I Don't know where you saw that they had to shut down because it's not true :) I think Ghibli is going to end because the originals creators are old (Hayao MIYAZAKI) and - sadly - dead (Isao TAKAHATA). With Joe HISAISHI for the music, you can tell that it will soon end. I Believe that Studio Ponoc (Mary and the witch's flower) is the new Ghibli, because it's fullof old animators from Ghibli, and the compositor also worked for some Ghilbi as well. So I think, if they slowely shuting down, it's by precautions, because they know they can't continue like this forever. So they created sort of a back up with Studio Ponoc ? Exactly. I love Nausicae almost as much as this, but this will always my favorite. The scenery, music, characters, animation- everything works perfectly. And it's great for kids as well, even though it is kinda graphic. But Mononoke has no clear "evil villain". Every character has good reason for what they are doing. They are not evil- they just see the world differently.
This movie is very personal for me. When i was like very young we had this show in my country called "1001 wishes". It was only 1 time every year and you get to choose what's played on the show. Some guy or whatever choose this movie to be played during the ongoing show. I managed to catch it exactly at the moment where they shoot the god's head and it just stuck on me. I couldn't remember anything but that moment and i literally tried to look for this movie for such a long time. I didn't know even if it was a movie or just an ad or whatever. But it was my memory.... one of the most significant ones from when i was still a kiddo. Then one day 2 years ago i was browsing trough these Japanese anime music videos and i heard this song in a mix.. and then i remembered .. i knew i had heard this song before.. i was sure of it. I started going trough the comments tried to shazam it and nothing came out.. Then about a week later a guy replied to my comment from where the song was and i quickly rushed to google it and found it at last.. the movie: Princess Mononoke. I straight went to watch it.. To this day this remains to be one of the most beautiful moments in my entire life. I was speechless and emotionally overwhelmed by this movie and the memory it held for me. One of the very few things in this life that made me cry my guts out!
I had a somewhat similar experience too! Its was when i was 11 years old and my school had a one day trip where we went around visiting many places. The last stop was at a prestigious school, mind you it was already night time, and they welcomed us with a live orchestra. They played a total of 4 songs, but there was one particular song that had an anime projected on the stage whist the band was playing in the background. The animation was amazing and add to that the orchestra was playing beautifully, it made the whole room filled with life, i was basically flying. But my eyes were locked onto the screen, where you know the movie Princess Mononoke was playing, but i didn't know what anime was it cause i was too young. But there was one part where the deer god/God stared wide eye directly into the screen, its eyes expanded while its pupil was kinda diluted, shocked me, My HEART felt like jumping out from my chest, telling me to RUN. Like Literally gave me shivers. I was 11 that time, and that god became my nightmare for weeks. Like i'm not lying....WEEKS . When i was 15 i went to search for the name of the anime, and try to watch the whole movie. Who knows, i might feel different when i'm older. But i think it gave me a trauma, cause till this day, i still can't look at the gods head......or face, because i flinch every time i look at it. It still kinda scares me ahah. But i still love the anime no less!!
I know whenever I hear a song from Mononoke, it immediately makes me want to watch it again. I'd say 70% of the time, I cave and pop it in the DVD player.
Spike Spiegel I don't believe it's possible. Miyazaki and Hisaishi are that rare and perfect combination, that brings out the best in each other. At least they are in my opinion haha. See you, space cowboy.
This piece, Howl's Moving Castle main theme, Spirited Away's 'the name of life' and 'sixth station' are my all time favourite Ghibli studio masterpieces.
Princess Mononoke is one of the few films about nature/environmentalism that never runs into the problem of becoming too preachy. There are no real villains, just people trying to survive however they can. I think the core message is that while we have to be mindful of our environment, humans will inevitably keep evolving and moving forward. The world is never black and white, and Princess Mononoke does an incredible job of exploring both perspectives. I feel like Miyazaki is one of the few directors who really understands what it means to be human.
My top studio Ghibli: 1. Princess Mononoke 2. Nausicaä of the Valley of the wind 3. The Grave of the Fireflies 4. Spirited Away 5. Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro 6. Laputa: Castle in the sky 7. Tales from Earthsea 8. Howls Moving Castle 9. Porco Rosso 10. Secret World of Arriety
I’ll never forget watching this with my dad when I was a kid, on Christmas eve. Normally, I’d never be able to sleep before Christmas Day but I fell in love with this film so much I ended up dreaming deeply about this amazing world, it was one of those dreams you almost wish you’d never wake up from. When I think about Princess mononoke now I get so nostalgic but also a little sad, the same kind of sadness I felt waking up from that dream and realising this world isn’t the one I live in. Regardless, this film will always be special to me.
When I was a little girl I saw Kiki's Delivery Service and Totoro but when my stepdad showed me this one , I literally TRULY fell in love with it. I watched basically all of Miyazaki's other films and I can honestly say he is my favorite director. So sad he retired :( but this particular film touched my heart with its story when I was younger.
I loved Totoro but then I rewatched it recently and realised how terrible the ending is. It was okay if there was a sequel but not as a single film. It was not bad but it was an odd way to end a decent film. Red Turtle was weird and made no sense but then it was written by some dutch people an not the great Miyazaki.
I lived in Japan for 3 years (specifically on the island Okinawa cause my parents were in the military) and whenever the typhoon season rolled in they would have the entire school just packed in the massive library that they had and we would all just sit and silence because we had to listen for announcements cause yk there’s literal typhoons going on outside. But anyway to calm the us kids down (this was an elementary school and I was in there from 1st to 3rd grade so I was like really young) they would play Ghibli films on the projector with the big speakers that could somehow fill the whole place without being too loud. I don’t know what it was but something about this film specifically combined with the suppressed sounds of heavy rain and speeding winds outside (the whole building was built like a bunker) that just calmed all the kids. This movie is damn special to me and I can’t even say why it’s just something you have to watch to see why so many people see it as Ghibli’s best film.
One of the greatest movies of all time, it stands among movies like The Godfather and The ShawshankRedemption, an eternal classic and just pure, beautiful art
I was so lucky to have been shown this amazing piece of art as a kid. I watched it religiously and probably will for the rest of my life, The soundtrack, the visuals, the message of the movie will always have a special part in my heart. I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it :)
San is the proof that you aren't born good or bad, you are taught what is good and bad. EDIT: I wrote this really late at night and while this comment makes sense, it's super vague and using words such as "good" and "bad" isn't the best, especially in the case of this movie, because in the end, everyone had their personal objectives and while the side of the emperor looked the worst, the point of a kingdom and civilization is to continue to grow, and that always comes with sacrifice, hence deforestation, the exploitation of a culture and threatening the populations of plant and animal species. The use of San in the movie is to create a variable used to show that a human who is trying to protect the forest is just as hateful and destructive as the humans that are expanding the industrial movement in Japan, (who was taught at a young age to hate humans because she herself is human and hates that she is a human and will never truly be a wolf), the other side of the same coin.
You are only born good or bad in the sense that society has already defined much what it thinks about you already. And similarly to the Guardians of the Galaxy thing about not being 100% a ____ you aren't really 100% good or bad. Since morality is only an eye the beholder thing good and bad have no value to anyone other than the self in analysis. Our society makes us think other ways however that there is good and bad and it is defined as some things. Such as is darkness really that bad and is light that good. I played a character in a game that is sort of like dungeons and dragons and I had control over light based magic and yet I never healed anything and did many terrible experiments for good reasons. There is no good or bad.
I first watched the movie when I was 5. That was 12, almost 13 years ago. Words cannot describe how much I love it and listening to this takes me back to those beautiful and easier times. Mononoke Hime is easily my favourite movie of all times. I've watched it for about 100 times, if not more, and I am not joking. I used to watch it almost daily. I will forever love this movie and this song takes me back to those beautiful times
Same, I first watched this movie when I was 5 as well. I'm 18 now. To this date I have yet to see a movie as good as Mononoke Hime. Only Ghibli movies make me emotional, just hearing the soundtrack is enough. I think it's the combination of personal memories, emotions and the fact that these movies are the highest form of art I have ever seen.
This movie shaped me as a person. When I watch it now I notice how it created my picture of a true hero, what it means and how important it is "To see with eyes unclouded by hate" and that in war no one is ever truly "right". Thank you Studio Ghibli for gifting me those things together with a truly touching story, breathtaking pictures and music which leads me into the valley of the old gods side by side with Ashitaka and Jakul.
Princess Mononoke is not my favorite Ghibli film, but I firmly believe that it has the most powerful and moving soundtrack of any Ghibli film, and possibly any other film, ever made.
Movies like this makes you appreciate your surroundings more. Not just nature in this case, but quite literally everything. It doesnt force you to appreciate things through guilt or shame of jealousy. It does so by painting them in a different light. Characters and their relationships with eachother, helps resonate onto your real life social circles. The story itself, puts your own in contrast to a work of fiction, which somehow still manages to feel just as real as the world around you. God i love Miyazakis work.
A few months ago i showed this beautiful movie to my little sister. She is 15 years old, and when the movie finished she said to me "The human being is awful", she was crying, and was so sad to me, but also said that it was the most beautiful movie that she ever has seen in her short life. Thank you Studio Ghibli, for move the feelings of the people.
I loved the moments of them showing Ashitaka riding through the the lush green forests, across these beautiful green mountainous landscapes! And this music was very hearttouching! Really accentuated the beauty of Princess Mononoke!
This one, along side with almost all ghibli movies will always remain a timeless classic, watching them making all others animated movie lately kind of underrated, they probably not bad, but they are not teaching you anything
I watched Mononoke Hime for the first time last week. There was a screening at the cinemas for the 25th anniversary. I'm so grateful that I waited to watch this masterpiece. If you ever get the chance to watch this brilliant movie in the cinema, take it. Even with my professional level headphones, it does not compare at all to hearing the soundtrack through booming cinema speakers.
Lol, I also went to that 25th anniversary presentation! I didn't expect someone to comment on it. Really the experience in the cinema is even better than anything.
@@juliettaml Seen it once in cinema and next Sunday second time. One of my favorite movies in general, not just from Ghibli movies. Ghibli movies are quite easy sell to watch at cinema because there are no disappointments.
Just a few notes, and you're transported back to that world and all its wonders. This is one of the rare songs that will do that every single time, without fail.
When Ashitaka says goodbye to his sister 🥺 Edit: I just learned she isn’t his sister! Here is what it says in Ghibli Wiki - “Though she calls Ashitaka ‘brother’ (jap. anisama), she is actually his bride-elect, and sister in English dub. The word means ‘follower’ because they live in the same village. When Ashitaka leaves his home in the night, she approaches him to say goodbye. However Emishi tradition forbade her to do so. She gave him her crystal dagger. In Emishi tradition girls gave a dagger to their future husband on the day of their wedding. However, Kaya's act showed her love for Ashitaka. According to Hayao Miyazaki, Kaya was already pregnant to Ashitaka, and the legend of Ashitaka was passed on by their descendants.”
I also love Castle in the Sky, another Miyazaki film. The studio ghibli films that he is not the director of are still awesome. However i believe his ones are just a class above!
What to be flabbergasted and rendered speechless? Witness creative genius at its best with this masterpiece. Feel your heart tear as you realise that joy comes at a price and at times it is phyrric. Understand that goodness often is got through sacrifice and that is manifests in the most unexpected ways. Celebrate the fragility of life. Watch this once in a life time superlative work and feels shivers down your spine.

They were misinterpreted in western news. In fact they're just taking a brief pause in filmmaking. And maybe even Hayao Miyazaki may return for a film. www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/film-news/11018226/Studio-Ghibli-Miyazaki-may-return.html
My first Studio Ghibli movie... Stumbled upon the VCD by accident 18 years ago. The movie and soundtrack amaze me so much. The first anime to give me such impression. Ashitaka was 'the man'. Such a pure hero. And the animation for a hand-drawn, was 10/10. A masterpiece that deserve more love.
Ich liebe dieses Lied immer wieder wenn ich es höre habe ich das Gefühl einen Augenblick das echte Leben zu vergessen und mich in eine Welt voller Freude und Glück wieder zu finden ♥️
Literally just finished watching this movie. It's my first "real" anime (don't ask what is a "fake" anime) Words cannot describe it. It's just pure art. I love every second of this movie. I can't complain about a single thing. If you haven't already, watch it. It's worth your time.
This is a beautiful music piece. It's sad. But I understand that it's all about San/Mononoke who cares so much for the animals and the forest. Her heart goes out to them despite her sadness, her pain, and her hatred towards the destructive humans. Only Ashitaka and the spirits of the forest know who she really is. They know that she's special. They even know that her secret heart belongs to the world. But humankind isn't ready to evolve and to have the full awareness which is why this song is sad.
I bought this movie recently and you would have paid a good amount for it but it was only 8 dollars i couldn't believe it. I was both happy for the good deal and enraged because a masterpiece such as this cost less than a dora the exporer dvd. I watched it again and it still holds up wonderfully i just don't understand that price.
It could be because Princess Mononoke is pretty violent while pretty much anyone can watch Dora. It's more accessible. Even if someone is old enough to watch violent things, though, sometimes they may not get the subtleties of a certain art medium. I think Princess Mononoke has a lot of reflecting and quiet before the action sets in and sometimes people want action right away. That's just my guess, though. Personally I love Princess Mononoke. It's beautiful and I love all the characters, even the "bad" guys. Oh, and that might be another thing. Miyazaki doesn't like having bad guys or good guys. He seems to like having gray areas, and I think that's pretty cool. It makes things more interesting and realistic.
Keep things in perspective here, Princess mononoke came out in 1997, this is an older movie now, theres no way it would be that expensive. New Movies aren't even that expensive to purchase to begin with, maybe 20-30 dollars? roughly. It would honestly be ludicrous to charge too much for an old movie. And If you bought i for 8 buck, you probably got it used, which will totally lessen the price. At the end of the day price can never hold a value on creative property. The value comes from the individual who enjoys it. The best thing you can do is enjoy this movie and share it with people :).
Day 15: I’ve had a really rough day today, my mother’s best friend died to heart failure and my grandpa is on his deathbed, I can’t believe I haven’t cried. It’s really hard loosing someone close to me, my grandpa has always been my hero,. But his 92 years are soon gone. I know it’s for the best but it still breaks my heart ❤️ goodbye grandpa.
The good moments are maybe gone, but the memory is still here. And this film allow us to go back in time, for a too short period of time. A masterpiece to be sure, the kind that can change your life.
While I personally prefer My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Spirited Away, I can not deny just how amazing Princess Mononoke truly is. From its animation, to its characters, to its lesson, and to its musical score, it's a masterpiece
This movie does the Man vs Nature story just right. No side is better than the other, and no side is worse than the other.

:)
Lovely story!
Damn this is wholesome.
So nice of you guys to share this with the world 😄
This is one of those movies that leave you in awe just forgetting everything around you but the movie it's amazing and I highly suggest watching it.
Can anyone ever just listen to this once?
nah, impossible
Once every second after listening to the song, yes. But just once in a lifetime? Nope.
I know whenever I hear a song from Mononoke, it immediately makes me want to watch it again. I'd say 70% of the time, I cave and pop it in the DVD player.
well I'd hear it again after re-watching so... the real question here is can anyone ever just watch Monohike Hime once?
Spike Spiegel I don't believe it's possible. Miyazaki and Hisaishi are that rare and perfect combination, that brings out the best in each other. At least they are in my opinion haha. See you, space cowboy.
This piece, Howl's Moving Castle main theme, Spirited Away's 'the name of life' and 'sixth station' are my all time favourite Ghibli studio masterpieces.
that was the best movie i've ever seen
Princess Mononoke is one of the few films about nature/environmentalism that never runs into the problem of becoming too preachy. There are no real villains, just people trying to survive however they can. I think the core message is that while we have to be mindful of our environment, humans will inevitably keep evolving and moving forward. The world is never black and white, and Princess Mononoke does an incredible job of exploring both perspectives. I feel like Miyazaki is one of the few directors who really understands what it means to be human.
You know, for a PG-rated film, this film is so violent! I mean, this guy's arms get sliced clean off by an arrow and two other guys get beheaded!
Georyx It's PG-13 here in the States.
@@somedeerboi 14A here in Canada.
Yeeeah.. started showing to my 7 and 8 y/o and took it out with all the brothel talk and blood. I didn't remember all of that before I was a parent
In America it’s PG-13
America: whoa! Way too gory. Let’s rate this 14a
Japan: oh a head gets cut off? Hmm, not gory enough. PG should be fine~
My top studio Ghibli:
1. Princess Mononoke
2. Nausicaä of the Valley of the wind
3. The Grave of the Fireflies
4. Spirited Away
5. Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro
6. Laputa: Castle in the sky
7. Tales from Earthsea
8. Howls Moving Castle
9. Porco Rosso
10. Secret World of Arriety
Wait how is Howl below Earthsea?
My Neighbor Totoro isn't even on the list?

this song makes me cry cuz it brings back good memories...
Same event happened with me, but the movie was When Marnie was There (Omoide no Marnie).
This isnt just a movie. Its an experience. Ive never seen animism captured so well in a piece of art
i remember watching this film back in 1997 as a kid, one of the few movies i saw as a kid that has stayed with me forever
Princes mononoke is realease in 1999..
Jérémy Fontenelle sorry Jeremy, it's very much 1997, look it up
It's from 1997. If you have an original copy, the copyright of 1997 will definitely or most likely show.
1999 was 'My neighbours, the yamadas' which was a weird film with weird animation.
Cecilia Cornejo Mine too=
We will get one last Myazaki Film in 2019 apparently
I loved Totoro but then I rewatched it recently and realised how terrible the ending is. It was okay if there was a sequel but not as a single film. It was not bad but it was an odd way to end a decent film.
Red Turtle was weird and made no sense but then it was written by some dutch people an not the great Miyazaki.
Well he give us The Wind Rises which is a good way to say goodbye
You should check out Makoto Shinkai!! He is the top spot director right now in Japan and his movies are so Mind-Blowing to see
yep, I had a good childhood
A beautiful one
*smoking cigarrete* Alejandro Silva? Haven't heard that name in a long time
Just beautiful.
One of my favorite films. Beautiful score, story and characters. I will forever love this film.
2018! Still watchin, still lovin, the best movie, sounds and story of all time!
I was so lucky to have been shown this amazing piece of art as a kid. I watched it religiously and probably will for the rest of my life, The soundtrack, the visuals, the message of the movie will always have a special part in my heart. I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it :)
I swear, every time I listen to any sort of Ghibli soundtrack I get goosebumps like crazy.
It's something that only Master Miyazaki can do !😊
One of the best music I ve ever heard
Princess Mononoke is my favorite Hayao Miyazaki film. The messages and emotions it conveys are incomparable.
This is the very first movie I saw when I moved in alone. It.. Somehow.. changed me.
Did it turn you into a weeaboo? ;)
hahaha clearly not
+Alicia Raynal (WonderfulAcid) soooo..... you are now a colossal headless deer? :V
I always watch movies like these alone. It makes you connect more with the movie.
Did your arm get infected by a life threatening demonic infection?
The male protagonist of this movie is so badass
Local Ashitaka man literally too badass to die from a bullet shot on his back
@Etcetera I see. Thanks for the information
his name is right there
San is the proof that you aren't born good or bad, you are taught what is good and bad.
***** Well said! :) I salute you!
There is no good or bad.
... which is why I said taught...
Yeah but is there really good or bad. It is a matter of perspective based on your background.
AGAIN that's why I said taught
It's not a song it's a piece of art
All songs are pieces of art
We need more animes like this!
Princess Mononoke is not my favorite Ghibli film, but I firmly believe that it has the most powerful and moving soundtrack of any Ghibli film, and possibly any other film, ever made.
For me, the movie to take that role is Spirited Away.
Agree on the soundtrack, but what is your favourite film if not Princess Mononoke?
Ko S Howl's Moving Castle
Stephen Patterson ah of course
Spirited Away
1:13 "You can paint with all the colors of the wind"
Totally
😂
YES OMG SAME VIBES
I loved the moments of them showing Ashitaka riding through the the lush green forests, across these beautiful green mountainous landscapes!
And this music was very hearttouching!
Really accentuated the beauty of Princess Mononoke!
This one, along side with almost all ghibli movies will always remain a timeless classic, watching them making all others animated movie lately kind of underrated, they probably not bad, but they are not teaching you anything
The guns will rust. Grass will grow, and there'll be nothing left of any of this.
The land will heal itself, as everything does in the end.
I cried at least once on every Miyazaki film and their soundtracks
This is such a beautiful piece. I cry whenever I listen to it, no matter where I am or what I am doing at that moment.
What a journal, musical and visual. Such beauty.
Les frissons que cette musique me donne sont incroyable :') I love it !

Jesus christ this movie was a rollercoaster of emotions. Simply splendid 👌
All glory, laud, and honor to Jesus Christ
God Damn i miss the old Times This Movie makes me Always cry what a Masterpiece
When Ashitaka says goodbye to his sister 🥺
Edit: I just learned she isn’t his sister!
Here is what it says in Ghibli Wiki -
“Though she calls Ashitaka ‘brother’ (jap. anisama), she is actually his bride-elect, and sister in English dub.
According to Hayao Miyazaki, Kaya was already pregnant to Ashitaka, and the legend of Ashitaka was passed on by their descendants.”
wait so are they like married now
...what??? And here I thought Ashitaka had a thing for Mononoke
She's 8
@@rohanrodrigues7115 of course he did ^^ he liked her even though he was kind of.. engaged.
This genuinely just made me cry. Absolutely stunning
I am always fascinated by the fact that music is so powerful, its just... there is nothing you can compare film music with its so great!
Classical music
Beautiful music, beautiful movie. I love Princess Mononoke 😭❤️❤️
I love this movie. I even sing the song to my daughter.
I also love Castle in the Sky, another Miyazaki film. The studio ghibli films that he is not the director of are still awesome. However i believe his ones are just a class above!
Have you seen the Takahata films? I think they're the best of Ghibli actually
Studio Ghibli always manages to put a tear to my eye. The music is so powerful, it is emotional. I love Studio Ghibli.
I get goosebumps listening to this. I love the feeling it gives you. So heartfelt and kind, yet it is also bold and majestic.
Brings back so many memories.

What to be flabbergasted and rendered speechless? Witness creative genius at its best with this masterpiece. Feel your heart tear as you realise that joy comes at a price and at times it is phyrric.

This was my childhood movie, what a masterpiece I love it
So gorgeous and so very, very nostalgic.
Literally just finished watching this movie. It's my first "real" anime (don't ask what is a "fake" anime)
Words cannot describe it. It's just pure art. I love every second of this movie. I can't complain about a single thing.
If you haven't already, watch it. It's worth your time.
thanks hisaishi for once again making everyone cry
Something about this film makes you feel nostalgia even if you can’t remember seeing it before now. Anyone else feel that way
This is a beautiful music piece.
Merci pour le partage ! A jewel of music !
As a kid i called the demons ''the spaghetti monster''
Day 15: I’ve had a really rough day today, my mother’s best friend died to heart failure and my grandpa is on his deathbed, I can’t believe I haven’t cried.
