Love those Dorset buttons! I hadn't thought of a bullion knot though. The shop in Auckland NZ is the Ribbon Rose, where they have a fabulous range of embroidery resources. Thanks for an interesting video, Ariane
I am completely flabbersomething about the number of video's you made! Unbelievable! They are all so interesting to watch, all of them! This Dorset button is new to me and I will absolutely make them . Thank you for all the lessons!
I had no idea Dorest Buttons even existed! But I have some little rings and now I have my first Dorest Button done. Thank you so much! I'm captivated by zinnias currently and I think these will find there way into a couple! I appreciate your videos tremendously.
The little rings I found when I open a water bottle and break the seal it leaves a little plastic ring so I have been collecting those and I have quite a few now I just thought I’d share for anybody that buys water when you break the seal the little ring that’s left behind off the Makes an excellent Dorset button ring
They are often quite flexible though, which isn't ideal. Better if you can to find brass or plastic curtain rings, or a small metal bangle for a larger size DB. Oh, and always keep the tiny rings off old bras as they make the best delicate, authentic Dorset buttons when worked with very fine crochet cotton or buttonhole thread, although they are fiddly to do at that size!
Thank you for this Demo. Doing it in different threads and weights is very helpful. What I love best is that your videos is that they are always there to refer to. My only drawback is that I am not left handed.
Hi Ariane, I believe I met you in 2015 or so at Pat Pauly’s class in MA! Your backdrop looks like the techniques we learned. I’d seen the Dorset Buttons on Quilting Arts TV and just googled it… what a surprise to see your name pop up. I 💕 your buttons with the variety of textures & colors of threads. I may have to try these sometime as they really intrigued me. Could be a special decoration for a handmade garment! Thank you for sharing your talents. (Are you still making jewelry too?).
Hi! Yes, I love Pat and when I began stitching on linen asked her to do some printing on linen, which she did and now carries in her shop. I gave up my jewelry studio several years ago. Thanks so much for reaching out. Tell me how those Dorset buttons go. They’re a lot of fun. ❤️
Thank you for youtube film.😊 I'm new to Dorset buttons and would like to make some for a cardigan which was left to me by a dear relative. I have a few questions- if you don't mind🤞 Why is blanket stitch turned to centre and not left on outside where it would make edge of button longer lasting? Why is it blanket stitch rather than buttonhole stitch - which would last better? As on tailored garments. Do you get sore elbow tendons from pulling the length of thread/wool through with each stitch? Best wishes, Alison
Hi Alison, these are great questions! So here goes: you do not need to turn it inward and I often don’t, it depends on what I’m going to be using it for. Use either stitch, it won’t make a difference. And I cannot remember your final question, so I’ll have to answer in a second response. ❤️
@@ArianeZurcher212 yes it was u were showing us the lovely bead case someone recommended!! I believe it had blue tops on the small individual sections!
What is the purpose of doing a blanket stitch if you will not be using those knots in your design? Can you not just wrap the threads around, without doing the full blanket stitch?
Wrapping thread around a ring will be very difficult to control and even harder to keep tight, but give it a shot and see what happens and then report back. ❤️
You'll get a bit of an unsightly dip where the ring starts and ends, so much better to find brass or plastic curtain rings, or a small metal bangle for a larger size DB. Oh, and always keep the tiny rings off old bras as they make the best delicate, authentic Dorset buttons when worked with very fine crochet cotton or buttonhole thread, although they are fiddly to do at that size!
Hi Shelley, thank you for your thoughts on this. It's always a tough balance to go quickly enough that people don't get bored, yet slow enough so that those who are trying to follow along can still do so without getting too frustrated. For this reason I will be shooting a new video focussing on Dorset Buttons that will go much slower. Once I have it up on my website, I'll let people know. All the best, Ariane

I bought some things from them. If I lived closer, I would purchase more! Dorset buttons have an endless amount of possibilities! ❤️
Thanks for showing. Now I know where the little rings in my granny's box are for. I'm going to try it myself 🌹
Ha! Yes. There are always a few of those in every Granny's sewing box!! ❤️
What a great way to make buttons for hand knit sweaters and shawls.

does the button size matter??
No unless you are using a very heavy thread in which case it will be hard if not impossible to wrap on a very small ring. ❤️
