Keyless entry to a sliding patio door? I hacked an August smart lock to work w/ a sliding door! (v2)

v2, now with door handles! :)
I've always wanted to be able to walk out my back patio door and lock the door behind me. My lock never had a key but I also didn't want to have to deal with a key. After Googling and calling locksmiths, it seemed there were no viable out of the box solutions. So here's my hack using an August retrofit deadbolt lock on a vinyl sliding patio door.

I just ordered a chamberlin garage door electric deadbolt to try to hack into a smart lack to do teh same thing but from the top or bottom of the door.

did you look into the wyze smart lock? seems to work the same way, only question is if it will fit in the small space of a sliding door frame.

What happens if the batteries die, how do you get in? Assuming the sliding door is the only entrance, which in my case it is.

The app will give you warnings that the battery is low well in advance.
