I just started at Fedex Ground yesterday and was almost appalled at the size of the packages! I was very surprised to see how it was very doable to deliver the amount of packages in an 8-hour day as we did; not to mention I was surprised at how doable it was to deliver a 150 lb package by oneself. It is not easy! that's for sure - but it is doable; it just takes extra time and technique. My trainer tells me it's all about sliding the package as much as possible. ... I am looking forward to getting my own nursery route finally. The step vans are big but I know you get a feel for them quickly; plus there is the 360-view camera there for you to look at. I am totally up for the challenge of doing a full route on my own. ... at any rate, I have mad respect for Fedex drivers! The GM of my company is a woman who used to be a driver, and she told us about how she delivered a full sized mattress to a second story apartment all by herself one time! lol. that is just epic
Finally someone with a god vid. I really enjoyed this. Im coming from Amazon dsp and see thats its a job postig on the DOT position/swing. I think i'll apply.
Cool video...I'm from the BAY Area, CA....wish I had applied there...just got hired as Courier DOT for FedEx Express...1st driving job, nervous & excited!!! Cool video!!!!
Hey Chris! I’m in Sacramento! I got hired just waiting back for the background and stuff. I will have routes in ELK Grove. How is the benefits? Is it cheap? And how do you like it so far. How many hours are you working? Sorry for all the questions
@@tnCEO2023 Hey, no problem! Benefits are good if you're single (which I am); not sure how they are if you have kids. I think they're fairly cheap, but I'd have to look again. It's been decent! My station is around 55ish hours a week right now - a lot of OT. I'm usually coming in at 7:30am and getting off work at 7:30pm, sometimes later. Mondays is usually 6:30am to 7:30pm, since my station dispatches earlier (yours may be different). Best thing I can tell you is when you finally do get put on-road, take your time, make sure your freight is sorted (alphabetize your packages and docs by street name), so you can grab and go, and don't rush yourself - that's how you make mistakes, have a misdelivery, etc. Speed will come with time.
@@chriscarpenter1703 wow so your really doing 12 hours. I know they said peak season will suck. Here it’s only $18/hr which kind of sucks. I also got hired for Amazon for $19.50 but I know it’s 300 packages vs 150. Thanks for the insights man. Also I just found out today that is ground and not express. Not sure if that makes a differences. They said FedEx is easier then Amazon because our routes here are smaller and in one location. Amazon have you driving around all over the place in a day. I’m debating if I should go with 4 day work week 10 hours a day or FedEx 5 days a week lower packages and lower pay? 🤦♂️
As of last month our managers made us sign a contract agreeing that we would take two breaks while out even if we could get back in time before a HOS violation. May have something to do with our station having a lot of accidents...?
i just applied for the Shuttle DOT driver. what exactly do they do? i read the description but i want more detail in the day to day life. i believe the shift was from 6am-6pm mon-fri but i just can’t grasp what exactly they do. i figure its better than delivering bc i used to deliver for amazon and i just hated it.
When I first started I found it easiest to sort the packages in order by the stop number on each package however that would mean that I would have to usually revisit places because of priority packages. Once I got familiar with my route I sorted the truck by general area so I could knock out p1 and p2 together. However, I heard that there is a new system/routing in place now. I quit in the fall of 2022.
@@CAUZMO Are you referring to like the numbers 1-10 or 11 on those yellow tags that correspond with shelf/floor sections for the order, or just going off of Leo? I'm a contractor for Fedex Custom Critical. About 3 weeks ago I bought some Fedex stock since the price went down from over $300 per share. Thanks to all you Fedex employees for doing a great job daily. I'm confident I will make a nice profit when the economy and world gets to be in a stable place. I'm patient. It could take a year or more.
@@Unknown_Ooh You are clueless. Look at the price history of FDX. I will sell this stock at that top of the cycle, if you even know what a cycle is. I know the transportation business, I know our brand, which is the largest air freight company in the world. They handle more tons than any other carrier. I'd love to bet you I will profit 30% or more. I've been investing my own money since '97 and made out very well. I have owned Honeywell for over 8 years. Never sold it because I don't need the cash I collect my dividend and it up over 400%. When I bought Google in 2005, amd sold it a couple years later I bought a brand new van for cash with my profits. So just up and go back to sleep.
Are you allowed to drive with the drivers door slid open? I read that somewhere on Reddit but can’t confirm. I applied to express and did dot physical awaiting background check now. Watching videos to see what it’s like
You can for FedEx Ground. Express allows the passenger side door to be open when driving but not the driver side door. A lot of drivers for Express drive with the driver door open anyways.
I wouldnt say that, i worked at ground for 4 years ground has more heavier packages on a regular basis but other than that they have ground cloud and freedom, i have been at fedex express for about 3 months and its way harder mentally. they put you through alot of tests and not only that, older equipment, you are forced to learn the area because their gps system is way outdated and cannot be relied on. Everybody around me here has been here for 10 to 35 years not months to 5 years is considered long at ground. At express you are an employee you get the benefits and with that comes the professional expectations. Ground helped me get to this level, but believe me express is not a push over like you think. As of right now out of the last 5 ground guys that tried it im the only one who didnt go back to ground and thats a fact.
Don’t get it twisted. It depends on what route you have, the general area in which the station serves, and the state of your station. I work at the Huntsville AL station (HSV) and since I transferred there our problem is that we’re never consistently fully staffed, and some routes need to be fixed because they have way too much volume. So some of us have to help cover routes that have way too many stops, and some have routes that hardly ever get help so you can work 12 hours and still bring about 10-40 stops back!
So much better than FedEx Ground. I just applied 🙏🏽
Yes sir! A couple of my friends from work that use to work at ground said Express is much better.
Hows it going? Did you get the job? Thinking about doing the same lol

whats the diff with DOT courier and ground fed-ex?
So, when you’re done you can take off and go home? Doesn’t matter if you finish early?
Depends on route. If your route has pickups that are scheduled for later in the day you have to stay out.
