Please direct question to my Facebook page Evolution Stoneware Pottery or email me through my website www.EvolutionStoneware.com. This is an instructional pottery video on how to throw and trim a spoon rest on the potters wheel by Janis Hughes in the Evolution Stoneware Pottery studio. I used 0.75lb of white stoneware clay in this demo.

Thanks for the video. I'll try this today. I second the comment about the lighting and cleanliness of your studio. Our studio is in our basement, so it's not always the most cheerful place to work.
Thanks again! I'll make a few of these as holiday gifts this year.
Thanks Adama. The best way to get started in pottery is to take a class if at all possible. It will help you so much to have a place to go that is fully equipped with clay, glazes, wheels, kilns, etc so you don't have to worry about figuring that logistical stuff out while you're trying to learn how to work with clay. Plus having an instructor there to help you in person is invaluable. Wheels cost over $500 new, and kilns over $1000! There are many local supply places plus mail order.
Nice video!! Looks like I found another project to make! Your buddy sure looks comfortable!!!
Giffin Grip?! I didn't know you have a Giffin Grip! Sweet! If I had one of those, I would start trimming instead of wiggle wiring all my bottoms.
@bvclay I'm so glad to hear your spoon rests are a hit!!! Thanks for taking the time to let me know - I appreciate it. :o)
Hi Janis, thanks for this video.
Hope you decide to make more, I enjoy your videos
Phil
@Gracepots Thanks for taking the time to drop me a note Phil! I appreciate it. I'm cooking up some more videos and hope to get a better camera soon.
@clearvision5 Thanks for the encouragement :) I have an idea for my next video and hope to start it in the next week or so. But my studio isn't nearly as clean at the moment...
@firepondpottery I hope the spoon rests were a success for you! I'm definitely lucky to have a cheery studio space.
Hi i loved your video, I’m new so I’m not sure if it was asked before but were you standing while throwing on the wheel? Is it any easier? Sometimes my back/neck aches from how I sit and was wondering if standing helps
Yes, I throw standing up to reduce back pain and have been throwing standing for at least 15 years. It has helped me so much, and many other potters do this as well. Many have asked me about it, so I made 2 videos about it. The first discusses the ergonomics of raising your wheel and how to figure out the right height. ruclips.net/video/eGlRpclmmVM/видео.html
The second is a throwing demonstration discussing how I position and brace my body to throw while standing.

I hope these help you! It's important to deal with your pain because it will get worse over time. (If the links don't work search for pottery ergo on my channel.)
this is very beautful
When using you gift and grip what do you attach to your troff?
@tresojos1 For this demo I used 0.75lb of white stoneware clay.
How much clay do you throw for each spoon rest?
I bet none of ya"ll notices hat beautiful dog in the background!! look to your right
Thanks pens! Let me know how it turns out for you :) My dog totally steals the show just by laying there in her bed!
How are you doing?
Hi Marcia, you are so sweet to ask. :) I've had some discomfort the last week, but it doesn't seem serious. I hope it will resolve on its own. It's a little tough not worry about a relapse when when I have a return of abdominal pain. But over reacting won't do me any good. I've tried to take it easy the last few days, & I'm starting to feel better.
EvolutionStoneware I’m pretty sure you going to be fine, 🤞I hope I will see you soon with a huge smile doing some pottery or playing your music, with is amazing.
When you get better if you are coming to Canada (Vancouver) I love to have you to visit 2 pottery clubs I’m part of . Maybe you can even give us a workshop in pottery and play some music to us ( my son will love that for sure, he is a musician just like you)Now I think that is a good reason to get better soon😜 Be positive and all good things will happen to you. Sorry my English is not that good I’m from Brazil Praying for you girl, be stronger
Huchehewy, I need a new pamper.
