I just have to say, that canvas/leather strap you always show seems to me like the watch equivalent of a professor’s tweed jacket with elbow patches! 😃
Great review 👍. I bought this model for my wife, because below £350 there are only two proper quartz dive watches small enough for a woman to wear comfortably, this and the Tissot Sea star ladies 36mm. My wife actually preferred this to the Tissot which cost 50% more and she hasn't stopped wearing it since Christmas, it's a great watch for a small wist 👍
That's great. I like how consistent Citizen has been with these watch models. They keep making it the same. Keep making new colors. And now, a new size. I do wish they'd switch to sapphire crystal.
I’ve always preferred citizen eco-drive over any other quartz. They are proven tanks that last for decades. Much better value for your money over seiko imo.
I got this watch awhile back. I have a 6.25 inch wrist and most divers are too big for me, even though I love them. I have a Seiko Turtle and while it's a great watch, it is way too big for me. When I first got the Citizen I didn't like, it is small. I decided to try it for awhile so put it on and went to work. For the first two hours I wasn't impressed and had buyers remorse. After that, it became a perfect watch. Tough, durable, great lume, eco-drive, and loved its no nonsense. No flash, no, pizzazz, no BS. That tank went straight to work and is now my favorite dive watch. I can count on it, great size for me, and a work horse. The bezel action isn't great but it lines up so it's a non issue. Plus, it's not like I sit there turning the bezel several times a day. What it lacks in flair, it makes up for in durablility. Highly recommend for smaller wrists.
I bought this watch on a whim as a summer/pool watch, and I have to say, it is simply superb and has sneakily become my daily wear. The proportions are a bit odd with the deep rehaute and the date is useless, but otherwise I love this watch. (M, 6.25” wrist, btw). Great video too!
I would say Seiko did a good job with the SNE solar dive watch, Black Green Blue and a Padi edition black with baby blue accents, 38mm with a lug to lug of 47mm and only 10.6 thick with ok hold on to something sapphire crystal and 200m water resistant … now this is around 400.00 for a quartz but solar sapphire and ISO standards not to bad
Great review! I love my Promaster EO2020-08E! Had to get one to replace my BN0150-10E, as I am a fan of smaller watches, especially smaller Diver's watches. I also got an EO2022-02A for my wife.
I have the original version in the same color. It's my daily driver. Love this watch for all the reasons you mentioned, but I love that mine runs plus two seconds A MONTH.😉👍🏼
Citizen and Seiko are my favorite watch brands. I can't understand why Citizen doesn't put the eco-drive in the NY0040 case size. I love that 41mm case size, but I prefer eco-drive better than mechanical.
I actually really love that this wears a little smaller. It’s super hard to find sub 38mm dive watches in the affordable price range. I always thought that was weird, for some reason affordable brands don’t make very many 34 to 36 mm watches.
I highly recommend trying this one on in person at a brick and mortar shop (and buying from them if you like it). I have a small 6.25” wrist and usually wear 36mm field and dress watches and I found that it was a little too small for my taste because the dial is so small on a dive watch design relative to the case size. I preferred the standard 44mm Promaster which surprisingly did not feel too big. Sizing is obviously going to be very personal so I encourage you to try it on if you’re interested. The blue is remarkably attractive in the light though. A 38 or 40mm model might be just the sweet spot but I suspect 44mm is still going to work for a ton of people.
Completely agree with the size. When this watch was first announced, I thought this would be my perfect tool watch. I have a 6.25 wrist btw. When I saw it in person, I realized that it was too small even for my wrist. Seiko SNE 575 is 38.5mm but this Citizen looks even much smaller than that due to the proportion of the watch. The bezel on this is very thick.
I think the Seiko is a little bit better in proportion. Got an SNE583 to review a bit ago. Hopefully, have that out soon. I was just shocked those little solar divers actually come with sapphire.
@@RelativeTime Oh yeah.. I meant to write that the Citizen looked so much smaller compared to the Seiko despite being only 2 mm smaller. I will be waiting for your Seiko review. Always appreciate your watch reviews.
Thanks for the great review! It is funny how watches wear. I just got my SKXMOD for my A168, and the Mod version wears much bigger than the original. And that was one of the things I didn’t like about the original. It wore too small. I need to pay more attention to Citizen… Thanks!
Seiko SNE573 diver is a 38.5mm, solar, and looks good enough to wear with a suit. Another good option for small wrists that even looks good on my 7 1/4 inch wrist.
I can't believe I'm saying this, being a guy who thinks 36-38 mm is the perfect size range for a 7.5" wrist, but I do think this is too small for this watch, at least for all but the smallest wrists. I think 40mm would be a great " small" case size.
I was excited by the color scheme, but its diameter to thickness plus the small dial looked odd even on my 6.5” my wrist. P.S. BB54 scratched my itch for a small diver.
I think the BB54 has better proportions for a diver this size. Or at least the San Martin homage I tried recently. That one seemed a little small, but I was good with it. Whereas this one just seemed too small.
Bought one of these for my wife about 6 months ago. 135.00 brand new how to get to blue one at the time waiting for a pink one to come up for me to get for her also. I have the red green blue sold the black of the normal size.
Why do some low/mid-range Citizens and Casios show a "fuzzy" edge to the hands? It's almost like they were die cut with a dull blade. Look at the tip of the seconds hand at 2:12. Yuck.
It's not just them, I seen plenty from many brands like that at this price range and above. Although to be fair, that isn't really something you see in person typically... Usually need a macro lens or a microscope in order to start seeing that. So it typically doesn't hurt your enjoyment too much.
For me the strap choice color is infamous. It makes look the whole watch childlike and cheap. Hands are not terrible but doesn't enhance the overall watch appearance, which is a big missed opportunity. Size is perfect for small wrist sizes as a lot of dudes and most women.
Tnis watch doesn't work on an average size male's wrist. With wide bezel, optically the dial is miniscule. This watch is appropriate for a more delicate female wrist who is sporty in nature who likes wearing a dive watch now and then. I do like Citizen as a brand. I own the larger size version of this watch in black however with Japanese market only stainless strap with sliding clasp which transforms the watch. For the money, the aesthetic and performance of this watch with Egodrive is hard to match. I may prefer my Quartz 300m Tuna with stainless bezel and polished bling shroud fractionally but not by a lot. For those with average size wrist like me, consider the BN-0150 and if you can find the Japanese market strap designed for this watch, you won't be disappointed.
Technically Citizen classifies it as a women's watch, but most of the colors are pretty unisex. So a lot of male slim wristed enthusiasts are also buying it.
I don't think it's a majority of watch enthusiasts who want to go fully smaller, just a vocal minority. So it will probably be like a pendulum. It will get to a point where enough people complain to go back, and we will start swinging that way.
I just have to say, that canvas/leather strap you always show seems to me like the watch equivalent of a professor’s tweed jacket with elbow patches! 😃
LOL yeah, I can see that. For this one, I used it because I don't have as many 18mm straps. That one was there and I said.. why not. Lets try it.
So Shane is a professor of watches!

I agree... my 36mm Tudor 1926 (dress watch) wears a tad small, but reasonable. I tried a 36mm Breitling Super Ocean and look TINY!

Vaer has a 38mm solar dive watch with sapphire for similar price. I definitely prefer the Vaer. It has a mil-Seamaster look.
Yup, I talk about that at the end. That probably be the direction I'd go for a small solar diver.
The vaer smokes the citizen
@@RelativeTime Apologies - I had missed the last 30 seconds of the video. I guess great minds think alike :-)
Tried both. Vaer is much heavier and lume on citizen is better. Bezel action also better on the citizen.
This Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster EO2028-06L became my summer watch. My automatic Promaster in titanium gets too hot and makes my skin dark.
The nearest equivalent Seiko would be the Solar "Mini Tuna" SUT403P1. However these have been discontinued, sadly.
Purpose built for desk divers ☀️
Well they built it for the ocean, but yeah, most will never see a pool let alone the ocean. 😀
😂😂
I gotta time my hard boiled eggs like the next guy…..

Seiko Prospex 38mm solar diver out there too, its slimer with more of a seiko-isk submariner vibe
Shane, have enjoyed your reviews and have now subscribed. Seiko also makes solar divers, i.e. SNE585.

What size is the strap i wonder? 17mm?
Just a point, the 60 click bezel is a standard because this is ISO certified.
Don't most modern seiko's have 120 click and are also iso certified?
@@RelativeTime they make both but not sure if they use ISO or a different one.
