    I am at the stage now, where I am working on my portfolio within webflow. Had real clients before but I worked with wordpress. Same as you, I took a design class, later development - quickly found that wordpress is super limited for designers - even though there are builders such as Elementor or Wpbakery. When I found Webflow, it blew me! The fact that I can bring any design into life without spending couple of years learnign code websites... Even though learning curve is also pretty big I love it, and I learn about code a lot. And, I could say some of your tutorials really helped me understand things quicker! Thanks!

    I just found you, and I have to say. I'm looking to really ramp up my experience here too. I have a degree in Web Design, however, I work in IT Networking with a focus in Voice. I don't really like it and have been doing it for 10 years now! I am looking to use my creativity to work on this, hoping to switch my career to this type of work. I LOVE webflow, it really is inspiring to hear how you progressed. My first introduction to Webflow was through Flux Academy. I then also went through Webflows content, and still do from time to time. Really want to learn how to design and think about more interesting interactions, that is where my focus is now. Thank you for the videos!!

    I know you have already posted in the past a tutorial or two about how to use "em" and "VW" between texts and blocks - do you think you can make another in-depth one because I still struggle with the cloning project that you posted on your first tutorial.

    • @timothyricks
      @timothyricks  3 года назад +4

      That's definitely an important enough topic to warrant another tutorial! Which parts are you mainly struggling with?

    • @MubarakMarafa
      @MubarakMarafa 3 года назад +1

      @@timothyricks thanks! I was struggling with this last night as well. Mainly how to get my paragraphs to scale properly vertically. Whenever I’d scale the windows width my text would get really large and clip off screen at the top. I solved it my putting max values but I was wondering, if I wanted to keep everything scalable on the page, both vertically and horizontally, what would that look like?
      Also! Absolutely love your content my guy! Some of the best Webflow tutorials ever! I really mean that! 🙌🏾

    • @timothyricks
      @timothyricks  3 года назад +1

      @@MubarakMarafa Thanks so much! Usually, setting a max width on the font size is the best solution like you did by using a larger breakpoint. It all depends on your design though. If the text is in a section that has a forced height sometimes you can try using a min-height instead or setting the section to overflow scroll. I think you could also look into using vmin possibly for the section font size instead of vw. It would set the size to either vh or vw depending on which one is smaller for the user.

    Really nice and encouraging video! :-) I am experimenting with Webflow coming from the web developer corner since building visual outcomes by handwriting code is a bit like painting a picture from behind. So far I find Webflow still limiting plus confusing. It makes sense to me for designers and developers to connect and figure out a most efficient (or even fun!) way of empowering our work.
    Does there exist a cooperative where web designers and web developers come together to meet their needs? Or should we form a posting group in which to keep each other informed or work together?

    • @timothyricks

    hey, did you ever get anyone judging you for using WebFlow as your preferred platform because its not "industry standard"? do you also know how to use wordpress? im from a graphic design background and want to add basic websites to my portfolio but im hesitant to stick to webflow because of this, even though i really like it. ive tried Divi and woocommerce on wordpress in a previous job but the plugins really add up and i find wordpress can get messy

    • @timothyricks
      @timothyricks  3 года назад +2

      Hello! At the end of the day, it’s about the result, not the tools. I never personally received judgement for using WebFlow. The only group I could think of that might view it as “less than” are professional developers. I think website visitors would rarely care enough to check which platform a site was built in. Clients can sometimes be skeptical, only because it’s a newer platform, but for most marketing sites, it’s a perfect solution. If anything, using WebFlow over a WordPress theme shows a greater knowledge of the website structure and the way the web work. I’ve been a part in building $100,000+ WebFlow websites, and the reason is that in the hands of the right designer, a WebFlow site is often just as good or better than a custom coded WordPress site. Definitely better than any Wordpress theme or Wordpress builder because it uses the same principles used for custom development. While there are limitations for building really large sites in WebFlow, for the majority of website projects, it offers a huge competitive edge by allowing you to work faster and more efficiently.

    For me if I do something free for a friend, I instantly devalue my product I try to make for them and they'll not appreciate the outcome. They may think that it's a 5 minute job, I'm an amateur and they don't think that it's any use for them. Also, because they don't really care about it, they'll not engage in providing content, photos or feedback on your work and they won't take it seriously. Just my experience 🤷‍♂️
