Another great video Matt, thank you! Intrigued about the new intro but please keep a few nods to the original, for the OG fans, it's a classic - Happy New Year!
Matt, thanks for all your useful videos and tips, my self and the family really enjoy your travels. I did watch one of your videos recently where you compared the perks for different BA loyalty card holders. In addition to the ones highlighted I wonder if you have ever used the PressReader app, we are regular travellers and I make sure ever time I pass a BA lounge I stock up on the free magazines, books and papers. This is a considerable savings given the price of hard copies. Over the year I must save several hundred pounds and to boot have plenty to read on the flight, at our destination or even at home. Keep up the good work and we look forward to your travels in 2024.
Thanks - interesting point.... I make a joke about magazines in next week's video - not something that will probably appeal to the kids! But there is value there for sure!
Merry Christmas Happy New Year Happy Easter Happy Halloween. Look forward to seeing the new intro! I'm no expert so can't give advice on it, but can't wait to see what you come up with!

Hi Matt, I don’t love the intro either but I would probably like to still somehow have the country and airmile count included if that is possible! And have a very Merry Christmas!!!!
Merry Christmas Matt. I suffered exactly the same fate with mine and my wife's Kris flyer points. The expiry dates were extended during Covid but we didn't have any flights for a year or so afterwards on which we could spend them as we were visiting European locations. My wife asked me to use the points before they expired on buying her a bag but similar to your experience, the postage to the UK trebled the total cost so I abandoned the shop. I've couriered an item from Singapore to the UK cheaper! I wonder why they offer the service when they do all they can to deter anyone from using it. Hardly the Singapore Air customer service that I've been used to.
@@MattsPlanet Route 66 in May is eating up the majority of my holidays, but I should be able to squeeze in a trip towards the end of the year. Plenty of work travel around Europe now as things return to normal.

Great stuff! How about a video some day explaining how to find out which fare class we’re actually booking. And will it earn tier points or not. I mean for non BA One World airlines.
Thanks... Interesting idea - the airlines usually don't make it easy! I've talked about it indirectly a few times but I've put it on the video idea list.... In case you're wondering, what I usually do is recreate the fare I'm looking at in ITA Matrix and when I line up the fares you can see what booking code you're being offered
@@MattsPlanet Thanks! My flights have to be booked with our corporate travel agent. And I don't find out or appreciate which fare class I got until I find I don't qualify for tier points or am denied lounge access.
Intro: "I'm Matt. I've lived on a trillion planets in the known Universe, they were all crap, and I'll save you the bother and expense of going there, by doing it for you." 🙂 It might depend on the airline, but CX 350-900s don't have a dedicated dunny for PE, the -1000s do. It really makes a difference on long haul flights. I did BKK-KUL-TPE and back as a run on MH (HKG has lower TPs). I'd been to Taipei for work. It's a bit challenging, but it works. Beware that MH is dry on shorter hops, such as BKK-KUL. Merry Christmas, with any luck, I'll see you in a lounge.
Thanks Peter and Merry Christmas to you and yours too! Like the idea of that intro but I don't want to give away my extra-planetary origins.... Top tip about MH too!

I've done it, but I live near LHR. The funniest thing I did was take the night bus to Northfields for the first train to T5, snoozing on the sofa after the flight the evening before. Merry Christmas Matt; I have enjoyed your vids throughout the year. Big benefit for me was getting Amex card last Jan; spending 10k to earn the 75,000 airmiles and companion voucher. Once reached required airmiles for flight to Florida I downgrade Amex card for prorata refund against £250 initial cost. Flights now booked for next May for £1600 (taxes and charges for two business class seats - a healthy saving of £3,400). So Thankyou for the helpful and entertaining advice. Cheers, Brian
Mate, urgent correction for your AMEX comparison. AMEX Plat has UNLIMITED Priority Pass lounge access - £650 (plus other goodies! ) AMEX Gold has 4 lounge passes - £190 (1st year free) Changes a bit the results, depending on travel patterns😊.
Merry Christmas Matt... I too have been looking at the Sri Lankan run as part of my latest TP strategy but can never find the £800 return deal originating from CGK. Plenty of returns out of AUH, but never the other way around.... Have you ever found it originating from CGK? I too can confirm the deals out of Taipei...I'm doing both Jakarta and KL runs from there on Cathay and Malaysian in February...very good value, but pick your aircraft wisely avoiding MH's 737 where possible and CX's regional config wide bodies (the main reason I chose Jakarta instead of direct to Bali) Was just hoping for a SriLankan run for a couple of days from CGK to trigger Gold in between 😆 Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Thanks James - that super fare only works out of Abu Dhabi sadly - much more expensive the other way round.... I have been told that SriLankan has a sale on too which can get the price well under £800 - but you have to start in AUH... Some of those Cathay flights have terrible timings too - I liked Taipei as they were good flight times
Merry Christmas Matt! For the intro, just one point - the general audio quality of your current videos is vastly superior to the intro. The intro feels (and sounds) like a relic from the past, which is just a reflection of how much the AV quality and your on-camera presence has improved over these few years!
Merry Christmas, Matt. Interesting video. P.S. I see that Singapore Airlines is starting services from Gatwick in June. Not quite as convenient as Lydd, but another option for East Kent people.
Happy Christmas Quite a technical Xmas rendition, but most interesting. On Amex, you kept saying Credit card...did you mean Charge card - as there is a Platinum Credit as well.
Happy Christmas to you too! I think I'm right in calling it a Credit Card - Charge cards are quite a rarity these days.... I'm happy to be corrected (and I'm not 100% sure of the difference!!!) but I think these Amexes are all credit cards these days....
Merry Christmas and happy new year, my friend. With regards to the intro, I would rather not have to watch one at all, if I'm honest. I would include that info in the description or the ABOUT section instead, but I really don't mind either way.
Thanks for your videos Matt... very helpful and interesting! I too have had issues with Iberia turning down my very justified claims for compensation. In September we were delayed by 18 hours on a relatively simple flight LGW-MAD-ALC due to the late arrival of their plane from Madrid (only announced as we were due to board!). It was a saga involving missed connections overbooked flights, but we basically lost almost a whole day of our 5-day trip! Anyway, the default from Iberia seems to be "it's not our fault - no compensation" and they make it almost impossible to find out how to appeal once they have knocked you back initially. Can you shed any light on how to appeal their decision? Thanks in advance. Mark
Iberia will be part of a dispute resolution service - BA is in CEDR - and you can lodge an escalation with them. I don't know which one Iberia is in and the language issue may be a barrier, but that's the process.... I'd go back to Iberia though and dispute their rejection - they denied me at first but when I showed I knew something about the topic they took me seriously and agreed the claim quite quickly
Hi Matt, have just booked this trip so I can achieve silver status, as already have 140 tier points, booked for 25th January, £805 for the trip, hope the information helps
I used to put 20 seconds on the end to provide a backdrop for the end cards but stopped doing it when I read that it hurt retention as people just click away... You may notice I'm trying to get out of the videos a bit quicker these days too for the same reason.... As I say, the intro is there to establish credentials but so many of my viewers are familiar with me these days, that may indeed be redundant... Thanks!
Merry Xmas Matt, im very new to your channel, love the Tier point run, Abu Dhabi to Jakarta, Did you book it as 4 separate flights? Or just as 1 business class return, cheers. Jim
Welcome Macca! It's one combined return flight from Abu Dhabi. Buying the 4 flights separately would be outrageously expensive!!! I used the SriLankan website to book
Hi Matt, could you use the Singapore Airlines voucher as part payment for a flight with one of their codeshare partners for a European or UK flight booked through the Singapore website?
Hi Matt, enjoy your content but want to ask a slightly unrelated question if you don’t mind. I’m currently using the BA Blue AMEX card and closing in on the companion voucher, I was wondering though if you think it’s worth just paying the annual fee and upgrading to the platinum card, thus qualifying for the better voucher?
Thanks! Most people would say that the blue card voucher isn't very valuable, although it is free.... But economy redemptions can be poor value - you can often find a cash fare a day or two either side of a redemption date which costs virtually the same as the cash you have to pay as part of the redemption.... I think the premium Amex gives 1.5 avios per pound (versus 1 for the blue card) so if you have a large throughput the premium card may pay for itself anyway....
Hey Matt. I’m getting quoted £8 + CV + 134k avios return Jersey to Larnaca or £8 + 184k avios without the CV. Is a CV worth the 50k avios (£500 approx )in your opinion please? Thanks
Ouch! I'm not matt but that's a terrible use of avios when compared to cash fare (I'm seeing around £600 each in CE), even with the CV, you will not get the target 1p per avios and could be getting triple to quadruple for long haul premium cabins.
That's not terrible value... Better opportunities are out there but it depends on your travel patterns... A valuable redemption in the bank is worth two down the road, especially if you're travel patterns make it difficult to grab the better redemptions
I think your intro its good but maybe a little less serious voice and add “I’m here to share with you what I’ve learned” instead of sub you might pickup some hacks 🤷
Merry Christmas Matt, thanks for the advice & entertainment throughout the year. I can’t help but notice on the shelf above the Russian dolls there appears to be what looks like a dummies book ( or is it a for muppets book 😊) being that you appear to be a very intelligent guy & me not so I was wondering if it indeed is a dummies book what area are you not so proficient in ? Thanks Madds 🎅
Good eyes! Its London for Dummies... There's also a Nikon D90 for Dummies back there too! Both bought by my ex-wife... Although there is a tremendous amount that I am not proficient in so there could be a lot more back there!
Why don't you redeem that Singapore Airlines voucher on an inter-EU 5th Freedom flight. Could even do the Barcelona/Milan route, be a fun little trip there! 😃You could put that towards your Star Alliance Gold as well!
There’s some good business fares on cathay from SE Asia to Seoul usually but you gotta book way in advance. Japan is always expensive and Cathay themselves have said prices will remain high for at least another year. 😢 nice update video and happy NY to you too 😂
Thanks! I'd have to check but I don't think HKG-SEL is a 140 tp route - those Sapporo fares were really handy for the tier points! Trying hard to get on Cathay - just seen on HeadforPoints that they have a new seat coming this year so perhaps I should hold off a little longer...
oh what seat is that? I've tried their business class a couple of times and that was fun, but honestly I love their premium Econ too! Had a really good sleep once on a long haul haha@@MattsPlanet

@@MattsPlanet tricky upgrade to better cabin as we are a 4 person family so need 2xCV to book us all in business
I think your intro its good but maybe a little less serious voice and add “I’m here to share with you what I’ve learned” instead of sub you might pickup some hacks 🤷
Thanks George - noted!

Merry Christmas Matt- thank you for your continued content! Jon (not Jeb, I just hide behind my initials!).All the best
Thanks Jon and a Happy New Year to you!
You might be on to something there!
@@MattsPlanet Grab a cheap budget airline flight either side or two extra BA flights towards your OneWorld status- make something out of it 👌
There’s some good business fares on cathay from SE Asia to Seoul usually but you gotta book way in advance.
