I’m only into this interview about 30 minutes but what stood out to me is you’re both heroes but the fact that you’re both humble is admirable and speaks volumes of both of your characters. I’m really enjoying your podcasts so far!

Wow! Hard to believe it's been almost 50 years ago now...and I trained my GSD's with the trainer for the local Sheriff Department K-9 unit. The first 3 hours every Saturday morning was socializing all the dogs, including the K-9 dogs with babies around, strollers, kids running around, lots of other (all types of breeds) dogs and adults. The actual training time came next and was local civilians paying for our dog training, then we could stay while the K-9 unit dogs came out for suited up bite work training for those of us going through protection training with our dogs. I cannot recall the name of the trainer, except he was from Germany, had a heavy German accent, and was a serious task master! It was get the softness toward my dogs worked out of me or quit the program...no joke!
    Interesting guest!

The k9 unit in my area has a beast. Going shopping one day, i had to walk past the patrol car. I was like 20 feet away and this dog lost its mind! As hard as it hit the window, i was afraid it was going to break. The window was down just enough for me to see teeth and dog slobber flinging out of it. I just ignored it and kept walking. But other people were making a very WIDE circle 😂😂 The dog then targetted THOSE people instead of me. Dog knew who looked suspicious. 😊

Nothing worse than someone with no goals or aspirations.

Agreed, dogs are more awesome than people. Edit: had a question, found the answer in transcripts. PS The stories are charged and emotional as a listener..dogs pics would complement that if possible. PSS appreciate the realness. Hard to find today.

Not real sure about the way these dogs are being used. Its more of a hindrance with dogs like this and seems more like ego and young boys than professionals. Definitely not the way we go about it, maybe they dont have the talent to teach dogs more effectively, anyone can make dogs attack everyone there is no skill in that. Call a guy a wussy because your dog tries to bite him. No respect for civilians they are why do what we do. So different from how we are. Im not sure who is the bad guys here with such poor attitudes from professionals' seems so un disciplined.

    • @GarretWing

These Rangers are the epitome of professionals. They have a very tough job to do and do it with grit and determination. It might not be pretty, or elegant, but they get the job done every time. Like the other commenter, I have no idea what you're saying. And no, not just anyone can make dogs "attack" it's actually a VERY difficult thing to teach.
