Sanji's character is so well written. He wasn't rude and understood Apis because he was the same when he was a kid, back when he was cooking for his mother.
On the surface you'd think Sanji would be upset, but then you realize that one of sanji's main characteristics is that he's really kind. He also appriciates a meal because of what he went through with Zeff, even if it's barely edible he'll sit down and eat it because he doesn't dare waste food.
Sanji doesn't tolerate anyone wasting food. He even tells everyone to not waste food. And there's Luffy, gobbling it up without question and loving it. It's no wonder that Sanji is ready to die for him.
in all honesty sanji hates children. this arc was non canon but if it was then connecting the dots from big mom arc we could maybe understand that he kinda saw himself in what she did to the crew. he cooked for his mom altho the food he made was awful back then

Luffy received the Spartan training as a kid and didn't even blink when Dadan scared him that she won't feed him and said he would eat things from the forest. This is nothing compared to that 😂
this filler arc was such a good watch. when they found out where lost island was, i think i actually teared up. doesn't help that "to the grand line" is such a good song aswell.
Sanji was so sweet. Rather, not a single one of them on that ship scolded Apis. Even filler episodes in OP capture the individuality of each crew member well. Forever my favorite team. 🥰
Apis was a good character indeed, even deserving an appearance in the main story I think. I'm not sure if Oda was involved in creating this character, but the ability of talking to a mythical dragon (edit: to ANY animal) even reminds me of Chopper, or Shirahoshi qua Poseidon for that matter. Could have been a very important character.
It's nothing to do with being nice or not, he liked it Luffy is the type that if he didn't like it he would say it and then receive a punch from Nami and Sanji
Sanji, ship's cook, not happy that his kitchen suffered an explosion or that the food is actually terrible... But is *not* gonna yell, berate or criticize the kid who has simple pure intensions, just not the skill, when making a meal for everyone. Just keeps encouraging her to continue trying but affirms to let the adults (aka him) do the cooking for the big meals, and *still* makes everyone eat what she made for them. That's how you encourage a kid to cook.
As a cook going onto 10 years myself I know what this is like. Accidental ingredient or a little too long in the oven. Its always best to inspire and help younger cooks. Who knows they may have a dream of being the worlds best chef or their own kitchen. So please never waste. We do work hard on the food.
Everyone in that room will be a good parent if ever. Whoever wrote these filler episodes pre-timeskip understands the characters very well. I can’t tell with the newest ones because I haven’t watched them yet.
Except that time they were going to Whole Cake Island, he made a similar disaster of a meal and he couldn’t eat it. I guess eating Sanji’s food increased his own standards to the point that low quality foods no longer appease him.
The way sanji politely pointed out her mistakes instead of faking the compliments. He has the purest heart♡
