Best video of the job on the internet and I watched them all. I wish they were still making videos-- very good instructors. Just stay after that big wiring harness, work it back and forth, and it will eventually separate. Use a big piece of cardboard and punch holes in it to keep track of which valve cover bolt/stud goes where.
GREAT job on the video. The reason I was replacing mine is because of oil in the spark plug tubes. One tube was dry and the other three have oil in them and that means the gaskets need replacement. This was an extremely helpful video with the diagrams and the step by step of how to remove all the different clips that hold things on the cover. Bolts are kind of obvious how to take out - the various clips are more of an adventure. Thanks!
Im going to try this on my 2.3 mazda5 . Don't know if I should cry or Thank you for doing this video. It's very helpful to people who don't know anything about mechanical stuff on autos. You should put a donation page to support your videos, just keep them coming. May God bless you a millions.
Awesome! You are my hero -- no dirty nails, no greasy hands, no scraped knuckles, no dirty clothing. I'm awe-struck. My partner is impressed too. Girl power! ;-)
Thank you for the video. Just did this on a 2005 Mazda 6i at 90k miles. The bolt tightening sequence was really helpful. My Chiltons book didn't even have it. It was also a pleasure to watch you, too!
Awesome video! Very detailed and I really appreciated the photos with numbers (for the 14 8mm bolts) and the photos of the bolts you were taking out when they couldn't really be seen on the video. I successfully changed the valve gasket cover on my 2009 Mazda 3 thanks exclusively to your video. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! I just tackled this project over the weekend on my 2004 2.3 hatch. It took me a bit of time, mostly because I've never attempted a repair like this before. But, your detailed instructions made it simple. I had a really hard time getting the yellow plastic clips off, as well as some of the other switches. Mostly because my car is 12 years old with 170K on it. Another thing to note...five of the 8mm bolts came out the entire way, I'm not sure if this was supposed to happen or not. The others stayed in. Once all the bolts were removed/loose, the valve cover itself would not budge. I hit it with the rubber mallet a few times but ended up using the pry end of a hammer on the front right to get it off. Thanks again!!
Always disconnect the battery terminals before unplugging any other terminals on the vehicle, including the coil packs/spark plugs. If you do not disconnect the battery you have a risk of short circuiting other systems when you unplug connectors.
Thank you for this video. I started doing this on my 2010 Mazda 3 and was just about to quit but then I found this video and was able to finish without having to pay an expensive mechanic.
That was a great straight forward and detailed video. The car looked brand new with not a spot of dirty. I know with an older car which is when a gasket needs replacing, can be harder and be prepared to get your hands dirty, bolts may be harder to get off, and the old gasket really needs to be stripped out (which sometimes requires scrapping and such, before the new gasket is put in to adhere properly. For sure that seal has to be tight. Anyway it would make for a more labour intensive and dirty job.
Love this channel! Awesome job, as a technician, I still can't figure out how you kept your hands so clean? Very Meticulous work. I'm sure that will hold up for many miles to come
Segundo en hablar español aquí y no entender ni papas el ingles pero que mucho aprendo con esta chica hermosa es una inspiración para arreglar mi mazda 3 que tanto miedo tengo hacerle mecanica gracias 👍
I know!!!!!!! them white sleeves!!!!!!!! Im like 😮😮😮😮😮..... I end up looking like chocolate when I do those!!!!! Bravoo... Double thumps up from me👍👍👍👍!!!!!!
Did this four times on mine and after the third time i noticed that my valve cover is actually cracked so had to get new one and replace it, but it all turned out fine and she runs very well :)
I would like to point out that how she put in the valve cover bolts is NOT a good way to do it. With the plastic cover, it's less important than on a steel or aluminum one, but in general, you want to _snug_ the bolts down evenly with your wrench. Once that's done, you use the torque wrench. If you're cranking through more than a half of a turn or so (as she is), you need to spread that cranking throughout the bolts - don't just ram one down, then flip to the next. You want the pressure to be put on the cover evenly across the bolts, not have high pressure spots like she's doing.
Hi, I have a 2008 ford fusion 2.3L and I'm wondering if this is the same procedure. The engines seem to be the same. I need to replace my valve cover gasket and I'm hoping to do it along with my next oil change.
Mauricio Gonzalez this task usually only takes like 30 minutes on most cars. you'll have it done in no time and wondering why you were dreading it at all
It'll proabably take a novice at least an hour, especially if you don't have all the tools and items you need already. Give yourself 3 hours and maybe you'll finish early.
took me about 25 minutes to do mine.. but it took about 5 minutes to pick the petrified seal out of the valve cover in chunks. mine is the 2.0 focus duratec
Exact same engine. Mazda and Ford have shared the 2.3L engine for many years. I have a Mazdaspeed 6. Mine only has a few more steps than this because of the top mount intercooler.
@everythingdiy Hello. Just wana ask if do you have to remove or drain you engine oil first before you change your gasket, or you can do it without changing it the oil. Thanks!
This was an excellent instruction video. Well thought out, planned and executed. Great job guys. I couldn't get over that you did all that work on an engine wearing white long sleeved outfit - I was expecting it to be covered in grease by the end ;)
great video! just one comment on torque sequences. one and two mixed up is common mistake. but first pass should not be at final torque as it can cause small pinches in your brand new gasket and prematurely wear. just a good tip to go 2 passes one at half. other than that you guys and gals. are awesome
PhillyB Don’t bother waiting, it’s not an RTV gasket. Even if it were, I’ve never waited in my professional years and I’ve never had a problem, nor has anyone I’ve ever worked with,
the 2011 mazda 3 valve cover bolts do not say in the cover they can come out. Did i miss something? they all were hand undone until they were free then i pulled them up expecting the lock in place that you mention.
Hi there Great video I was wondering, I just did the rocker cover gasket myself, while you were torqing down the bolts for the gasket, did you cone across the 2 middle bolts bolted all the way down. That's what i noticed when I started to un bolt them from the start, as if they were bolted down all the way. So with the new one, I just hand tight the outside bolts, except the 2 middle they had to be bolted down all the way. Did you end up with the same results ?? thank you
Hi, the drill you're using looks like a Makita brand. Did that come with the sockets & other attachments or did you purchase separately? Thanks. Great video!
Not sure. The middle gaskets lost their seal so we had oil leaking on the plugs. This engine only has 60,000 miles on it so we were very surprised to see a leak.
She's only replacing a gasket that hasn't failed.... I just replaced one that has failed and got minimal dirty. My valve cover has a moving part that is a pain to put back. Good job, I used 5 lbs foot.
Tony Kib hey there. I just replaced my old spark plugs, I found that 2 out of 4 spark plugs had quite a bit of oil, what does that mean? And what should I do?
where can i find the diagram for tightening the valve cover bolts? I saw it on the video but can't see it anywhere else. Just wondering if you provide it separately as well.
Here is one: www.autozone.com/repairguides/Mazda-Car-2005-06/Engine-Mechanical-Components/Valve-Covers/_/P-0996b43f8037e323 ...don't know if you need to create an acount to see it though.
That hose from the top of valve cover, what it is? After I changed the gasket that hose somehow slipped of (not from the cover, but from another side). Is it vacuum brake hose, or what it is? Should it be a clamp on that end? I put it back, but it just slided on the tube coming from the engine, no clamp on it, is that how suppose to be? My car is 2001 Saturn SL2. Thank you for the film.

Best valve cover gasket replacement vid for the Mazda 3 on RUclips hands down
Soy el único aquí que habla español 🥺 ojalá y no, excelente video, saludos desde México 🇲🇽 , tengo un mazda3 y gracias a ti he aprendido mucho 😀

i know its old, but that is a clean engine. looks like oil was probably drained too
The best video I have ever seen replacing the Mazda valve cover gasket. Very good instructions.
Love it. Engine maintenance in a white sweater and no gloves...
SHE DID AN EXCELLENT JOB ON EXPLAINING AND REPLACING VALVE COVER GASKET
Thank you for the video. Just did this on a 2005 Mazda 6i at 90k miles. The bolt tightening sequence was really helpful. My Chiltons book didn't even have it. It was also a pleasure to watch you, too!
Thank you very much. I just did this today on 2013 Mazda 3i.
Awesome video! Very detailed and I really appreciated the photos with numbers (for the 14 8mm bolts) and the photos of the bolts you were taking out when they couldn't really be seen on the video. You made it look so easy. After watching you, I'm inspired to do the same on my 2015 Mazda6. Appreciate the detailed procedure.
Thank you for this video. I started doing this on my 2010 Mazda 3 and was just about to quit but then I found this video and was able to finish without having to pay an expensive mechanic.

You are the best! And because of you’re video I was able to do mine yesterday to my 2012 Mazda 5!
Nice!! Love the detail in the video thanks
I'm speechless. Great video.
nice teacher helps to get pumped for the job, gracias linda
Love this channel! Awesome job, as a technician, I still can't figure out how you kept your hands so clean? Very Meticulous work. I'm sure that will hold up for many miles to come
I just found my new favorite RUclips channel
Thanks for posting! Your next DIY should be replacing the PCV valve and hose.
Nice job! You didn’t even wore gloves! 👍🏼
Segundo en hablar español aquí y no entender ni papas el ingles pero que mucho aprendo con esta chica hermosa es una inspiración para arreglar mi mazda 3 que tanto miedo tengo hacerle mecanica gracias 👍
excellent video compare to other videos available online. simple and easy to understand. welldone.
You just changed the valve cover gasket wearing a white shirt without getting your hands dirty
O_o
A valve cover gasket is not a head gasket. The head gasket sits between the cylinder head and the engine block.
Ugh... Yeah. I know. Just said the wrong thing. I've replaced a head gasket on an Audi before, so I know what that entails.
You right some one helping her
I get filthy by just looking at an engine nevermind pulling the thing apart
lol thats what im saying the engine looked as hell
Easy to follow, super helpful, thanks!
Simple n easy to understand. Thank you.
can you start the engine after replacing everything and is there a setting period for the sealant?
I know!!!!!!! them white sleeves!!!!!!!!
Im like 😮😮😮😮😮.....
I end up looking like chocolate when I do those!!!!!
Bravoo... Double thumps up from me👍👍👍👍!!!!!!
lol thanks, i wanted to do mine once the weather clears up here. Thanks for the diagram, that was a big help.
HOW DOES SHE DO THIS WITHOUT GLOVES AND KEEP HER HANDS SPOTLESS?
I know rite women
car was detailed before she did that lol it didnt look like their was oil inside the vale cover
Fantastic video! Very beneficial and enjoyable.
Did this four times on mine and after the third time i noticed that my valve cover is actually cracked so had to get new one and replace it, but it all turned out fine and she runs very well :)
if you havnt already can you install an aftermarket boost gauge. i'm finding it a real pita in to do and your video's are really good.
Nice video . Cant wait for your next video.
Thank you so much for this video. I just replaced my valve cover gasket with no problems or guess work on the bolt pattern or torque.

Excelent video! All your videos about mazda 3 are very good. Excuse me what is the torque for this?
This was an excellent instruction video. Well thought out, planned and executed. Great job guys. I couldn't get over that you did all that work on an engine wearing white long sleeved outfit - I was expecting it to be covered in grease by the end ;)

What about the Valve cover gasket on a 2008 Mazda5? Is it the same concept to the video you have here on the 2005 Mazda5?
Should be exactly the same. The Mazda5 is a Mazda3 with a taller roof and only available as an Automatic.
I recommend 72 inch LBS - 80 inch LBS all around as said by Fel-Pro directly thanks
Thanks for sharing thins video
Now i know to fix my bike🙏🏻
Thank you for the detailed video. Mine is due for gaskets @ 190k miles. How long should you wait to start the engine after changing the valve gaskets?
PhillyB Don’t bother waiting, it’s not an RTV gasket. Even if it were, I’ve never waited in my professional years and I’ve never had a problem, nor has anyone I’ve ever worked with,
Well done. Very good job.
SO MOTIVATED TO SEE A WOMAN DO THIS I AM A MAN AND IM INTIMIDATED BY CAR ENGINE ...BUT SEEING YOU DO THIS MAKES ME MOTIVATED TO TAKE IT ON!
a beautiful mechanic, I'll bring my car to your shop to fix every day.
Nice work ❤
Excellent video

thank you
I got a little bit of carbon/dirt in the head while cleaning the gasket area, is this a huge deal? no big pieces just a small amount of dust
Thanks for the vid. How about a video on replacing the PCV valve?
Hi, the drill you're using looks like a Makita brand. Did that come with the sockets & other attachments or did you purchase separately? Thanks. Great video!
Excellent knowledge
as good as Scotty and a whole lot easier on the eyes
great video! how did your valve gasket fail? it doesn't seem to me to be a high wear item, especially for a younger engine
Not sure. The middle gaskets lost their seal so we had oil leaking on the plugs. This engine only has 60,000 miles on it so we were very surprised to see a leak.
everythingdiy I have a Mazda 3 and the middle seals failed around 80k miles.
Wow im going to have my girlfriend sit down , watch your videos and take notes.... jeje great job with your channel
She's only replacing a gasket that hasn't failed.... I just replaced one that has failed and got minimal dirty. My valve cover has a moving part that is a pain to put back. Good job, I used 5 lbs foot.
Excellent video!
Nicely done👍
Looks like the same engine on a 2010 Ford Focus. Real simple, looks like I will be taking out an hour of the weekend to do it.
Ford owned and might still own Mazda.
2006 and up its your basic 2.0/2.3 duratec
Glad I rewatched this video. My spark plugs were surrounded by oil unlike your engine. Red flag, better pull the plugs and see how they look too.
Tony Kib hey there. I just replaced my old spark plugs, I found that 2 out of 4 spark plugs had quite a bit of oil, what does that mean? And what should I do?
YOU GO GIRL!!! NICE!
What setup did you have on your drill? I need to set up mine like that.
Great video. Thanks helped
Do you have access to a mazda 3 2010-2013 wiring diagram ?? Or do you know a place I can get my hands on one please?
Great video though!
Nice detail.
Is that the fuel rail right below the valve cover? Silver with a scu# ..and is it easy to replace?
Wow thank you so much! Very informative
Hola ,Gracias por subir videos de tips para Mazda, pero quisiera que subieras algo sobre fallas del canister de Mazda 6 mod. 2007....
Saludos
Didn't even break a nail.....impressive.
Nice video!!
Good afternoon! Please tell me what kind of screwdriver makita you have at 2:55? If not difficult to write the full marking. Thank you!
Ez, I like easy work...😍🥰
Great vid! Very helpful. Thanks a lot!

awesome video
Hi! Does the engine oil need to be drained prior to replacing the gasket??
No
wow your great. great Job girl...
Is it the same procedure for the mazdaspeed valve cover gasket? I can't find a DIY for our cars anywhere.
you didn't have to remove the positive plug for the battery? since we're going to be disconnecting a lot of wires.
Weird question, but are there torque specs for any of the bolts holding on the metal pieces on the rear/side of the valve cover?
Shouldn't the silicon glue be used on the valve cover in the corners underneath the gasket to hold it in place?
Good job
Good video
Hi i got to replace a lifter on the same car and my mechanic suggest me to swap the all engine... there is nothing we could do About it ?
Great video thank you so much..
