That is a cool rod I don't know how I found this video but that fishing rod is like a Abu Garcia ultra lite ice fishing rod that I spent too much on might try making my own
Mikado sells pretty decent ice fishing rods for 10-20 euros. If you just happen to have a broken rod laying around that you can scavenge the reel seat off of, this might be cheaper. But if you need to buy the components, I highly doubt you'll save a dime.
I want to see what happens when he hooks in a decent size carp using this equipment. That would be much more entertaining although no doubt a short video.

the work is masterful. it would be preferable to do all the housing underneath the reel plate in rubber. If you want you can put a slide plate, to keep everything as minimal as possible. greetings from Italy 🎣
It's a cool project but the rod is way too whippy to be effective on fish larger then a couple of inches. There is a reason fishing rods have a certain amount of rigidity to them. If they are too flexible you can't properly set a hook, too stiff and you run the risk of it snapping when you try to set the hook as well as fight the fish. This rod is just way too flexible to be much good.
