I'm a single guy that had never baked bread in my life and I was watching Christines videos where she makes her no knead bread. She made it look so easy and it looked so good that I went out and bought the ingredients and the loaf tins and gave it a shot. It was good and it was really simple to make. So as they say if I can do it then you sure can as well.

I'm a minimalist and have a stockpile of food! It's a huge priority for me. You never know when something will happen that makes buying food difficult, like extreme weather, job loss, etc. And I love that I always have enough ingredients to whip up a meal or dessert without having to run to the store.

For anyone reading, another emergency/disaster preparedness thing that's relatively inexpensive but GREAT to have is some kind of portable toilet, liners for it, and litter to help absorb fluid and smell. Even the simple buckets with the toilet seat lid attachment are better than nothing if for whatever reason the toilets or septic/sewer system have been compromised. You're already stressed out enough in a difficult situation like that; the last thing you need is MORE stress worrying about how and where you're going to tend to bodily functions. Having a designated safe and sanitary place to go and a way to keep yourself and your loved ones clean and healthy is so so important when curating these prepper stockpiles. 👍

Speaking from experience, a spouse losing their job is very stressful. Having food storage is very comforting! We know we won't go hungry. When I buy food, I write the expiration date on the can/package with a sharpie so I can easily see it. Once or twice a year, I go through the food and pull out anything over a year old. Then, I put it on the kitchen counter and we focus on making meals to use all that food up so it doesn't go bad. With food in the chest freezer, I pull older things out when we defrost the freezer and stick it in the refrigerator to use right away or I put it in the freezer part of my refrigerator so it is more "in my face" and I remember to use it up. Also, always stock up when things are on sale. Don't pay full price when you are building a food supply. Try to be realistic how much food you should buy before it expires. Love your vlog Christine! I felt bad for you when Clutterbug was putting down the idea of stocking up. You handled it with grace!

I honestly feel bad for you people. You’ve been brainwashed to be so scared of the world that once a year you have to eat old gross canned and jarred food. So gross. It’s been 20 years since I ate anything in a can or jar. Shelves should only have ingredients to make fresh food. Not stored prepped food. I couldn’t imagine eating like this.

Thank you for this ❤ I live in Christchurch, in New Zealand and survived more than a week on emergency supplies with my husband and then toddler son as well as my sister, her husband, their two kids and puppy in our very small first home (only 2 bedroom!) as my sisters house was badly damaged during the massive earthquake we had here in 2011. We had damage to our house and the whole city had no power, water, or plumbing. No shops were open, there was no medical centres open except the one major hospital which was dealing with serious injuries only and still having to transfer people to other cities. After ten days we managed to get on flights to stay with family at the other end of the country (and finally see a doctor for my cracked ribs🎉). I thought we were pretty prepared before that but I have become so much more organised since then and I really encourage people to get what they think they will need - and then just a bit more… if you ever actually need it you will be thankful. If a situation ever comes up and you do need it the last thing you need is to feel even more stressed as you watch the food supply shrink. I love these videos so much ❤❤❤

We also eat the same 10 meals in rotation and my family doesn’t like new food. My toddler hates sauce anything wet he will not eat currently. Also my kids prefer fresh fruit. Awesome Tips as usual!! Since the early 60's I learned that we start "preparing" for Hurricanes/Tornadoes here in West Central Florida, and start buying a few extra canned goods & water every week at the beginning of February. As I became an adult, I decided to always keep at least two weeks of food stashed. Spring storms all over the US can also be Horribly dangerous and Frighteningly destructive to the grid.

You honestly cannot have too much food. Extra supplies are good to have also. Get them when you can find them on sale, clearance before prices keep going up or before shortages. If there is something i dont like to eat, if thats all there is to eat, then i will eat it and not starve. I have never fixed beans from scratch but i have dry beans in my pantry. Nothing wrong about that. Spaghetti O’s is a go to thing for my grandkids. They love them. Cold or heated up, they dont care.

I'm disabled, live alone and don't drive, so if I have a symptom flare up I might not be able to walk to get groceries. My parents live nearby and I know they'd gladly help but 1) I like being independent as much as possible, and 2) if they're on holiday at the time or they catch a sickness bug or something then I'm stuck. Having extra food set aside is a huge comfort.

I am there with you with Chef Boyardee🤢 but the Thrive brand Salsa is the best! And like you have said, only what your family eats, not anything else when building a prepper pantry. When our children were home, we kept at least 6 months of shelf stable products at all times, being empty nesters we now have built up 1 years worth of flours, oats, potato flakes (we live near grain and potato processing plants that sells the flours and potato flakes in 50lb bags that we did 5lb vacuum sealed bags with oxygen absorbers in each bag and then placed in food safe buckets with screw lids). It’s a learning curve and we did start slow and have refined what we keep stocked now. Keep up the awesome videos!

When & if ppl are ready, they can start gardening, too, & learn how to spend $10-$20 on seed packets, & end up w/enough veggies to fill dozens of mason jars w/fresh, organic veggies. Those jars & rings are an investment for several generations, just as a pressure canner is, but you can water bath many things, & that requires just a big pot w/a lid, & something to keep the jars from touching the bottom. I know in parts of Europe they use wash cloths. Normally, ppl use an inexpensive metal strainer, often in a kit w/other helpful canning items. Ppl here & there used to water bath everything, but our USDA recommends using a pressure canner for certain foods due to health & safety concerns. Nevertheless, you can waterbath tomatoes, sauces, salsas, strawberry jam, & so much more! After one yr, you'll have all the jars & rings, & will just need lids, & what you can from growing food is essentially free, minus the cost of seeds. The work needed to garden is exercise, which we all need anyway, & kids/grandkids can help + it's good for them (teaches values, such as patience, strong work ethic, following directions, importance of exercise, & self-sufficiency for a lifetime). When you grab a jar of something you grew, you also know it's far fresher than a store bought can, & you know what's been put on it (all be chemical free). You know what your family is eating, where it's from, & that it's good for them. There's no better feeling when we're all concerned about what's genetically engineered crap in our food! We do both - canning & buying cans bc then it begins to add up to 6mos, a yr, 1½ & then 2yrs. It also provides a feeling of security, which is priceless. It's a food savings acct you know is there no matter what may happen - serious illnesses, future lockdowns, job loss, catastrophic weather, food shortages, EMP, economic collapse, war, etc. It's the responsible thing to do bc these are possible realities. I hope anyone who doesn't know how to garden will consider giving it a try. And, if you don't garden, consider canning fresh food from the farmer's market or a local farmer, & support their efforts vs making corporation executives richer:)

I call myself an accidental prepper. Living in rural eastern Washington, winter weather is a concern, especially as we age. I have friends that live more remotely and they stock up each fall. I decided to copy them and did that each winter. When my SO and I got sick and had to quarantine early in 2020, the only thing we had to ask others to pick up for us was bread (we asked for soda too as a treat). But that was it. That turned me into a more “complete” prepper. No zombie apocalypse preps, just a large well stocked working pantry that should see us through any likely scenarios. Nothing against SHTF preppers, but that just isn’t me at this stage of my life.
Today I wouldn’t need to ask for anything, I’ve adopted and adapted your no knead bread recipe. I like a hearty bread so substitute 1/2 cup whole wheat flour for 1/2 cup of all purpose flour and add a couple of table spoons of my home vegetable powders to add more nutritional value. I haven’t purchased bread in months. What DO they put in sandwich bread to keep it soft for literally months?
Some hard learned lessons; things change and if you find you don’t need what you stocked, share it. Shortly after stocking up an a bunch of carbs, my SO changed his diet. There is no way I’ll go through all of our stock in a timely manner, a family member with a houseful of teens got a lot of ramen, the local food bank got a bunch of breakfast cereal. As I inventory periodically, a few things make it to the local food pantry, before their expiration dates if I know I won’t use them.
I am a clutz, if I were to stack cans each time I tried to add to them I would knock them all down. I had some see through totes, I use them ( and added a few more) to store my canned goods and write the earliest expiration date on the outside of the tote with dry erase markers. It makes inventory and keeping on top of expiration dates very easy for me.
I also home can some meat (I don’t want to be totally dependent on electricity). I have drug home some free curb side file cabinets and that is what I store my home canned (in glass jars) items in, figuring there is less chance of things falling off of shelves. I hope these ideas help others, but as you say, adapt your pantry to your family and your needs.

I have some flashlight/ radios that are hand crank. They were useful during hurricane Sandy. You don't need to worry about batteries and they aren't hard to crank. I have two that are just flashlights and one that is flashlight/radio combo. I also have some solar powered phone chargers. Useful for camping and emergencies.

Signs went up on my nearby discount grocery store, it’s being torn down to build condos. The other local options have prices twice as high, so this is very timely!

I have always lived in the NYC area where weather is rarely an issue. Even 9/11 didn't get us down for long. I would keep some canned goods and bottled water and stock up on good sales, but that was it. And then Covid hit and, wow, were we in trouble. We didn't just have shortages, stores closed completely for a month or more. I actually had to "shop" at Omaha Steaks because that was the only food I could get, and my budget is still recovering. Our coat closet is now a full on food pantry. It's not like we need coats anymore with global warming. It's already hit 90 degrees IN APRIL. Time to start a tank top and ice pop storage. Thanks for all your tips. They are helping a lot.

Broke lunch box meal. Vienna sausage mashed with chopped celery, pickle relish, maybe boiled egg and mayo. Someone asked my daughter what she was eating (I called it) ham salad. You know like tuna. ha ha Thanks Christine.

I have been hitting Kroger hard lately! I found 2 pound packages of 93% ground beef for $4.08! And the 99 cent sale has been great! I was also able to get some big cans of Las Palmas enchilada sauce for $1.49 each after sales and Ibotta! I like to stock up stuff for some family members who have a harder time during the summer and give them some food I stocked up for them when summer hits. You never know when you might need it!

Tip: Buy a camp stove. They're not that expensive. I got a Coleman for $30 at end of season. Get the little propane tanks, I think 6 in a pkg at Wal-Mart. Store it all in your pantry so you can locate it when the next natural disaster strikes.
