    Hey all, thanks for all the comments! Re: downloading the code, the code is on github and its definitely fine for anyone to download and test it, but a word of caution that this is VERY barebones at the moment and i dont think it's suitable for use with the campaign yet. For example i dont think it plays nice with dialogue yet (i.e. you will get butchered in real time while the dialogue is happening). Just a word of caution!

      Oh also re: pause since lots of people are asking about that, I think b/c of the way I'm doing combat which is basically by forcing everything to remain technically out-of-combat, pausing should actually be pretty simple, I think it's just a matter of clicking the button to drop into turn-based mode. Not 100% sure this actually behaves the way you'd expect a NWN-style RTwP system to behave tho, I will have to mess with it and see

      An idea for that dialogue problem is, the combat can start off as turn based for the very first attack rather it's the AI or player. then transition to real time after.

    This looks amazing - except, as a lot people mentioned, enemies seem to attack too fast.
    You can see the enemy attack once at 0:17 and again at 0:20, when it should have taken 6 seconds between attacks (a full turn).
    I believe this is how it worked in NWN and BG - With multi-attacks still doing the same (if enemy attacks twice, it does every 3 seconds, if it attacks thrice, every 2 seconds). I really hope there is a way to implement this, with enemies & allies respecting their turn timer and not just being able to spam attacks whenever they can.
    Even if you cant, I still believe a pause function would fix 90% of the potential balancing issues this could have.

      Adjustable speed setting somewhere in options would be great. I.e. Full cooldown timings, half timings, quarter, etc and then whatever timing is on this video.

      The other thing to consider is at level 11 a fighter might do 4 attacks in one turn. How would that work here when a swing of a 2h might take 2s each?

      Yes, the enemies do indeed attack too fast! I'm just trying to get the core stuff working right now so I'm not focused at all on balance type things, but yes it is horribly imbalanced the way it is and one big contributor to that is the enemies attacking too quickly

      ​@@Midget9029 I'm not sure yet the best way to do it, but I think there's many ways it could be done. It might need to be condensed into a single multiattack that all strikes the same target, or it could be like eldritch blast in the video where you hit multiple targets that way. Prob will just need to play with it a bit and go with what feels best

      ​@Shutupayou nope. It's called real time with pause. Just like Baldurs Gate I and II. The main benefit is battles are over much, much faster and punchier, which means a dad like me who only gets to sneak away for 45 minutes at a time can get a decent chunk of action AND story completed before being interrupted by the small annoying ones.

      @@Shutupayou Nope, because even with pause actions are playing out simultaneously for all characters not in strict turn order. Pause just lets you get better control so it doesn't become about how quickly you can switch from character to character. As the other reply says, BG1 & 2 are RTwP games that work exactly in this fashion (also a bunch of other games in this genre).

    Oh my god this is actually really cool!!! One suggestion: if it would be possible to add support for quick bind eg: F1 F2 F3 F4 or 1 2 3 4 for spells that I believe would make even more to pull this thing off, more diablo like style for this wonderful game

    This looks awesome. If you pair it with the companion AI mods, then this could be a really fun way to play the game. Is there anyway to have a setting that can lower the enemies attack speed? Since the player has to manually input attacks, it puts them at a disadvantage, especially since the enemies seem to attack really fast.

      Ah, I'm still sorting all that stuff out -- this is a super super basic implementation that I just threw together this afternoon -- but def agree the attack speed is a bit much right now. Lots of details to iron out to make this an actually functioning combat mode...

      @@tinybike I assume it's the same. In DAO you can walk around and attack freely with a third person behind-the-character camera...But you can also pause to order commands to your party and yourself. I guess someone could play the entire game without pausing at all though if they're quick.

      It is impossible, prolly author wouldn't be able to achieve anything past this and balance would be broken, like he was only able to showcase it by being god-like OP to these NPCs, its unplayable and will not be playable.

      I don't think anyone thought it was "impossible". Just that the level design, enemies, companions, health, attack power, buffs/debuffs, etc are all tied to turn based. Not to mention it's a D&D game. It is possible, but it would ruin the game.

      @@farrel_ra yeah, they were designed to be played that way from the beginning. All those things I listed were designed to be played real time (with pause) for 1 and 2. Not converting from an existing turn based game

    I loved this feature if Pathfinder WOTR and when I played BG3 I was sitting there like..why no real time for us knife and bow people at least. I can't wait to try this for sure, great job!

    Subscribed. Holy! I'm only 23 and found myself playing BG1 AND BG2, games almost as old as I am, a few years ago and fell in love. I love BG3 and always knew I was going to go back at some point, and I know when now. Once this mod gets all fleshed out, I'm going to sink so much more time into that game. The turn-based combat works great, but sometimes just takes SO long, and this can speed things up drastically. I'm so excited

      Yeah speeding things up was a big part of my motivation for this! Originally I actually just wanted to improve Swarm AI, but it turns out Swarm AI is completely unmapped and undocumented and basically no one knows where it is or how it works, so

    I think with time this could be a really great way to play the game, especially for a third-person POV. The game actually looks really good played from over the shoulder camera angle, but obviously that's not a great angle for turn-based gameplay. Modding is simply awesome, new ways to play already great games is what makes PC gaming (despite all its annoyances) truly unique.

    Tip: increase spell and ability duration so that control effects keep impactful, also, aiming AOE should be made simpler cuz it usually takes a lot of time, like having the option to snap your cursor to targets when aiming.

    It is amazing. IIRC, in Neverrwinter Night 2 fight was quite dynamic, but also not so fast as here 😆, there was also turn-based combat, but turns for everyone happen on the same time, so during turn everyone has action

      I use the built-in ones 1-9 on the "custom" bar at the bottom -- it's nice in turn-based mode but essential in real time!

      Thanks! Idk how mods work for BG3 on consoles but this is 100% done in script extender, if that helps? So if you can run script extender, you should be able to run this

    This might actually be what causes me to pull the trigger and get the game. Not a fan of turn based games, would rather just play a board game then. Love RTS, and this looks like it can scratch that itch! Good job!

      Agree re: autoattack (or autoaim, autotrack, tab target, anything similar) for sure. And yeah you'd have to sort out AI for companions if running solo, or alternatively just pause combat a lot.     I really wish Larian would have implemented both combat modes. Basically in the base game when you use improved invisibility with stealth advantage and the cleric tricky ability you already are in real time combat

      @@tinybike maybe by making use of the turn based mode when outside combat and tricking the game to think we're not in combat. I am not sure.
      But if you manage to do that it will be one of the most popular mod.

    This looks incredibly promising. How you're gonna deal with all the target selecting? An increase in the hotbar with aiming improvement? Full automatic aiming? Gonna remove friendly fire?

      Tbh I'm not sure yet. I do think some kind of persistent targeting/autotracking might be needed. Or maybe just tab target selection the way e.g. WoW does it?

      @@tinybike maybe like dragon age inquisition did? There's a pause for certain abilities, which would be quite useful for spells using higher slots to cast and to cast anything you have to aim. Everything else that is point blank, the effect could be just automatic. The biggest trouble would probably be the huge amount of mods with spells that work way too weirdly. Removing friendly fire and going something akin to esometric action games could be a faster solution, if you were to ignore spells and cantrips that mostly serve as utility. Just have the cursor to aim and shoot a barrage of cantrips at anything that crosses it. Easier said than done, but just some random ideas I have no idea how you could implement. Tab targeting would probably be more complicated then having a proper hotbar implemented, since you could run into trouble getting the target you wish to. Maybe games like Titan Quest or even Grim Dawn could serve as some inspiration for you. Anyway, I'm eager to see what this mod will become. Good luck on your work, mate!     I can't believe it. A couple of days ago I was thinking how I couldn't enjoy BG3 that much because of the turn based system. Spend like an hour or so scouring the internet looking for a real time mod. Is there a way to donate money towards this ?

      e.g. an enemy used ranged attack while i am running away. would the ranged attack still hit me?

      Not 100% sure if this is true for all attacks but I think the way it works is, the distance calculation happens when the attack starts, so if you were in range when the attack started then it can still connect. So by moving around quickly and breaking LoS etc you can keep them from locking on and starting the attacks for sure. But I think once they start it, you might get hit!

    The whole reason why I couldn't stand to play the game was because it was turn based...

    I can't even tell what is happening. The truth is if the character was not overleveled, he would be overwhelmed by not being able to counter moves he can't tell apart from each other.

    is this like baldurs gate 1/2 where you can make a quick pause between each action IF you wanted to? it'd make a faster paced version of the game without the option of sacrificing too much. or you can choose not to pause, and go full real time.

      Ah this is the build I've been running in Trials of Tav, it's 18 Monk / 2 Warlock, charisma-stacking build focused on Eldritch Blast but still has the open-hand monk stuff as a backup. Has a very anime-ish feel to it, DBZ or something -- you can punch stuff, you use ki for stuff, but you do most of your dirty work with monster energy blasts :)

    It's a cool concept but i don't think there are enough encounters in the game to justify this being a fun way to play, not to mention thinking about certain fights sound like a nightmare, since the developers have made it so that you are always far outnumbered. Yurgir, defending the portal for Halsin, Gortash, Shadowhearts fight with the matriarch, and the encounter with Raphael stand out to me. I can't imagine these battles being fun, just dying pretty much instantly

    do companions attack automatically ? or do you have to tell them what to do individually

      Right now it's individual but I think it'd be cool to have them attack automatically. Still sorting out what's possible in terms of automating them. I know there are companion AI mods so that might be the way to go. If controlling manually (and not playing with friends) you prob will want to pause combat a lot to issue commands!       You can grab the code from github (github.com/tinybike/Brawl ) if you want, but I haven't packaged it up and put it on nexus or anything yet -- it's still super raw and I wouldn't want to do a release in its current state

    Just by this footage is obvious how impossible it would be to rework BG3 into RTWP, well unless you are playing with god mode cheats.

      It def will need some rebalancing. I'm not worried about balance rn b/c just trying to sort out if the core of this thing works fundamentally. Balance def not a showstopper tho. You can always just pause!
