Just a fantastic group for people to key on. In the 70s I had to learn to identify by the flight pattern and habit of flight and I am sure you know why. There is such a wide variety of ways to really get close and observe the birds fight , feeding habits. From the whistle of the wings flying right over your head the crack of dawn to the fascinating way they tumble out of the high flights down to water. Water foul are an extremely rewarding watch.
My apartment complex has 5 ponds. Several years ago we had well over 50 ducks. They pooped on the walking trails and kept approaching walkers for food and attention and made a lot of noise. Then someone came and took them all away.
Talk about timing, Mark…. Just had two new types of duck in our pond. A Gadwall male and two Bufflehead females, small in size. Once daylight broke, the Buffleheads were underwater more than topside it seemed. Hope you and the family had a great Thanksgiving.
Thanks! I love ducks! Off topic: there is a cat stalking and hiding in the bushes where the little birds like to hide. Any suggestions on how to repel cats from the bushes? The bushes are on the fence line between 2 properties so the bushes are on both sides.
Thank you for speaking on this topic. Waterfowl has always fascinated me.
