Hello, my name is Jon Michael, and I’m a professional pianist from Birmingham, AL. If you haven’t noticed, I am a little person, standing only 3’8” tall. It's been 3 months I try to reproduce this medley. It's OK for the first but from Moana I can not reproduce the rhythm. It's been 2 years since I started the piano and I need to learn some technics. How did you manage? Do you have some advices or a video to learn this technics?
bought that from musicnotes before the 5th song! Once I am out of this contraption from ganglion cyst removal today, I will be working on this. just a beautiful medley and thanks for adding it to musicnotes!

Absolutely spectacular, Jon. If you don’t mind, I had a question about your headphones you often wear during recordings. Are you listening to your piano, a click track, or a version of the song that you’re improvising off of? My wife and I are big fans, and we love the new content! Listening to “Have yourself a merry little Christmas” at the moment!!
Hey Jeff! For the majority of my recordings, I am just sitting at the piano arranging real-time, without the use of headphones. For only time that I use headphones is when there is a vocalist, and I do play with a click track to that, which is extremely helpful for the videographer for editing. My newest album features three tracks that were fully orchestrated around me, and so I also used a click track to record those, to make things easier on the arranger. Great question!!

What is the secret to playing the way you do? how does one approach the piano in such a way that the music just flows out so effortlessly? is it years of practice? and if so, what did you practice? chords? chord progressions? what would you recommend someone who's been playing several years, but nowhere near your skill? did you learn these songs from reading the sheet music at one time, or did you just listen to it on the radio and somehow figure it out?
Honestly, I’d say it’s 90% my God-given ability to hear a song, and then play it. The other 10% would be practiced techniques. You can listen to my Sight of Sound mini-doc to learn more about that.
