A point I would have brought up is:
    Is there any passion involved?
For me personally, any creative field is pointless to tackle, if you have no passion for it. If you only choose 3D animation because of a career aspect or whatever, this might already be the starting obstacle you can hardly overcome. If you wanna go for 3D, it shouldn't be for the reason to do 3D, it should be for the reason because you want to create stuff, that is otherwise impossible to create.

Some people are probably wondering. What if AI can soon replace 3D designers and artists? Is there any point in spending time learning skills that may not be in demand?

    • @positv_
      @positv_ 6 месяцев назад +5

when we use AI, we will become passive recipients, if it comes to everyone without any skills
a person will want to generate models, movies, music, etc. by only entering commands, this will result in an overabundance of content that leads to the viewer being bored and lacking purpose. A life that is too easy and devoid of challenges causes people to feel empty and depressed. Let us remember that what we learn is ours and our goal in life is to improve ourselves, if we deprive ourselves of purpose, life loses meaning, so it is worth learning to set an example for others. Moreover, projects are being created that limit the use of AI in creative and artistic work.

AI pretty much means free stock assets, you still need skill to work with them and a solid sense of art to determine whether they fit your project or not.

This is great, thank you Josh. I appreciate the well thought out encouragement here - decide the career objective, then work out what that audience wants, then create content/designs thag they would see value in, then find the most practical and achievable steps to begin that journey , while having someway to track your progress.
I think your title probably set some people up for a negative framing of this video- and perhaps you could say for this “stuck on pursuing a 3D career”

Exactly what I'm going through now. I'm doing the work but no bites. But I've talked with a few people and got me to realize I'm not putting myself out there. So, using LinkedIn as a metric and posting my work there (and on other platforms), I've learned it's not what I'm putting out, but what people are interested in. For example, I'm 3D modeling a HQ for a IP superhero of mine and out of all the watch models, product models, and simple animations, that non-completed, in progress, superhero HQ got the MOST impressions (like engagements) out of everything I've done...and it's a personal project. People seen all the cosmetic products; they want something new and exciting. And yes, tracking your progress is needed or otherwise how would you know what you're doing right/wrong. And to add to the video, don't be afraid to engage them first. Talk to them, see what they think/what their needs are in 3D (if 3D work is what they are looking for). Never know unless you try. Great video, Josh. Amazing how a 3D modeling channel can help so much more in the topic of improving one self than a actual Blender 3D tutorial.

Switched from Blender to Unreal Engine about a year ago. I still use Blender for small things here and there, but I would never go back. Blender vs Unreal Engine for me was a no brainer for one simple reason. With Blender when I'd try and find an answer to something I didn't know how to do, I could find the answers, but I couldn't always comprehend them. Where as with Unreal Engine finding answers was a bit of a challenge at times, but I ALWAYS could understand, so as a result I would always continually progress forward. I've tried going back to Blender from time to time, but my view of it at this point is just jaded. So I quickly quit and just continue to use it for touching things up and then exporting them to Unreal.

i am just figuring out how to watch ur videos (product and hard surface modeling) in order. if you make a series of videos on hard surface modeling, summarize some poly theory and add your examples, that would be better for us to follow. btw, for blender learners, they might be into vfx , animation, or some other parts. every instructor has its own part.

@ddontyy I agree with you! It really seems that they (both) are good in hard surface modeling but I was never able to see a tutorial going from modeling through uvunwrapping and texturing with Substance Painter, Mari or whatever. Only using their MaterialWorks addon which produce only gray in gray results. I never saw a colorful model of them.

    • @gabrielegagliardi3956

I dont think art students are above them after one year, I've seen a lot of graduates with terrible/amateurish portfolios, that said their texturing is pretty weak. Their material add on covers only a very small percentage of circumstances and the final result is always the same. Grey. I also think that the add on is really really overpriced. Ryan King sells 192 node materials for 75 bucks, he always adds new materials, the quality is superior and cover a much broader material spectrum. Blender bros: 97 dollars for 50 materials. On artstation you can buy 20/25 really high quality smart materials for 6.99. Stagnant is the perfect word for Blender Bros, i don't see any differences in the models made 2 years ago and now, the texturing is the same, the shapes are the same, you can clearly see primitives everywhere with some hard ops boxcutter boolean cut here and there. That workflow is good and useful but very limited. At this point i don't even know if they are capable of modelling something like a ps5 controller. Thomas Colin 3d, Pzthree, Aryan, MasterXeon and countless others are much better modellers, and for much better i mean they are incredibly proficient compared to bb. Are BB bad in general ? No, i think they are good for beginners and are also the only ones explaining some add ons here on youtube, but they have a lot to learn themselves.

Somehow this stuff is more for advanced people.
    Im still at beginning stuff.
So the lowest hanging fruit is "doing blender in general" and the fix is "stop it"
Im over 40 years old, only have spare time on the weekend (for everything, which includes household stuff), so Blender progress is out of the window entirely.
Im a looser and one-star-reviewser, there is nothing to fix it.
I can focus more on videogames which give me way more progression than trying to learn something, which I just cant learn anymore (and dont have the time to).
I wish you all a good day.

This video made absolutely no sense. Your premise was "the reason you aren't progressing in blender", yet you ended up talking about a vague idea of getting more attention for something. Getting attention for art on social media has nothing to do with someone's progress in blender.

Why do all of your video titles tell us that we suck? They are never things like "Ways to learn to progress faster in blender." No they are always like "Ten reasons you suck at 3d" I know its a small thing to worry about but its implanting the thought of doubt and negativity in people's minds.

It's a marketing strategy, but I think it works with crypto or financial scams not with something that has a much more slower learning curve. For example if you convince someone to give you 5000 dollars because "your life sucks" is one thing, but 3d modelling, learning how to play piano, or other slow activities has nothing to do with "you suck". You simply didn't put enough time or you are a beginner, that's why you suck, which is perfectly normal. Is like going to a 16 years old learning how to drive "you suck at driving". Does it make any sense or it is only bad taste ? You suck if you don't practice, end of story, if you are a beginner you automatically sucks and as a teacher you don't need to repeat it over and over again in your videos.

Why the f@ck should I even share my work? I use Blender to make the things I need. For my amusement and sometimes for others, for free, even if they are multimillion euro companies. Nicest thing I ever made. A reconstruction of a 19th fireplace from 2 broken tiles. Involved was photogrametric scanning, retopologizing 2 scans into on file, scaling the file for loss during the baking of ceramics, turning the file into a hightfield for printing on the most advanced 3D printer known to men (Eiger project). A ceramist created 110 tiles from the mold using the same Tiglien clay as was used for the original. My name is not even attached to the project. But I know the fireplace will (now) endure the centuries (or until we collectively decide to blow up the world).
