If I were made the new boss of Channel 4, I would keep the channel’s current logo the way it is now, but change the Channel 4 Television logo back to the original multicolor 4, but with Channel on top and Television on the bottom, the ident would be accompanied by fourscore at 2-3 times the original speed. For DVD and Blu Ray releases of shows, I’d use that widescreen ident with the multicolor 4 (used to pay tribute to the designer after he died last year), but with the 1992 music and the words “Home Video” would appear under it when the animation finishes.
Some elements of this logo did appear on air. Channel 4 News carried a design based upon it for a couple of years, before they modified the titles to revert to the blocks. And some stings went ahead.
I mostly missed out on Channel 4's 1996 on-air look! Why? 1996 was the year we got Sky so I decided to ONLY watch Sky channels from that point on! I did still catch the odd glimpse of the basic 4 channels, watched some editions of The Big Breakfast with the theme tune it had later into the 90s and I DEFINITELY watched The Big Breakfast when they had an editor from Computer & Video Games magazine on! Even so, now that we had Sky, Nickelodeon was my main port of call, before I eventually switched to Fox Kids and later Cartoon Network!
They even have an HD version of one of their original idents, used during Alzheimer’s Week in 2019, and again in late 2020 to pay tribute to the then-recently deceased designer of the original look, Martin Lambie-Nairn.
I'm so glad C4 changed their minds and stuck with the original logo (but altering the fourscore theme in 1992)

I think it's supposed to resemble the "impossible triangle" illusion. That's why there are only three bars.
"This is Channel Four!...And now to the grid iron for The Clash Of The Giants!...American Football!".

Just as well they dropped that "4" - there are only 3 blocks forming it.
0:02 “Four”

This is channel 4, And now to the gridiron of the clash of the giants, American Football.

This “4” logo would be used for the Channel 4 News from 1990-1993
someone probably lost their job
Oversimplification before it was cool.
I'm some-what imagining altering the past and this replacing the 1982 logo completely
Looks like it’s been designed out of plasticine 😭
It looks like a 5 year old made it
better than the 1996 logo

It wasn't that bad.
Modern version of channel 4 however the 1982's logo still retained

This looks like a 5 year old made this
The unused ident looked too generic.
this is good WHY DID CHANNEL 4 DROP THIS
As someone here has said, there were only three blocks forming a "4" for Channel 4.
