Just had the chance to ride this loop over the weekend, and it was amazing. The gravel climbs were legit, but the scenery and fresh air kept it enjoyable, and the tailwind back to the start was awesome. It felt like I was riding an e-bike at times. Thanks for creating these guides. I love exploring, and it makes it a little easier when riding somewhere new if I've already had a detailed scouting report from GBC.
On our Send It ride a year later, the weather wasn't as perfect as the area around Bixby was foggy, but no complaints as you can tell it's still very epic. Definitely feels longer than a twenty mile ride.
Very nice video, that's a favorite ride of mine. Just a note for accuracy to help anyone who might want to seek this ride out, the start spot is Andrew Molera State Park, not 'Molena'. Regardless, great video, great channel.
Wow! That looks spectacular. Had the pleasure of experiencing that sublime tailwind when doing the Big Sur marathon many moons ago, except it was a headwind lol 😊 Thanks for another great vid!
Thanks for the inspiration. I rode the Old Coast Road from Bixby to Molera as a detour on a Carmel to Cambria ride. Well worth the trip! Although it's impossible to get lost, the video was reassuring recon.
Thanks so much for another fantastic route suggestion and video. Living in San Luis Obispo, this trip is close by and now on the list of rides to experience.
Looks like a great ride! I once started driving up it from the Bixby side but chickened out a ways in as I didn't want to end up in the ravine. Will check it out on the bike thanks to this handy guide!
Thanks for helping me explore all the riding that CA has to offer!
...and thanks for the support. Keep sharing your thoughts as you knock these routes off.

I've always wondered where that dirt road behind the Bixby bridge led to, now I know! Worth every smile per mile, place is be u ti full!!
A very high smile per gallon.

I caught myself doing that twice after I uploaded it.

And probably easier than that 26.2
One evening I almost didn’t have a low enough gear when we rode from Cambria to San Simeon into the wind 😳🌬
Rode Old Coast several times but always clockwise....The views are well worth the effort
I’ve ridden by on my road bike many times and had no idea this magnificent gravel route existed!! Thank You for showing the way 👏🏼👏🏼
Worth doing an extra loop if you have to
Just completed this route on a fine Friday. What a delicious ride. Thank you SO much for sharing!
Definitely an all-time favorite.

I was a bit worried about the conditions beforehand, but glad it was just a small bumpy section.
I rode Big Sur myself last year but not the gravel roads like you. It looks totally different experience. Very cool 👍
I'm definitely in the market to make the trip down to Cambria
I enjoy the narrations on all your videos. Keep it up!
Thanks. Been trying to speed it up a little lately.
I'm thinking of purchasing a gravel bike now
That's the right idea
gorgeous views what a great ride
Worth the trip

Worth the drive
I love the channel and I've been following everything here from Santos/SP, Brazil
Thanks for reaching out!

I think most of it is drivable with the big ascent the questionable part.
Awesome destination!
It's a must do.
Always love your videos but man this was a exceptionally cool one. Going to try and do a bike pack to each of these with just bike and trains
I wouldn't mind doing the loop from Monterey and doing the same section of highway twice to head south.
Wooh, I sure hope I will get to do this someday. Being partially paralyzed not sure if I could complete it, but I would definitely give it a try.
Even if you drive up there, definitely worth the visit
Great Video, thanks for sharing!
On my list of must dos.
Great!!!
Looks great - the ridewithgps file is not public -- can you flip it?
Thanks for catching that!
Looks awesome! Where is the start of the trailhead?
Map in the description, but Old Coast Coast is right across from Andrew Molera SP.
would you recommend this route on a bike with 28x1.35 tires and bikepacking bags?
You're going to need gearing for sure with the heavy climbs. I also think going from north to south is a bit tougher.
Coming from Arkansas with my electric bike- do you think an inexperienced rider can do this ride?
The two main climbs are in the teens, but hopefully the e-bike can mitigate it. The downhill can be fast but at least it's road width.
It's Andrew molera not molena
What was the total time of the ride?
You get sidetracked from the scenery, but probably just 2.5 - 3 hrs of just riding
@@GravelBikeCalifornia thank you so much. Going to plan it soon.
would you recommend i do this on my gravel bike or my hardtail?
Haines Canyon is such a wildcard under these conditions. If you have much better gearing on the MTB, that may be the choice.
@@GravelBikeCalifornia thx! i'll wait until the storms are a distant memory
Any bear sightings?
No..... Did see some deer.
Awesome
