  • I don't care if this ruffles some feathers - this is the most anti-consumer move I've ever seen in the knife industry and somebody needs to call this out.
Definitively a brain fart to say it was 9 thousandths and not 9 hundredths lol. I get so used to saying thousandths because I'm measuring behind the edge thickness that my brain went on autopilot for wording there.

As far as ridiculous markups are concerned, Shirogorov must be the craziest! I have purched 5 clones of Shirogorov knives, made by Green Thorn, for about $50 each. They are not marked Shirogorov, so I don’t consider them to be fakes. Guess what? The clones are IDENTICAL to the originals, in terms of quality, action, and is most other ways, FOR 1/20 (5%) OF THE COST OF THE ORIGINAL… Talk about ridiculous markups! That said, no doubt costs are higher in Russia than in China, but it’s hard to pay $1000, for what is readily available for $50! That said, I did buy an original Shirogorov knife recently (a Quantum Ursus), brand new, and guess what? I don’t like it all that much…

I bought a Kubey tityus with anodized micromilled titanium handles and hardware and 14c last week for $92 USD ($150 AUD). I understand some wouldnt buy their products for reasons, but that's the contrast we're faced with as consumers.

These idiot consumers will totally buy it rofllmao!!!!1!!!11!!!"

@@Ash__7 because if a company like this can get away with these insane price hikes, then other companies will eventually decide to jack their prices up even more, too. And even though I have no interest in buying this knife, I still find it ridiculous and insulting for Benchmade to act like this is reasonable. I want so badly to support American made stuff but if their answer to the foreign competition is gonna be this, then they’re digging their own graves and that is bad for the country.

There’s a dealer on Facebook that said he had 6 of these Bailouts and claims to have already sold them all. A commenter on another video said he heard that Benchmade hired a consultant. And that consultant recommended that they raise the prices of their knives so that they would be perceived as a more premium product. I also wonder how much of this is due to Jon deAsis taking over as CEO after the passing of his father. I think he is trying to put his own stamp on the company.

What other American companies are making titanium knives all machined in America that are the same blade thickness more competitive? I like M4 a lot. I bought the 180 dollar version. You can get Flytanium scales for any version. Limited editions have been going for ridiculous markup in the secondary market. Para 3 M4 etc. I have the M4 Freak, bought on release day for 180 it is still worth 300 in the secondary. I only buy American Made, I’m from Oregon, and I do buy expensive knives, but probably not this titanium benchmade.

I bought the OG bugout in 2018 for 114$. They now want 180$ and that before tax and shipping. I bought my 3v bailout new on Knife Swap for 125$. I would buy the nicest Ti scales from rock island for 200$ and be way happier.

Benchmade has went absolutely crazy with their prices. Tbh prices for USA are a bit ridiculous in general but Benchmade have went much much too far.

So glad someone else is saying this out loud. #Benchmade #Blasted A massive WorkTuff knife is a fraction of the price of this Benchmade. As is a custom TJ Schwartz Overland fixed blade or production variety Bradford Guardian.

Benchmade has a monthly contest where someone wins a knife. I wonder if anyone actually wins a knife, or if it's just a scam. Has there been any winners?

    Good morning, brother!
Benchmade have lost me completely. The Bugout family of knives had already been more expensive over here in Germany, so the increase NOW is even more severe. The Narrows starts around 570€ (600$ Plus x) and I'm a bit hesitant to search for the Ti Bailout.
Only a week ago my latest knife hit the shelves (Titanium Slipjoint with Böhler's M390) for 220€. Less than just the up charged price from BM without the scales... It's completely nuts!
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
    Greetings from Germany!
    Andi

Instead of the Bugout, check out the Hogue Deka 2. It's extremely similar to the Bugout, made in the US, has Magnacut steel and a crossbar lock. You can usually get them for about $140 USD. They have a weird Wharncliffe style and a standard drop point style.
I've used mine for everything for a year and a half, and it's like new. Thin, light, well built, with better steel for significantly lower cost.

@@adx442 thank you so much for the recommendation! I really like the looks of the Deka and it seems to be a great choice, but it's not so easy to find tor a decent price here in Germany. But I'm going to keep my eyes open. 👌🏻
