  • I think the idea of decluttering, simplifying, minimising and purging your home has become such a trend at the moment that people are jumping on the band wagon simple to say they have done it. But what is the purpose of decluttering your home? What are the benefits of having a simple clutter free home, how will simplifying your life and your home change you? Here are the reasons you should declutter your home, the benefits me and Jon have found from having a simplified home and a simpler life.
We are still of a decluttering and minimalism journey and I have no doubt it will still take us a few months or longer to get to a point where we are truly happy with the amount of possessions we own, but we are getting there and we are already seeing the benefits of a simplified home.

These are great tips, I love how much detail you've gone into about everything and the scope of the sections of decluttering that you've covered AND it actually makes sense! I have so much to declutter at home, I just need to get around to getting everything sorted.

I'm always on a mission to declutter and working away at it slowly

It a long process for everyone I think. As long as you keep ticking off areas or categories youll get there in the end. You just need to remember to be really strict with yourself so your not having to do things time and again

Loved this video. Thank you for taking the time to do this. I agree with everything you’ve said. I started my minimalist journey about 12 months ago when I discovered M/Kondo. It’s everything you described and more. I’m more of a cozy minimalist if that makes sense. I’m still decluttering as it’s a slow process and combined with 2 kids under 4 it’s got it’s moments of no action.

Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Glad that it helped you, I think minimalism is a long journey for lots of us, we simply don't have the time or attention span to do everything quickly and I feel we often need to adjust to changes in our home and our attachment to belongings. The more your let go of though the easier it becomes

thanks for this - I needed to hear it as about to move house soon and I can't clutter up the new place like my current home is now. Really need to minimise what we move with! really like the advice on keeping the sentimental stuff - i.e. not keeping *all* of it!

Oh decluttering before a move is the most important and also the easiest I feel as you have to physically move and pack every item, and your usually on a time constraint so you can discard as you pack and only have to pack and move what is really wanted and needed! Good luck!!

I have read somewhere that we change personally about every 7 to 10 years. I have found this to be true. I use to love doing embroidery, but not so much now. Part of it is people don't really respect it. So why should I do it have have no one to give it to. And my eye sight is not as good, so I done read as much. It's a strain on the eyes.

Thats interesting to know, it makes sense that we don't enjoy the same things for our whole life. Maybe I am hitting that phase now

I don't know how your property it planned. Maybe if possible, save your money and add onto the attic as a 2nd room when your son is older. If you still love your property then. Have a blessed week.

Sadly there isn't an option for attic space, we could potentially add a double story extension off the back, but due to the way our house is constricted it would cost a fortune as the entire house foundations would have to be underpinned!

I think the word you are looking for is "breathing room".
