    Try Saltines. They were a life saver for me! First thing in the morning, before your even get out of bed - eat 2 to 3 saltines (keep them on your nightstand). Also always have a pack in the car. Whenever you feel the slightest bit hungry or nauseous, eat 2-3 saltines. It's a god send!

    • @FloCreasy

      Saltines help me on my second pregnancy. The first pregnancy was easy. I didn't have any nausea. The second one I was nauseated the first trimester and then it went away. Then I had so much energy. It was unreal

  • @Cindycic2
    @Cindycic2 4 months ago +8

    The key that worked for me was to not let my stomach get empty -- basically, you want to 'graze'. Don't try to eat a large meal when you can eat; eat small meals more often. Saltines or dry toast in bed before you try to get up in the mornings also helped, as others have mentioned. One of the few liquids that would stay down for me was orange flavored Gatorade; just the orange flavor for some reason. Not sure why that one flavor worked, but it did. (I lost 14 pounds my first trimester, but after that, it was smooth sailing! 😊) Good luck! ❤

      Yep. My youngest is 13 and I had 3, back-to-back miscarriages before we conceived her. I was over-the-moon ecstatic about my pregnancy with her, but I was also so SICK, for 5.5 months, 24/7 unless I was asleep. I just had to think about getting through each day and praying I’d wake up one day and the sickness would be gone. Thankfully, that day finally did come, but MAN, it was HARD!

    I was so sick my first pregnancy 4 years ago; like laying on the couch all day every day barely able to work. Cold, fresh air whether sitting outside or going on walks helped. Eating saltine crackers in the morning, and pretty much the only dinner I wanted was banana bread at night. I felt bad eating very little but the baby takes all it needs and you just have to do the best yourself. I was vomiting and severe nausea until 20ish weeks and then some remaining nausea (but better) until 2-3 weeks postpartum. It was ROUGH. I was on the max dose of zofran I could be on every day to survive. I'm now pregnant with #2 just a couple of weeks behind Jessi and have thankfully been doing a little better this time around. Really just trying to keep at least a little something in my stomach is helping. Also, I second not wanting any sweets and only lemon water right now- it's so weird! It feels like this part takes forever, especially when you are feeling sick every day all day. I wish you the best of luck and you will slowly get there.

    Poor Jessi! I remember the morning-noon-and-night sickness, it’s truly awful! At least when you have a stomach bug, you feel a little better when you throw up, but it doesn’t work the same way with pregnancy. I craved olives and all things savoury with both my girls, but I couldn’t stand the thought of anything sweet, I couldn’t drink coffee or anything that I *absolutely love* (I’m a real sweet-tooth, too). With my son, it was the complete opposite! With all my pregnancies, I had nausea until well into the second trimester, with my third, it was every day. You just have to find what is good for you. Also, with both my girls, my fingernails and hair grew like crazy, and with my son, my fingernails were brittle and my hair was lacklustre, and I was absolutely exhausted! Like falling asleep at 7pm, when I was used to staying awake until midnight. I have heard that boys absolutely suck all the energy out of you during the pregnancy, and I totally believe that!

    When I was a medic and ER nurse, we used the little square alcohol wipes, and that seemed to help many women. Don't put it right up to your nose. Start about 3 inches away and move it closer until you can smell it, and then until your nausea goes away, and of course until we could get medicine into the body. Good luck ❤️💫

      I was just going to share this same information! The rubbing alcohol scent can help. It's so odd, but it's true. Also, if you encounter odors that trouble you, try putting on a N95 mask, like you might wear in a crowd or at the hospital. The strong masks also reduce odors.

    Hi! My partner and I have watched your food videos for a long time and love you guys! Over the spring/summer we were trying to get pregnant and it was going slow, so seeing that you had even bigger struggles, but kept persisting and stayed hopeful was inspiring! I recently saw that you guys are finally pregnant...and so am I!!! I think you are just a few weeks ahead of me so I am going back to watch some of your pregnancy videos now and they are so relatable! I am now at 14 weeks but this video about your 1st trimester video is SO similar to my experience!! Thankfully I have not had any vomiting, but feeling hungry, but too nauseous to eat was my life for several weeks!! I have also been craving lemonade like crazy! I hope things continue to go well in your pregnancy, and I look forward to your updates!! CONGRATS!!!

    I am an old nana and have 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. So I have a little experience with the pregnancy environment. For severe nausea, I found the good old reliable of nibbling on dry low salt saltine crackers helped with nausea. Just nibble, the baking soda in the cracker helps calm the stomach. Also, wear very loose clothing, nothing with elastic or belts. These are just old lady's suggestions. But who knows, might help some. Good luck sweetie. Keep reminding yourself of the final outcome. A true blessing to be coming your way!! Wishing you both lots of love. And a note to the little one, you be kind to your sweet momma, she loves you and is anxiously awaiting your arrival. 💖💖

      Why would feeling bad be related to the health of the baby.do you suggest that mothers that are not nauseous will have unhealthy babies. I did not vomit the whole pregnancy and there was nothing wrong with the baby.

    • @hannahthufvesson
      @hannahthufvesson 4 months ago +19

      @ViatureynaWhat I was told by my midwife and doctors is that the nausea is due to the levels of a hormone that quickly rises during pregnancy, and that's a really positive sign in a pregnancy. That there at least seems to be a correlation between nausea and a healthy pregnancy, but that's not to say that if you aren't nauseated that you will have a unhealthy pregnancy or baby. Instead it seems that the nausea depends on how high your original levels of the hormone were, if you already had higher levels you're less likely to get so nauseated. However, you want that hormone to increase, so in people with low levels to start with it's a great sign!
      Also, this person didn't insinuate anything. She just shared encouraging information that was shared to her by her doctor. It just seems like an unnecessary interpretation to me.

    Jessi, I feel for you. I lived on saltines and ginger ale for the first 3-4 months for both my kids. For my son ( first born) I lost 30 lbs in those first 3-4 months because I couldn't keep anything down but a few saltines and sips of cool but not cold ginger ale . When i was finally able to eat again I started out very bland and mild with dry toast, then scrambled eggs, then mashed potato to let my stomach get used to solid food again. In the end only gained about 15 lbs because I lost so much at the beginning. My son and daughter are 35 and 34 now and I wouldn't change a thing about the pregnancy experience. It sucked at the time but the minute that little one is put in your arms, the bad all goes away. Try the saltines but just little nibbles at a time and cool but not cold ginger ale. Cold is a shock to the stomach. So happy for you both.

    Also, Guys, I have a little bit of helpful advice. I used this during my pregnancies and it helped it a lot. My Dad was a doctor and he practiced for a time in Nigeria for a humanitarian project. He encountered a lot of malnourished people and children there. He learned to break up really tiny bits of popsicle and place them into the cheeks of his patients. He was able to bring people back around this way, just slowly chipping off pieces of something frozen and leaving it in their cheeks. The sugars and fluid gets absorbed into the soft tissue in the cheek and you don't actually have to swallow it to get great benefit from it. This worked incredibly for me too when I was pregnant.

    Saltines for eating, citrus and/or lavender scents for smell. They can help with calming and nausea. Citrus like orange and lemon can neutralize odors that usually bother the smell sense. Having babies isn't fir the faint of heart! You both are strong, youve worked hard for where you've gotten and you will get through all of this just great! You two are awesome!

    My doctors gave me boxes and boxes of alcohol swabs to sniff when I was nauseated with my cancer. I didn’t think there was anyway that would work, but it did help. But as long as the Orange works, I would do that. I just thought I would mention it in case the orange no longer works. You could also put orange oil in an infuser so that it continually helps control the smells. I do hope you get over the sick part soon!

    • @lunarfriday
      @lunarfriday 4 months ago +1

      Hold on, orange oil in a diffuser would be dangerous for the cat. It's fine for humans but cats don't have the liver enzymes to metabolize it, especially breathing it. You can ask your veterinarian about that and they will tell you. Keeping a fresh orange on hand is much safer for kitty.

    I felt so lucky I didn't have the nausea symptom while pregnant. But later on I didn't really escape it because the midnight heartburn gave me major nausea & then I had a terrible nasal drip in the 3rd trimester that gave me a crazy strong cough. Every now & then I coughed so hard I would gag to the point we didn't eat out at restaurants anymore because it felt so gross and unpredictable. The excess stuffy nose/nasal drip symptom thing I'd never heard about in pregnancy but it was the WORST.
    The 1st trimester tiredness is no joke too. We were putting together our will/trust at the time for the baby & I would without fail pass out after reviewing a single page of the legal paperwork. Took me forever to get through it!

  • @KristaAttwood-z1l

    I had very terrible nausea for 5 months with my first invitro baby. Like you, I had zero food cravings but had lots of food eliminations. The only thing I could eat for 5 whole months were, grilled cheese sandwiches, clementines and hamburgers (and I couldn't eat them all the time). BUT, I got pregnant in October and I learned quickly that I could keep down food I didn't think I could tolerate (only those 3 but even if I thought I couldn't eat), if I was cold. In Canada in the fall and winter I would get up in the morning, dress not quite warmly enough for the temperature and go for a walk. When my head was chilled, I could eat the food I had carried with me while I walked. I have no idea why it worked, but it kept me out of the hospital.

    I can totally relate to your experience because I was 8 years TTC and when I finally got pregnant I was so sick just like you are where nothing really helped. I was ecstatic to be pregnant but it was so rough being nauseated so badly. I would get hungry for certain things and ask for them but as soon as they were served to me I would gag and become so nauseated I couldn’t eat. I can remember wishing the entire pregnancy away and I actually was nauseated up until and including the delivery! I can tell you that as soon as she was born all of that seemed to just disappear. I hope for you this passes and soon but even if it persists try to enjoy your pregnancy as much as possible.

    Omg this is exactly what I went through in pregnancy for 2 months of 24/7 nausea that literally kept me up all night and hard to eat anything healthy consistently, especially after taking prenatal vitamins. The worst part is feeling so guilty about not eating the best you can and it being impossible, then the doctor tells you you’re not eating right and sleeping enough or doing the classes because you’re constantly ill. What we women go through in pregnancy is so much and truly under appreciated. Take care and don’t feel guilty about it.

    I had hyperemisis during my first pregancy and my maternity doc and multiple nurses all had the same reccomendations "if all you can eat is cheetos and sprite, then eat cheetos and sprite." "Calories in, is what matters most. Youre taking a prenatal with all the vitamins you and baby need and you will have many years to fill your baby with tonnes of nutrutious foods." "Eat whatever it takes to not end up in hospital on a feeding tube!"" That support really did help ease the shame i felt for only being able to tolerate junk food, and actually once i was eating more, i was able to tolerate and crave some healthier options too. But the hardest hurdle was pushing past the intial nausea to keep SOMETHING down. But i respect it if youre not comfortable with that! Just thought id mention it incase you had any of the same concerns i did back then ☺️ its all worth it in the end! And my junk food pregnancy baby is now a tall smart active healthy little boy! 😂

      Yup. I DID end up in the hospital , on TPN via a brachial PICC line, for my oldest son. And what sucks is the TPN smelled *awful*, which did not help the nausea at all! My OBGYN gave me the same advice, and ice cold coke and frosted mini wheats were finally the only thing I could keep down after 30 weeks. I didn’t have HG with my second son, had it again till 18 weeks with my 3rd son, and then again till 20 weeks with my daughter. Zofran did nothing for me, ginger was useless, rubbing alcohol made it worse… the only thing that helped were phenergan suppositories even though they made me pass-out level exhausted.
      Hang in there Jessi, I KNOW it sucks but I promise you it will all be worth it when you get so snuggle and smell the top of that baby’s head! 😂

      Former certified childbirth educator here, and I had hyperemesis with all three of my kids (to the point of being in the hospital on IV fluids for dehydration). I would sometimes vomit 30+ times in a day. Things that helped: keeping lemon slices in a baggie to sniff, seabands, prescription antinausea medication (Compazine, Phenergan, Tigan), and with my last one acupuncture. I have a son and two daughters, and it was just as bad with both sexes. When I was pregnant with my second, my 2 y.o. son would say, "Mommy coking!" When I was pregnant with my third, my 2 y.o. daughter would bring me an emesis basin, make a gagging sound and say "Do it!" Funny memories now but not so much then. Hang in there, and please don't feel guilty if you ever feel like you hate being pregnant. I know personally after loss, you want to embrace and treasure it all. But being grateful for the life within you doesn't negate any misery or discomfort you may experience.

    My morning sickness had specific triggers.
    Colgate toothpaste...I had to switch to Crest (which I hate the flavor).
    Raw fish (sight & smell). Cooked was ok. We lived in a very ethnically diverse neighborhood in Brooklyn NY. There were numerous fish markets around the corner.
    Body odor...and I had to take the metro in NYC. So many people on the train will mean body odor.
    The sight/sound of hawking and spitting...which is common in the culture of the neighborhood we lived in.
    Thankfully, it only lasted the first few months (~ 4 months ish) - other than the fish. Cooked/cooking fish was fine...only raw did me in. If we had fish for dinner, my husband had to buy it and prepare it while I hid in the bedroom.

    How perfect the heartbeat was on your grandmothers birthday! That’s a sure sign from her that she’s watching over you and baby, making sure all is going smoothly, just beautiful ❤️ As for the morning sickness, I had it pretty bad lasting most of the day, everyday, the whole way though both of my pregnancies, my son, also my rainbow baby was first and then my daughter 2 years later. I will add though that the ring test was correct for both, I craved ham, avocado, salad and savoury with my son and a lot more on the sweeter side with my daughter. Everyone’s different though, but health as you know, is all that matters. Just go with the flow and do what’s best for you. What a lucky baby to have such amazing parents, so very blessed. When I was pregnant with my second baby, we lived in an apartment next to a TINY elderly Balinese lady. She noticed my little belly, and probably also my haggard face. She knocked on my door and handed me a bag of green mangoes. She didn't speak English, and I didn't speak Balinese, but she patted my belly, and then motioned for eating. I understand what she meant. They actually worked! I could eat them and they helped my nausea. They weren't hard green, but nearly starting to get ripe. So they were very slightly sweet, but very sour, and crisp. If you can get a hold of green mangoes, try it! I hope you feel better soon! Pregnancy nausea really sucks. ❤️❤️❤️

    Oh goodness you may have hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). Just go have a quick read if you can look at your screen. Had for all 3 and it’s hard lol. Noises, smells, cleaners, toothpaste, movement, gargling, list goes on and on. It hits hard around 10 weeks. I wanted salty foods. I also got the little puke bags from Amazon and kept them on me at all times. Unfortunately I had to take the medicine because it was so bad. FYI the worse it is typical girl or twins, but again I had for all 3, 2 boys 1 girl, my daughter was the worse 😂. Don’t be hard on yourself, it’s hard growing a human. I suffered from morning sickness with all three of my pregnancies. The third was the worst. Sometimes ginger and lemon, non-carbonated drinks helped, but it was a struggle. One of my sisters-in-law used peppermint essential oil to combat her nausea. She kept a bottle of it with her & would sniff it whenever she felt it coming on & she said it helped tremendously. She also said ICED water helped. Room temp made her nausea, which was also my experience, but I didn’t think about adding ice. I just suffered through. 🤦🏻‍♀️
    I had to do what you talked about with the food. Whatever sounded good to me at that moment I would try. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. 😢 Hang in there. I pray it gets better sooner than later.
    Smells were a huge deal for me. I couldn’t wash dishes for awhile because the detergent made me nauseous. A had to get my husband a different deodorant; the one he had made me nauseous. 😂I had to smell all the deodorants to find the one that didn’t make me queasy. Unless you’ve gone through it, it’s hard for people to understand just how debilitating it can be.
    Oh, and I had a girl & two boys, so the nausea didn’t care what gender I was carrying. I did crave more sweets with my daughter, & more salty/spicy with my boys though.

First pregnancy, violent puking eventually throwing up blood, er visits to get iv fluids. My obgyn provided no help. Second pregnancy, same thing. Threw up all 41 weeks which was worse than the 1st pregnancy, but my obgyn prescribed me powerful antihistamines (can't remember the exact name). Kitty is having sympathy for Jessi, what a sweetie. During one of my pregnancies, my sweet kitty was also pregnant, she would lay in my lap with her belly against mine. I also had food aversions while I was pregnant, with each pregnancy it was different, with my boys they were aversions to meats, beef during my first , fish during my second, chicken during my fourth. During my third pregnancy - my daughter, it was broccoli. The sweet and savory cravings were true for me, to the point where when the first cravings hit, I knew the gender of the baby. I do agree that the nausea is worse when you don't eat. So maybe try little snacks, a handful or a small bowl of this or that, but definitely keep hydrated. One of my friends used those magnetic bracelets for her nausea, she said they helped some.

    I had brutal morning sickness for the first 3-4 months of my third pregnancy and my two sons, aged 2 and 3, were anxious about Mommy throwing up. I told them that the throwing up was because the baby was growing inside of me and that it was okay. Every time I pulled my head out of the toilet, eyes watering and nose running, I would find my 3-year-old standing right beside me, a serious look on his face, saying “It’s okay you’re throwing up, right Mommy? It means the baby is growing, right?”. That’s what got me through. They are 23, 22 and 20 now.

      I was sick like the whole time. A nurse told me that too. It means the hormones are doing what they are supposed to.

      This reminds me of my at the time 3-year-old daughter getting me a wet washcloth to put on my neck when I'd get sick. She also knew how to hand me my medicine if I couldn't do it myself.
      Children are incredible, aren't they?

    One of my friends who struggled with this problem used seasickness bracelets. You can order them online or buy them at a pharmacy. They really helped her, and they are inexpensive. They have little "beads" that push on acupressure points in your wrist that are supposed to reduce the unpleasant feeling. There is no medication involved, so it's safe for baby and it's great if it helps. I'm sending prayers and best wishes for better days ahead!
