!Frost Alert as high pressure brings colder air, a change possible next week

- Massive high pressure near Tasmania is bringing in a colder southerly for NZ today and that means frosts over the next couple nights for inland areas of both islands. It may not be until tomorrow night/Friday morning that it affects more of the North Island.
The big Aussie high will finally reach NZ this weekend and early next week bringing more cold nights and fairly calm days.
Next week there may finally be a break in this high pressure pattern due to two reasons explained in the video at the end: 1) High pressure looks to be finally tracking further northwards next week and 2) There’s a low trying to form in the Tasman Sea. However, high pressure is still dominating NZ’s weather as we go into next week. - Развлечения
Good to see the highs are finally starting to move north. Thanks for the update, I've been waiting for those highs to move north over Australia so I can go camping😉
Thank you for your update, forwarned is forarmed and I think I have covered it all to be prepared. Its the little things that make a difference. Wrap up and keep warm, you have been warned.
I’m really enjoying this big, fat high pressure system slowly moving forward two steps then back one. It’s been great for solar power production!
Yeah it sure is a doozy!
Ooh, chilly times ahead. Thanks Phil and team. 👌😁🥶
🤗😎🙌🌞❄ Great Stuff Phil!

First frost of the year this morning in Hamilton. So stoked that winter is f8nally here
100% agree!!
Love your work Weatherwatchtv! Now why isn’t my town shown lol
Lol stop it! :)
You are right about the Auckland airport.
This morning met service says it reached 6.1 degrees, but my outdoor thermometer reached 3.7 degrees (about .3 or .4 degrees too cold, actual temp about 4 degrees).
Ive seen differences of 5 degrees between the airport and our yard.
Most of our main centres have a temperature variation of several degrees at coldest and hottest parts of the day due to coastal and inland areas, low lying and higher elevation areas, flat places and hilly. It's quite different to many other parts of the world!
@@WeatherWatchTV Its very fascinating.
I can remember metservice saying Auckland is 13 degrees (airport) and being able to see my breath.
Next few days after writing that comment in auckland I had a low of 1.8, 0.3, 1.9 then 0.1 all with varying degrees of frosts, even had some ice on the roof metal, and the grass temp got down to about -2.8. Fascinating and frigid, at least it was nice and sunny.
Hi Phil, I really think you should redirect your complaints to the Samaritans..if people haven't figured out how you your site works by now, they never will.
Keep up the great work mate 👍
They already here in canterbury frosty white mornings
Thanks for the update - hope you're enjoying them!
Next update 9/5/24
Thee best weather man in nz.
Many thanks :)
Afternoon all I see that my home town will be at 3 degrees in the morning so as i jokingly say When Will I see You Again.????
Just double check your hourly forecasts - in some locations the minimum temperature may be in the PM side of the day not the AM half. It's the lowest temperature of the day. :) But yes possibly!
@@WeatherWatchTV southerly got up in the night no frost.
Interesting how sea air temperatures around nz much warmer than In land nz
Wind
The sea holds heat from the sun during the day and slowly releases it at night, keeping coastal areas slightly milder in colder months. And yes, coastal breezes at night can also help keep temperatures higher than inland areas. But it's the inland areas that can often be warmest by day, especially in summer, because the soil/rocks/metal on the ground heat up much more/hold more heat than the sea does and inland areas don't have that cooler coastal breeze to help disperse the heat.
Hi, high, um not quite hi. High dithers means temps not high!
haha!
Hi Phil, what do you make of the media claiming it's a Polar Blast. Kinda strange wording. Not like there was snow on New Brighton beach or gale force southerlies
So what is in Otematata that necessitates it being there every map? I like your work but less keen on apps with pay walls
Place names are just randomly chosen due to geographical reasons - the best way to get a picture of temperatures. And our app is the largest FREE app in NZ, larger than Niwa and MetService combined (who you pay for/tax fund). You don't have to pay for alerts behind the paywall... you can use the app without that. We have to pay our bills somehow buddy.... can't just endlessly make free stuff.
Aw ok just another ordinary week in NZ 🤭
Feilding has had it's first frost this morning
