I wish you (and your filmmakers!!!) could have seen the delight this video produced in a 1 yr old, a few minutes ago. Played this and enchanted the fidgety visitor, who became entralled and danced along. This song, and particularly this remarkable video, have been on my list of favorites. It simply makes me happy....every time. S&R are making some of the best Americana music, and the critical accolades are well deserved (and "hard earned").
When it showed them backstage, there was a poster on the wall for Shaky Graves. That's so cool because that's how I discovered these two. I was watching a Shaky Graves video, and over on the right was a song by Shovels and Rope. I liked the name so I clicked on it.
Check out the band from the other flyers as well. Hayes, Carll, Lucius (oh god especially Lucius) , Hurray for the Riff Raff (A real treat if you like Americana) they are all fantastic.
Mary Ann was a waitress at the circus Dan was a writer for the Delaware Locale Observer Just 21 and just two months out of the service missing half an eyelid so he had to wear a patch Mary Ann introduced herself to Dan she said, "do you like the menu or do you need me to read it to you?" half way angry half turned on and half confused he took her by the arm and went out back to make a match and he said... "So long to my former life to a worried life so long. So long to a harder life to a troubled life so long." lying there under the soft glow of the sunrise the moon was still awake and all the generators lowly humming she picked a flower and fastened it on to his bad eye she said, "Come on let's get married. I think we might get along." and she said... "So long to my former life to a selfish life so long. So long to a bitter life. to a troubled life so long." Dan he was no poet couldn't dance he never slept he had nightmares every night of rain and fire on those bloody beaches just then the dew dropped from the flower and he wept Mary Ann you are a melody I think I wrote a song it goes like... "so long to my worried life to a lonesome life so long. so long to a wandering life to a wounded life so long." and we all said... "so long to those memories to everything we can't let go so long. so long to our former selves to our selfish selves so long."
All these years on my personal playlist and I just realized today, that thing is a lion. I thought it was just wearing a space helmet or a toilet seat on its head for no real reason.
Great Video. IMO The Only Band worth a fuck this side of the Mississippi!!! Me & The Kido seeing them LIVE for the 1st time May12th at The Park here in Louisville. I kept missing them at the waterfront and was hoping id get lucky and they would play Headliners but The Park will do just fine. I like a more Laid back personal seem than what the river woulda been but hell im just happy i finally get to see the magic happen! I dont pay to see bands normally cause honestly the only band ive cared to see on stage in the last 5+ years other than S & R was my band and we broke up 6+ years ago if that tells ya anything... ;) Im not tryn to spend any of my ends on all the soda pop sell outs but im glad to spend bunches of cash to support the tunes their putting out. Its real shit! Original! They Own that shit on and off stage and im never let down. They are a perfect fit to make something beautiful happen and i love that My Daughter gets to be apart of that at her very 1st concert "other than my old bands" and im glad i can enjoy it fully being sobar and clean now. I cant wait. If you havnt got your tickets getm now cause itll be a great show. Plus the tickets in advance were only 22-ea. and thats love compared to what tickets can go for these days. Only 30- at the door too aint bad ither... Not for a Show like they put on. With the good price on the admission now i can buy some shirts and shit for the Kido too. Gotta help support bands like this cause its really hard coming up. Plus when your a GREAT band that doesnt suck prick its even harder. Believe that its true. So if we want them to be able to give us more tunes we gotta show some love. So burn a fatty of some loud and get out to The I.
