There's plenty of the original line-up in The Orchestra. Kelly Groucutt (1975-), Mik Kaminski (1973-) and Louis Clark (1974-) then the rest of the guys are from ELO Part II, originally started by Bev Bevan. You're right though, they DO sound good. To be honest, the video I took doesn't do them justice. Seeing them live is a great experience.
I've been hunting around for footage of Gordon Townsend playing a drum solo, tinkering around or talking drums but can't find anything! Beware of drummers with small kits. I learnt a long time ago that they're usually awesome!
There's a lot of stupid things said about The Orchestra but the facts are:- Half the band were members of ELO in it's heyday and they sound far better "live" than ELO ever did. All the critics should get along to see and hear this band before starting the "Jeff Lynne this - Jeff Lynne that" thingy! I've been a fan of ELO since it's formation in 1971 and have never heard them sound so good. (It's great to see Phil Bates back as well. Excellent performer!!)
@kingofallwhites Phil Bates is an exceptional musician in his own right and has been with ELO Part II and The Orchestra since 1993. He's certainly not "pretending" to be anyone.
Half? come on! Kaminski and Groucutt hardly make half of ELO! and considering Clark only arranged strings on the studio albums, as for sounding better live well thats a matter of opinion! but I will say this they are hard working musicians who have kept the flame and spirit of ELO alive, whilst Uncle Jeff Would rather sun his arse in California
It's certainly no 'cover' as you call it. When it's the original band members playing, how can it be a cover ? As for 'bad', I think you may need your hearing checked.
so true i once had a drummer show up for audition with 3 drums and he blew us all away
Excellent performance, especially Gordon. Perfect timing. Pay close attention to the last 15 seconds.
Thanks
