I went to Europe for the first time last year. Wow! So much easier to walk there. And we felt safe doing it.
Why wouldn't you feel safe?
Same here! I got the most steps I've ever gotten on my Europe trips. So easy to walk there
@@Oneironaut9 lack of pedestrian infrastructure, presumably.
Might be the first time I heard something that exercise is better than nutrition for. Very intriguing!
I started playing chess online at age 63. I noticed that when I eat lightly and have blueberries, I do better. I wonder if a randomized controlled trial of older chess players is in order.
Don't just play chess. Do a variety of mind exercises along with eye exercises. look up binocular disorder treatments and do the eye exercises prescribed for it.
I feel the most focused when I am slightly hungry as well. Apparently that is built in to us evolutionarily. It makes sense because in early human ancestry, you would really need to dial in and focus when you get hungry to find food, because if you don't... well... you're through.
Thanks again! How about a study on humming or singing along with music? Listening is enjoyable but passive, while singing actively stimulates even the deepest structures of the nervous system, potentially evoking multiple extra benefits. And naturally, quality sleep is always a key, to everything better!
Most elderly people have problems getting up off the floor. As a child you spend a lot of time on the floor, adults do not.
Doing yoga / stretching exercises on the floor can improve balance, mobility, flexibility and the ability to get up and down..
Just getting up and down to the floor in a controlled manner is difficult for many older adults.
Play with your children / grandchildren on the floor. Bend over, get down and pull weeds in your garden. Play with a pet on the floor.
The more effort you make to work on balance and flexibility will pay dividends as you age.
I guess I have to keep up my exercise habit.
Thanks for discussing causality. That's almost always missed in articles.
You’re the best. !!
Looks like the secret to a sharp mind is just a brisk walk away... or maybe a little less Netflix and a lot more steps
Or exercise whenever you watch Netflix
@@MrMopbucket TRUE. It's easy to go hard on a treadmill or elliptical while watching Netflix 🤣
@@SirAzilizan i wont step foot on a treadmill without hulu
@@MrPlantMan6000 Everyone's got their strategy haha
I appreciate these podcasts, I am 65 and learn so much. Thank you! I have noticed the more I move the better I feel.
Daily exercise is key to as healthy life. Ride a bicycle to school, work or for fun.
Riding a bicycle is a great way to exercise. Ebikes are bringing many older adults back to cycling.
Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles. Safe protected bike lanes and trails are needed so adults and children can ride safely. Speak up for bicycles in your community. Bicycles make life and cities better. Ask your local transportation planner and elected officials to support more protected bike lanes and trails. Children should be riding a bicycle to school and not be driven in a minivan. Be healthier and happier. Ride a bicycle regularly.
Make a bicycle your transportation option for short distance travel.
This is not good advice for older women who have osteoporosis one bicycle accident and you'll ruin your life
@@teachertrx1204 Daily exercise helps to strengthen bones. Sitting excessively is bad for your health. We all need more daily exercise to be healthy and have strong bones.
Plantbased diet stimulate pre frontal cortex.. Which is great for cognitive behaviour.
Thank you!
I can't imagine how painful it would be to go 200° below zero Fahrenheit
The mind is certainly a terrible thing to waste.
I can't count all the "Ahhh"'s in his live videos. But they are probably sighs of improving cognitive function...
I've seen and heard too much evidence over decades that resistance training helps cognition better than aerobic training so I question that aerobic training is suddenly better.🤨
Add fasting and healthy eating and we're way ahead in cognitive health.
@NutritionFactsOrg is it 52 Hours of exercise per year? You did not clearly state that, but from the study being over a year I guessed that. That means only 1 hour per week which does not seem like much.
How did they not get frostbite? Yikes
My constant search for ADHD remedies: Dr. Greger's got a video on cognitive function!?!?!

If you want to walk around freely in America without being shot at or mugged by random people or being run over by angry drivers you may have to MOVE. Honest opinion. Go to Japan, Taiwan, South Korea or some EU countries. American is too violent and lenient on criminals.
Or a different neighborhood? Or a small town? I think you may be too deep into right wing fear-mongering media. Most of America is still very safe.
