  • The latest BYD model to land on NZ's shores is the Seal sports sedan. It carries on with their aquatic theme but this dual motor performance EV is crazy quick.
    Thanks for watching, we'd appreciate a like and subscribe.

    There is a switch below the drive selector to set the regen to standard or high. All our models in Australia and yours in NZ come with a 2 piece removable sun shade for the moon roof.
    I have the same model and shark grey colour on order but have gone for the optional ocean blue interior colour that's available in Australia.

    Good review gentlemen.
    I nearly bought a Seal. I had one on order across the ditch. I probably would have gone with the AWD, even though the RWD was plenty powerful.
    Unfortunately, I had to cancel my order due to the low clearance of the Seal. Reviewers haven't really picked up on its fairly low clearance.
    On my steep driveway into my carport there was only an unusable 2 centimetres clearance between the concrete and the front edge of the bumper - in an unladen car. I was guaranteed to scrape the bumper. Speed humps and other driveways would also be problematic, and damage would only be a matter of time.
    We also have an Atto 3 so was expecting two BYD's in the carport. Not to be!
    I've ordered a Tesla Model 3 LR AWD which has 4 centimetres more clearance on my driveway. I've driven both the Premium and Performance Seals and was quite happy with both although the Performance felt better - not just because of the increased power.
    I've also driven the RWD Tesla Model 3 2024 and the Tesla is a little better in its driving dynamics. Not hugely better, but better, nonetheless. No slight delay when pressing the accelerator and I really like one pedal driving, which hopefully BYD will bring with a software update.
    The Seal - like the Atto 3 is quite "talkative" with all the pinging and nagging. Hopefully BYD will iron some of these out with OTA updates.
    Anyone considering a Seal, please be aware of the low(ish) clearance and whether you can cope with this. Buyer's remorse is not something you want. I reluctantly canceled my order. Although I've now recovered and looking forward to a Tesla. 😉
    The Premium demo with under 600k's at the dealer already had numerous scratches and scrapes under the front lip of the bumper, where drivers had bottomed out. A more serious crack would be serious dollars to repair.
    The camera system is great on the Seal, although you will need to purchase the front camera and fit it behind the rearview mirror housing to enable the dashcam. It's already in the Atto 3 - Go figure! Not available from BYD which is also interesting. Plenty info on the web and a few youtubers for this installation.

      @@TarmacLife haha, there's always the luckier one in most. Truly an impressive vehicle the Seal is. Only issue for me is it's height off the ground. Definitely considering one as I'm definitely not buying a car with indicators on the steering wheel 🙄.

    For a relatively small sedan, I reckon the claim of 3.8s comes with caveats, i.e. no passengers, weight limit, etc...

    • @jspanga
      @jspanga 3 месяца назад +3

      Comparatively less caveats than 90% of other standard cars I'd say.. 390kW of power and 670nm of torque means the limiting factor is more likely the wheels. It's got oodles of grunt to haul heavier loads at decent acceleration still - again, comparatively speaking.
