  • I recently put on a “can you spot the bias?” exercise during a conference and was pleased to see participants point out all sorts of things. From the graphics used on the screen to the amount of time given to candidates to adjectives that some felt went too far, participants uncovered all sorts of problems.
    What do you spot? Add to the comments below.

    The funny thing about bias is when asked to look for bias, you'll be biased to find more. I am glad that at least people are acknowledging the media bias.

    News 📰 is something we consume. Therefore, just as with nutrition labels and movie ratings, I believe we need mandated posted ratings on commercial news sources so we know what we’re consuming. One part for how factual they are and whether sources are checked; another part for how left, right or neutral they are politically.
    I attribute a lot of our problems at present (division, unrest) to people being in media bubbles that confirm their biases. The media can be very manipulative.
    For example, 40% of American households watch Fox News. Media Bias Fact Check rates them as strongly Right-Biased due to editorial positions and story selection that favors the right. They also rate them Mixed factually and borderline Questionable based on poor sourcing and the spreading of conspiracy theories.
    MBFC rates CNN left biased overall based on editorial positions that consistently favor the left, while straight news reporting falls left-center through bias by omission. They also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to several failed fact checks by TV hosts. However, news reporting on the website tends to be properly sourced with minimal failed fact checks.
    MBFC rates MSNBC Left Biased based on story selection that consistently favors the establishment left. They also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to news hosts and the website producing 3 pants on fire claims.

      I am glad that there are still have some people who can look at the current news media soberly. Nowadays, the media will whitewash the facts because of their positions, which is called selective reporting. It is in this way that the public's emotions and judgments are guided to complete or change the direction of events. Especially in the era of mobile Internet, the sending and receiving of information is quite rapid. Many times, people's judgments are usually based on an inherent thinking, without thinking deeply about the reasons behind the incident. Some media with ulterior motives use this phenomenon to guide public opinion rather than restore the truth of the incident.

      Your right, people are stuck in their own media bubbles, flocking to hate whoever their media outlet says to hate, both sides do this and it's stupid the news is supposed to educate not influence

      @lisawoody1708 11 месяцев назад

      ... and who would decide the ratings? Who would check the facts? Who decides what's right, left, or neutral. Would you have the same position if someone whose views are opposite yours got to decide those things?

    • @opalessence4818
      @opalessence4818 11 месяцев назад

      @@lisawoody1708 Facts and bias can be checked objectively by any neutral third party. As mentioned above, Media Bias Fact Check (MBFC) seems to have developed a good system. If you haven’t yet, check out their website for the news sources you use and see what you think. Consumers should not have to take the extra step to find out this information. It should be clearly posted, just like nutrition labels and movie ratings are.
      News is not “entertainment.”
      People can think critically and draw their own conclusions and shouldn’t be told what to believe by a news outlet. Opinions aired should also be clearly labeled as such. Get back to old fashioned journalism and stop manipulating the public.

  • @EvaPopStar

    Only need to know their bias and reliability scores. You’re never gonna get a clean slate. But if you were playing the percentages for sure you want to know how biased the news reporting organization is and how reliable they are. What’s the arbiter of that. Well that can be debated. Perhaps the AP? But that’s right they’re biased as well. SMH

    #MediaBias is a hot topic these days, and this post sheds light on the issue. The mainstream media is accused of trying to provide positive coverage for Sleepy 😴 Joe while showing negative coverage of @realDonaldTrump. As journalists, it's crucial to stop 🛑 batting for either side and do our jobs. Let's strive for unbiased reporting and leave personal biases at the door.

      What are you talking about?
      You think of all the news outlets that FOX is the one who is most biased?
      Buddy, it may be time you stepped back and took a good long look in the mirror. 😢
      Projection and Denial is a common attribute in HYPOCRITES.
      If there was a scale of 0 to 100 with 100 being most biased and 0 being least biased, then MSNBC, CNN, CBS, & ABC would all rate around 90 to 100 on that scale...
      FOX would be around 60.
      It's absurd, bizarre even, that anyone can be so blind to their own brainwashing. 🥺🥺🥺
