This looks amazing, but being a demo I believe it captures what is possible in an optimum environment. It will be so exciting when all this functionality is actually incorporated into the game and they synergise together, rather than the current varied alpha/basic level implementations which kind of jut out and often don't work as well as intended. As much as it isn't a big factor in a 'space sim' I'm also really excited for the fauna/flora mechanisms shown here being more prolific through the universe! The attention to detail is what drew me to back this game in 2016. To this day its still the highest fidelity game I have seen, and the small things go a long way. Sure the road has been frustrating but I'm so happy to see all of this finally come to fruition. We have a long way to go still, but I feel like the intro into this development stage is coming to a close. Haven't played in about a year, but Starfield gave me the itch to reinstall.
This is a more realistic comment, understanding this is the VISION of Star Citizen. This was unfortunately, not ingame and was a pre-rendered video, and is more or less showing what they can potentially do in the future with this engine.
@@bellidrael7457 That was 100% in game, I don't know why you guys keep acting like it was CGI. There's so many live server quirks going on in the video, you can literally see the occlusion culling. The realtime reflections stop rendering in several shots when they leave the player FOV. 21:56 watch the reflections pop-in and out in the water near the shoreline. Then later at the end when they show the blood and sweat shader, look at how much Z-Fighting is going on. That's not prerendered. We also have the scene with them colliding with eachother from a different angle, also very clearly in game considering game logic is still going when they fire guns and sounds play. Can even see a stray physics object drop near the end. Several earlier shots with NPCs show NPCs walking into eachother and behaving just as weird as they do on live. The BIG difference between this and live is Scale which is what the preview channel is going to be for. This was done with a small testing group on a smaller scale server.
@@bellidrael7457 absolutely! My point was exactly that :) that’s a very hard vision to chase and that’s why things are not easy. I’m optimistic that they’ll be able to reach this level and beyond with time, we’ll just never know when 😅
A new gold standard for immersive media. After Star Citizen their will be the expectation from other publishers to match this kind of fidelity. In other words thank you CIG for pushing the industry forward. Without CIG we would be stuck with bottlenecked engines thus gimmick games. No AAA studio will again release a game like Bethesda's Starfield without incurring significant financial loss and being laughed out of the industry.
This isn't gold, this is platinum. And I doubt that any other game can achieve this level of fidelity for a looong time. Perhaps if they use the star engine where everything is build in. It would be pretty smart of CIG to commercialize the star engine, of course I don't know if they can since it was first cryengine and then lumberyard. license bs and all
Comparing Starfield to this is so dumb honestly. A ton of compute isn't even done on the client but the servers. That works bec. Star Citizen is an online MP game, while Starfield is a single player offline game. It's a silly comparison.
Beautiful demo. Loved the music as well. The planetary atmospheric and volumetric effects (clouds, sun shafts, shadows) are staggeringly good, they add so much to the character of the planets.
All I want is that this would get Warhammer 40k makeover. Play any faction, fight other factions, massive battles and the brutal universe with tons of discoverable planets and things.
Looks cool but I'll wait with singing my praises until I see all of this working real time in the fully populated PTU, the stuff that's already in there is of course pretty impressive.
@@Wylie288 quite a bit of it is in the game and is functioning to a reasonable extend yes and the seamless planet tech is without a doubt extremely impressive, however we have yet to see it all working together on the large scale that is needed for the game, which is why I added the specifications of "real time" and "fully populated PTU". And keep in mind that currently it's still very much possible to spawn and fall through the map or to get randomly ejected out of your ship into space etc. so I wouldn't say that "most of it" is actually fully implemented at this point as it does not perform on a level that would be satisfactory for a fully released game. Also especially stuff like complex physics simulations that are interacting with one another that also need to be synced between players are quite ambitious (well it's SC after all) especially when there're currently Bethesda level bugs still present in the code. Gotta wait and see how good the server mashing and entity streaming stuff works since all the rest kinda hinges on that but for now I'll wait until I can see how the game performs in the hands of the actual customers before I give any praise (as I do with all things these days).
love how they present the physics about water when ships fly by, then absolutly nothing happen 10 seconds later when the ships crash in each other and fall right into the same water 😅
Probably the greatest game engine demo I've ever seen. As a player and as a fan...I salute you, CIG. You have create an entire universe epicness. I can't wait to see everything implemented from this year's CitizenCon.
I was one of the first waves of backers when the very first announcements and fundraising campaigns were available in late 2012, I believe. I have told countless people who didn't have a clue what they were talking about that the technology needed to make this possible did not exist until they developed it. Most game devs get to use existing technology and make a game out of a kit of already developed tools. They literally created technology from scratch to do this. So not only were they developing a game, they were developing entire tools and technology, which takes a ton of time. If people want to play the game they originally backed then there was no other option but to be patient. I get it....the wait has been excruciating but we are almost there!
So far everything has been amazing! I know it's probably a little sanitised and in practice there's likely quite a few issues, but the new tech shown off looks incredible! Definitely a better start than I was hoping for. All I hope now is that most of what's being shown off is on the earlier side of the 12 months window they've given lol
Lots of people complaining about Star Citizen, but every video games should take exemple from it It might not work nor truly release one day, fail or success, you can find every reason you want but atleast they tried to push things further They gives us dreams, show us what video games could be, just like us when younger we would imagine how amazing games could be But THEY are trying to achieve this, instead of doing the same things again and again for an easy cash grabs (we're looking at you FIFA and COD), they are what the industry should have become And if it fails, we'll have to wait to get more powerful tools and more knowledge, someone will come and give it another try, that's how we evolved as a species : try, fail, research then repeat until we success in our goals
Hands down most incredible showcase they have put out. And they are know for wonderful videos. They are actually doing it. We still have a long way to go but I congratulate them one what they have achieved thus far. One day people this really will be the game we dreamed of.
This was such an amazing video from CIG. You can see all of the hard work they have put into this game and engine over the last 10 years. Props to them!
They were being honest in their display, with regards to how much they're pushing the engine. A few hiccups in a 23min seamless ride through several planets, ships, cities, stations, and Pyro (along with environmental destruction, atmospheric clouds, water physics, and day / night cycles), is hardly something to complain about.

Watching the Star Engine demo video I couldn't help but think how interesting it would be to sit in on some of the requirements decomposition discussions as they take the high-level requirements and derive development tasks, populate the backlog then roll into sprint planning. Some of the bullet point requirements I am sure have ended up generating hundreds or thousands of development tasks. Given the technical achievements on display, the initial backlog (assuming being able to take what the team knows now and go back to the starting point on some of these) would probably seem almost overwhelming. All would make for an interesting Sprint 1 planning session trying to figure out exactly where to start.
It makes me very proud and excited for the future seeing this - it really is incredible what CIG has achieved with all of us supporting them! Incredible

Lol it’s still a scam, they’ve taken so much money from people and the actual gameplay is so bare it’s not even funny. They keep drip feeding content to hype people up to get more preorders or sell more jpegs of ships. It’s not called Scam Citizen for a reason.
@@scottzeta3067it is not, you can literally log into the game and play it right now. Just because not everyone from a demo is in the game doesn't mean it's a scam, the demo is showing off possibilities, and most likely that they want to include most of these features if everything allows them to.
Gaming since the days of the C64 and this is genuinely the most impressive thing I think I've ever seen , knowing that this actual gameplay and not just a cinematic is mind blowing , here's to the day we can get the game to run as smoothly (and stable) as this , absolutely incredible work
I know this must be impressive for anyone to watch. But for original backers like myself that have been watching since 2013, it's hard to watch this without getting emotional. It truely is a masterpiece greater than anything I could have imagined and I can't wait to see where it goes from here.
@@Darkernorakelnthat is where SC is different. SC will have missions, via NPC and event-driven auto-generation. But the most fun you can have is off-the-cuff adventures with friends. Watch some of the gameplay vids, with capturing a falling player in another player ship’s cargo bay. Or the times orgs get together for some tank battles, planet-side. Or the racing circuit popularized after enough players had found some random geo feature and turned it into a competitive racetrack. Then CIG helped out with a few additions and now it’s actually something I don’t mind watching like I suppose others dig nascar. SC is where you make the adventures with a decently wide range of tools and features to help out. There are actually quite a few people who’ll just be career hobos, hitching rides to whatever exploration awaits. Leave the ship in the hangar and ask if anyone wants a crew member. Point is, most the fun is sans NPC guided missions.
@@freelancerthe2561You mean in a single player RPG that is not an MMO space sim? Sure please go ahead and try to explain why this comparison is warranted
This is pretty bonkers to be honest. I know the game has its challenges and it's questionable how long it's taken and how much money and with what methods that financing has been gathered etc, but there is no denying what this game and engine are going for is completely unique and novel. Something that has never been done before. If they eventually are able to pull off a decent working game out of it, it will be groundbreaking no matter what you think of it. As someone who has played games for a good while now, it's so unbelievably impressive to see where we have gotten with games.
the real tech that makes this at the end is the server meshing, so you can actually stuff content in here without breaking the server and database. and they showed a break through this weekend!!
You can say all you want about the crazy long development time, but this is the most ambitious Space Game ever build. I think it will redefine the Space genre, like Baldur's Gate 3 redefined CRPG's.

J.F.C.... I remember my young mind being blown seeing pong for the first time, and now here we are. Brings a little tear to the eye.
I think it would be amazing in making the worlds feel more dense and alive.
The conductor at the start of the video is the perfect nod to Wing Commander. Brought me way back to when I was a kid.
I have been waiting for this soooo long!! Plus, i's so cool to see the Spacewhales fly in the couds. Oh and Pyro of course.

bethesda games would have a lifetime long loading screens to get from your bed when you log in to finish a mission you wanna do one night you log in though
This is absolutely stunning. All of it.
Also the AI glitches, the lack of water splash when the gladius crash, the popping, etc. Not all of it, but they did amazing things.
when I saw the npcs walking into the fire I got very excited because that's definitely real gameplay lmao
Amazing trailer that’s shows the insane vision of Star Citizen and why it’s so hard to make… and I’m completely sold!

Seeing this live put me on the verge of crying. So beautiful, it has been a journey
Most of it is?
Of course this looks absolutely amazing and it's a wet dream for any gamer, but unless it's showing playable footage i'm not believing it.
It was without a doubt Breathtaking! Physical water was sooooo damn cool and damageable buildings as well.

This video truly shows how and why this game is taking so long to make. Worth every penny so far. Amazing video!

And if it fails, we'll have to wait to get more powerful tools and more knowledge, someone will come and give it another try, that's how we evolved as a species : try, fail, research then repeat until we success in our goals
