the things that make up the story of who I am. Writing is almost a form of mediation that I've been itching to start again, so I can't thank you enough for inspiring me to do that. I know this is kind of all over the place, I just had to let you know my thoughts after watching this video! Finding your channel was such a blessing in my life! Lots of love xx

Jordan, I know that I am late to your comment and we have since communicated in between, but I want you to know how grateful I am for your words and that I am right along with you. When I was a little girl, I always thought my twenties were going to be the time of my life when everything would be exciting and fun (ie sex and the city and every other movie/tv show ever lol)...and there are moments when this is the case, but it is also so freaking hard. I had no idea how lost I would feel as an artist/creator nor did I understand the societal pressures of relationships/marriage etc. Writing/creating is the one thing that has seemed to ground me in all of this craziness. I really feel that your channel provides me with this same feeling of 'exhale' and meditation that I crave so badly in this life. Thank you, thank you lovely

    Hi Tina,
I know you don't make videos anymore so you probably won't see this, but I just wanted to say thank you for everything you and your channel have done for me over the last year. I discovered you just after the UK had it's first lockdown back in March last year, and with the stress and uncertainty of everything, I really needed some kind of outlet for my feelings to stop me from pouring them out onto anyone else who was likely going through the same thing. Journaling became a way for me to express myself in ways I never imagined I'd be able to - I'd always seen it as something little kids did to write about their crushes and all the care-free feelings that come with childhood, and it had never really crossed my mind that if I looked past that, I'd find a way of exploring and getting to know myself, with all the rawness and realness that could never come with just thinking about things on the surface.
It's shown me how to dig deep and come to understand myself on a whole other level, and the same with other people too - unpicking all my thoughts, feelings and actions and learning where they stem from has really opened my eyes to why I do certain things or act in certain ways, and being able to keep that understanding at the forefront of my mind has helped me to interpret the way others act towards me in a more positive light - essentially, it's made me take things less to heart as I now realise that the majority of the time, it's not me that's the problem, but something going on in their life under the surface.
Aside from all of that, your channel just has such a calming aura that never fails to relax me, and there's something so beautifully human about the way you share your journals with the world with next to no filter. Your channel's also acted as a place to escape the toxic positivity of social media nowadays, and seeing your journey and how you've grown throughout the years has taught me that it's okay to not be able to love yourself straight away - it's a process, and isn't something that's just gonna happen overnight. Similarly, you've taught me that while of course it's nice to not judge yourself, what you think and what you write, it's okay to not quite be there yet but still be working towards the end goal. All in all, I honestly can't praise you enough and can only wish that your videos continue to reach more and more people as I think there's truly something for every single person in this world to learn from you. I'm cringing as I say this, but it's the truth - thank you so much for changing my life.

One of the things you said in your journals that you wanted to do was to make a difference and help make people's lives better. Congratulations, my friend, mission accomplished. If you ever doubt how important you are to the world, just go back thru and read the comments for this video. You are cherished and please never forget that.💜

I can feel the pain in this writing so much so that there are tears in my eyes. I struggle with being truly open and vulnerable and use my writing to make it into fiction. If I can do the slightest of what you have done, I will be making huge steps. I admire you so much for being so open talking about this. I can hear it's painful to go back over but think of all the strength you have gained from this. You are amazing.

Since I started watching you, I got back into meditation (why would one stop doing that???) and started journaling my life. I'm using all the chacra journaling prompts you recomended and let me just tell you... my spirit is lighter by the minute, my mind is healthier by the minute. I really needed that. I struggle with OCD and depression. And writing about my feelings, throwing up all the gunk and realising that when a page doesn't match the other, when my pen runs out of ink and I have to change it and the journal will be different... is actually kind of beautiful. Our lives aren't uniform and that is incredibly beautiful. Just wanted to tell you that what you do matters.

Tina 💜💜💜💜💜 My first thought was, "holy shit! A 30 minute Overall Adventures video --omg how did I get so lucky?!" As I watched you flip lovingly and, at times, reluctantly, through these blessed tomes of your own history... oh wow. All I can say is thank you. Thank you for your vulnerability, your realness, your trust in us as your viewers to hold what you have shared about your journey thus far. The pain, darkness, and very human struggles you let us see here only make me see how ever more brilliantly your soul light shines. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. 🙏🏼 Here's to continued growth and journeying (and adventuring! 😉) Much love!

I don’t know how to express the awe I feel over you sharing those gifts with the world. I can tell just by watching your hand movements and how you continued to stretch the sleeves of your sweater over your hands that you felt exposed and vulnerable, and you were! How brave. Thanks in part to your videos I recently began my journaling journey...at the age of 43. Clearly self-discovery happens no matter what your age. Thank you so much for sharing your process, heart, and soul with others so we can learn through you and your experiences.

Wow Tina!!!! I agree with all the lovely comments 💖💖💖 thank you for sharing as I'm sick and tired of people pretending their life is amazing especially online and boring fake videos where they don't share struggles and you feel more alone than you started.
To be honest I loved and appreciated your video, I'm going through a tough time now, like many, the year has been tough and listening to you it calmed me, I didn't feel alone. I'm sorry you went through the tough times too, I guess we all do in someway in life, it shapes us as it has with you, a beautiful soul as I've seen from your other videos! 💐 You layed yourself bare and we don't say but many on that journey yet you were the only one I've seen online being TRULY VUNERABLE! And no-one inspires me, I'm hard to please in this unauthentic world, BUT YOU'VE INSPIRED ME & I have more respect for you than anyone I can think of! Forget fame and celebs, they nothing compared to you 🥰 You are a wonderful role model, I wish u were around when I was young, it would have saved me alot of pain 🙂
Sometimes we just need extraordinary people like you to come forward and make the world a better place by just being you and sharing your goodness like you are 👏 Those prisoners, kids and ex were lucky to have you! I'm just glad you have a better partner now, something I can understand very well! Scarey similar overlaps and I'm glad you are happy, you deserve it and gives us all hope! Esp me I need it right now 😞
Finally thank you for giving people like me hope that years on we will be happy too 😚
Ps we love Luke and you more now 🤣💖💐

Amazing journal share, life share! I have been there, then a cycle and there again, but knowing my direction now (Germany is my Detroit, at the moment, ugh, but am heading back to US in next couple weeks-thank God! ). Journaling for me is a must .I've been keeping journals for over 30 years, and at times, they have been the life vests keeping me afloat until I regain my strength to swim in the rest of the way, while at other times nothing more than nets for all my venting and rambling (often embarrassing, lol) ---and SO glad nothing got past the net. Hmm, I'm in a nautical mood, obviously, lol. I am very thankful that you took made a brave step to open up some of your journals for us. When you were reading from the 1st journal flip, I felt like a poem was uncovered. "If a sweater could warm my spirits, I would wear a thousand." Beautiful. Thank you! Angela :-)

The unbearable lightness of being. To feel insignificant, to want to make a difference and change the world. At a young age, we never realize that we matter, just by existing. We might never realize how we touch someone's life by just walking by. Sometimes, we get blessed by someone telling us how something completely insignificant we did, changed their lives. But usually, that doesn't happen. We all matter, we are all important, no matter how boring life might seem. Your video brings that all to light, so thank you for sharing.

I got so excited for such a long video and it was so awesome, thank you for sharing this with us all, that takes a whole lotta courage to do. You kinda hit my mentality about life spot on, it comes in chapters, and sure you're gonna have some crapy ones, not so nice ones, but they're chapters nonetheless and like a good book you don't want to skip over the harder chapters because you'll find some of the most important character development comes from there. Wow that got a bit out of hand lol, but yeah, you captured that idea really well here 💚 congrats on a really awesome video and one that took a lot of courage! xx

So many questions with very few answers. I love your explanation of, "all this energy and nothing to do with it." Journaling has helped me through so many times when my world was falling apart. I can relate to a lot of the challenges with moving to a new city and being in an unhealthy relationship while trying to understand who I am and why am I here. It's called a heating tool, but I used to use a hair dryer before I got one. As far as I can tell, they work the same :)

Do you ever type your journals?

Hey Tina! I LOVE Your videos! I was wondering if you've ever written a journal with the hope that people would read it? (future posterity, friends, or someone else)

    • @OverallAdventures
      @OverallAdventures  7 лет назад

Awesome question!!! Hmmm...no, I don't think I've ever written a journal hoping that others would read it. I have written letters to specific people for them to find later in life and I'm working on an art journal to share with you, but I've never written a whole journal for people to read in the future! That would be super interesting!

I live less than a mile from the Detroit. lived in about the same area my whole life. I don't see the desire to want to be here at all. I'd give any thing to live in a less congested area. The amount of people puts everyone on edge and defense

I lived on the river walk right by belle isle, but I feel you, it is definitely a tricky place to live. I felt on edge most of the time that I lived there, but I really needed to get out of New York, which is a whole different level of crazy/congested lol

I really do like your videos and think that you're being honest which is great BUT before you diss rap you should listen to it. It is all the things you talk about in your videos.. rap shouldn't become a stereotype because of what some of it is without actually listening to it. Rap is strong, meaningful, passionate, sad, hopeful, vulnerability. Some rappers are telling a story of their life, and what they have been through. Friends and family dying, because they get shot or overdose on drugs. Some rappers rap to express their creativity and fear for what they have seen and done. Rap is art. If you want to learn more about what rap really means then check out Moment of Truth - Gangg Star. Guru talking about how people wanted to take everything away from him and he fought back with his creativity and art. Keep Your Head Up - Tupac, he raps about how strong and amazing women are. Street Struck - Big L, raps about how rapping got him lout of the drug game and how messed up the crack game is. Sky is the Limit - notorious BIG the hook is inspirational and he raps about his life as a crack dealer and how rap got him out of that life. And the last one Tha Crossroads - Bones Thugs-and- Harmony, kindof hard to understand but they are talking about death, and how they are scared to die and be alone.

elena You said exactly what I was thinking. I hate when people place stereotypes about all rap because they heard one song. If you don't live the life of unicorns and rainbows, you are not going to rap about unicorns and rainbows.

Thank you for this comment and I probably should have clarified a bit more in the video- I definitely don't hate rap, I just struggled with it at the time because I was financially supporting my ex for his dream to be a rapper. I recently discovered this video about rap that I LOVE and thought you might enjoy

There is this Belgian musician that i love. His name is stromae and he does like rap ish songs mainly electronic ya know with a synthesizer. I love his music because all his songs have real, genuine, deep meanings behind them. In an interview he talked about how he loved rap music but felt like he couldn't relate because they are all about sex and drugs and stuff. He said that he doesn't live that kind of life so he felt distant from the lyrics. Anyway so he decided to make music with lyrics that everyone can relate to because his music is based on everyday things that a lot of us choose to ignore. Yeah so when she was talking about her bf wanting to be a rapper but she didn't like it i was just like hey i know a guy!
So search up 'stromae'. P.S: his songs are in french

I find myself wondering why you made this video, and that's not a criticism. I have journals like this but I would never share them like this unless there was some benefit that outweighed the very real potential cost. What motivates you to share your life on youtube in this way?

    • @OverallAdventures

I totally feel you and I SO appreciate this question and it is one that I think about a lot. It is a long answer, but for the shortened version, I value honestly/vulnerability. I believe in the power of exposing inner truth to create true connection between people. I think a lot about social media - is it bringing us closer together and farther apart - and in a way, I am experimenting with authenticity and truth via youtube. I'm not sure if it will work, but I feel as if I have to try. This is not to say that other youtubers are 'fake', it's more that if I'm going to try to make youtube videos, I want them to be as true to myself as possible. I hope that makes sense, but I can talk more about this in further videos
